For 4K monitors you'll want 60Hz for the very best resolution. Docks that are missing this and that will show up in the near future.
I.M.O.
1) Be patient......... MUCH Better docks to come........
2) Go direct from USB-C to whatever you want. You'll be able to use that cable with a whatever dock suits "your needs" later.

Nope, that's it. Unfortunately that's the state of USB-C today. There is no perfect accessory. But this is as good as it currently gets. And it basically works as advertised.
That was my suspicion... I'm working on a website that gives a selection of USB-C stuff where the idea is that you get an extremely limited choice. But that selection is solid. Thing is, I haven't been able to find any hub or dock that reviews or tests describe as good enough, let alone flawless.... I've simply left the category empty!

I think there are multiple causes. First and obvious, no manufacturer has been able to test with the 2016 MBP. Also, they want at least the 20V@3A (60 watt), which is still kinda rare. Then there are some manufacturers who have nonstandard USB-C ports (like HP Spectre). Thirdly there are the oddities of USB-C accessories which support HDMI 1.4 just as 4K monitors get affordable.

It's a weird situation. I'm really glad that Apple tries to help things along with the discounted adapters and cables. But then it's stunning to me that that AV adapter gets such reviews...

Reading those reviews, it doesn't work as advertised for a lot of people.

I ordered this hub today - Juiced Systems BizHUB USB-C Multiport Gigabit HDMI Hub. I was mainly looking for something that had ethernet, USB and a card reader built in. If it works I'll return the card reader I bought at the Apple Store. Anyone try this hub out? It doesn't have many reviews on Amazon, but since I had a $20 coupon code to use before 12/3 I thought I'd give it a shot.

Which MacBook are you using that with? And do you intend to use it for power delivery to your MacBook? The Q&A indicates it can only pass 49W of power, which is insufficient for the 15" MBP and sub-optimal for the 13". Of course, you don't need it to deliver power unless you have the 12" MacBook.

I will be using it with the 15" nMBP and no I don't expect this to do power delivery. I'm just trying to consolidate the dongles needed when the new machine gets here and I realized that I also needed an ethernet adapter so I decided to jump on this and see if it does the trick.

This is my collection at this point... SMH

Is there a USB C Hub with VGA port out there, that doesn't make the display (television/beamer) flicker/shimmer?

So far, I tried a hub by AuKey and one by BCMaster -- both don't work :(

Just got my usb-c dock from caldigit, does not seem to be capable to drive any external monitor I try (HDMI or displayport). My mac just freezes when I connect it.

Using a base Macbook Pro 15" TB 2016. Anyone here has experienced the same issues with this setup?

When I disable automatic video choice in power settings, it doesn't freeze, but also doesn't work yet.

Hey guys! I'm looking for a USB-C to multiple USB 3.0 dongle. What are the best options? I'm getting the LG 27UD88-W display so I don't need usb-c charging or HDMI

Nice, that -W stands for White, right? Really curious how it'll turn out. The product shots look very, very nice.

Hey guys! I'm looking for a USB-C to multiple USB 3.0 dongle.
Basically you can use any USB 3.0 hub which has a USB-C cable to the computer.

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Devices-Including-ChromeBook-Aluminum/dp/B00XU6IMWY/

Not needing Power Delivery means a much cheaper and much more tested dock, because it's basically "old" USB 3.0 tech with a USB-C connector.

Does anyone have any experience with iKits USB-C products?

I've been using the 60W Anker PowerPort 5+ (below) for the last year but am getting a MacBook Pro shortly so need a charger with more juice:

This one seems to meet the criteria perfectly. Does anyone have any experience with iKits? The lack of reviews is concerning (though the US site has a few good reviews) and I'd rather not fry a brand new Mac...

:)
I have had the Anker 60W power port for a while as well . I have ordered the 13 inch MacBook Pro but I will not get it until mid December at least.
Could you let me know when you get your MacBook if the Anker port will charge it, and say, an iPad as well?
I was looking at the ikits one on Amazon too. If the Anker will not do the job, I will send for the ikits before I get my MacBook.
Thank you in anticipation.

Yep, the Anker charges a MacBook Pro at 45W and an iPad at 12W at the same time with a few watts spare.

I believe 45W comes from 20V 2.25A, which is interesting because this is not a listed output on the Anker charger. But it works!

Agree with the above - this is a mess right now. I have read all of these threads and there just isn't a great solution right now. I think I will just buy some Apple cables and their HDMI adapter and live with a mess on my desk until something that actually works properly with a 15" MBP comes out.

And I did just this. Picked up the Apple USB C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, an Ethernet to USB C and a couple of Apple USB C converter cables. I'll wait until a dock comes out that powers a 15" and there is some feedback that they work.

Anybody knows of a 2 meters USB C (3.1) cable ?
Just received my MBP 13 and an LG 27 UD88 (4K 27"), the display works fine with the provided cable (1m), but not with a TB3 2m belkin cable, pparently the display works on USB and not TB3 ...
And I cannot find a 2m USB-C cable, all the existing ones being USB 2 apparently.

Thanks a lot for the links, the thing is, I'm not sure USB 3.1 gen 1 (and not 2) is sufficient for the display.
I might just go with HDMI once I get a proper hob/docking station. Plus like that I would not impair the USB ports speed on the display that would be driven by the USB C (not sure about this one).

Aha, I read over the fact that you're using the cable to hook up the LG 27UD88. In that case, it's simple; when you hook up the display via a single USB-C cable, the USB 3 ports will drop to USB 2 speeds -- like you said.

I'm not sure if the LG supports it, but perhaps you could use that Plugable cable for the 3.0 ports on the monitor, and for charging the laptop. And then use a separate USB-C-to-HDMI cable for the graphics. But I don't know if that'll work.

Heyz,

Please help me out...

I don't know too much about which brands I can trust to use with my new macbook pro.
I've heard that you should watch out because using the wrong dongle/hub could dammage your macbook.

I've been looking around for weeks now and I can't decide.
I would like to have 2 normal usb ports and an hdmi port, an sd card reader would be a nice bonus.
I ended up thinking about buying the hootoo shuttle usb-c hub, but now I had a look on the german amazon and they no longer sell the space gray one, only rose gold :(

I had a look on the american amazon but the price seems much higher (find it a bit too high) and I've heard you also might have to pay import taxes.

Can't find many other places where I could buy a good hub that I trust.

I also wouldn't mind buying separate dongles if the price is good but I'm just not sure which ones I should trust...

Please help!?

What did you guys buy?
