I just bought a generic hub and it was terrible, the thing is so hot I don't even dare to plugging it, I'm sending it back.

What hub do you guys happy with ? I'm looking for charging / USB-A / HDMI (Ethernet /SD card would be nice but I can live without it).

Bought this one for a couple of weeks ago together with an usb-c (male-female) extension cable (so I can have the hub out of the way).
Very pleased. The hub doesn't get warm. 4 usb3 ports, HDMI (4K, tried only 1080P) and power delivery.
Not expensive compared to others. About $23.

If i have a USB-C to USB-A cable and a usb3.0 hub that has a USB-A in, should that work?

You have a USB hub that uses type A connector as the primary input? Which one is that? I would expect a USB (2 or 3) hub to use a type B or mini/micro B connector for the primary connection and then type A for peripherals. But in the case where it is type A in and multiple type A "outs" then I don't see why that wouldn't work.

I ordered this hub today - Juiced Systems BizHUB USB-C Multiport Gigabit HDMI Hub. I was mainly looking for something that had ethernet, USB and a card reader built in. If it works I'll return the card reader I bought at the Apple Store. Anyone try this hub out? It doesn't have many reviews on Amazon, but since I had a $20 coupon code to use before 12/3 I thought I'd give it a shot.

I bought two of these since I needed to connect my pre-Thunderbolt Apple LED and Cinema displays that use Mini DisplayPort and they only have one Mini DisplayPort / Thunderbolt port but like all the other adapters I've tried, it doesn't work. I've tried power cycling and anything else I could think of.

I've had my new MacBook Pro for 1 week now, but I'm unable to use it productively to do work since I can't connect my external Apple Displays. Now, I'm waiting for the LG Ultrafine 5k monitors to be available, other than that, this new computer is collecting dust and I'm just using my 2015 rMBP until then...

That's only HDMI though (incidentally, for 4K only @ 30Hz). You need a dock with mDP for the 27" Apple Cinema Display (not Apple Thunderbolt Display: for that you just use Apple's Tbolt 3-to-Tbolt 2 adaptor).

But agree, mDP and DP adaptors seem to be highly missing in quality options... Apple don't even offer one, while offering ones for Tbolt 1/2, old DVI, and even older VGA (for projectors, no doubt). They seem to have directly ignored mDP users entirely, which seems rather silly and is certainly highly annoying.

AFAIUI, mDP/DP has something to do with Tbolt 3 on Apple's new MBP's not being directly supported, due to the dual-DP 1.2 protocol being needed to be applied for LG 5K's to work.... or similar.

The sad part is I'm ready to buy two LG 5k monitors for $974 each but they're unavailable. They were available briefly for an hour or two on 11/28, but not since then...

Anyone have any UK/Euro recommendations for the best hub with -

+ Preferably 2 or more USB
+ Ethernet

For use with a 15" TB MacBook Pro.

I've had a look through the thread but can't seem to find anything that matches and is available in the UK. Also slightly concerned about frying the MacBook Pro with all the random incorrect USB-C spec devices...

Without reading through 31 pages, could anyone recommend a HDMI adapter to connect my 13" 2016 MacBook Pro to my Sony Bravia 48" HD TV?

Preferably not too expensive. :)

I need a cheap but reliable USB wall charger for my 12" Macbook. What's the min. watts I should be looking for on a charger. (I know it draws 29w)
I am just intending to keep my Macbook topped off at the library using a usb to usb-c cable.

Since the battery is 41.41wH, and Apple states battery life of up to 10 hours, that laptop draws ~4W on average. To catch peak usage, I'd say 15W is enough to keep it topped up.

Don't simply go for cheap. The USB-C situation is such that you could damage your laptop from a cheap but faulty charger. The following list contains well-tested chargers:

This one seems to be the cheapest but still tested as good:

Appreciate the response. Very useful information. I just ran into this from Anker, but no reviews:

Its not cheap but I recently received a multi-port adaptor from Satechi:
http://www.satechi.net/index.php/computer/connectivity/hubs/satechi-type-c-hub-with-pass-through-for-charging-ethernet-port-4k-hdmi-output-sd-micro-card-reader-3-usb-3-0-ports-silver-586
It has both SD and micro-SD card readers. I keep a 32GB micro-SD card installed as a small external drive.
But ...the website says it is out-of-stock at present.

Let's make this!

I'm about to receive my 2016 MacBook Pro 15. I've had Mac laptops for 12 years and even introduced them to my work where we now have almost 30% using them.

Naturally, over the past few years, I've accumulated a lot of Magsafe and Magsafe 2 chargers. I've become spoiled having one at my desk, one in my travel bag, one downstairs at home and one upstairs in my room. I'm sure there are many, many of you in the same position.

I've searched high and low, and no one makes a competing 87w charger for less than Apple, but that's a boatload to spend, particularly since the new apple bricks DO NOT come with the USB C cable. Even worse, the C cable apple sells are USB 2 data speed.

I'd like to compile here all the different charging watt bricks you can use to SAFELY charge your MacBook Pro and an idea of how long it will take to charge. Obviously the computer would need to be in sleep state if you're charging with less than 87w. I'm not familiar enough with batteries and energy transmission to know the ins and outs, I'm sure there are a few experts here that can help and know the quirks we'll encounter.

Also, please note I'll be using correct cables (USB C 3 3.1 spec 100w capable) just so that the cable can float from high watt brick to low watt brick with no issues. Monoprice seems to have the best deal on these.

I read 80% of the pages on that, and it's all about docks, dongles, cases. If no one is interested in a thread about charging the new 87w USB C MacBook Pros then the admin can close it.

I'm with you... I'd rather not dig through a huge thread about lots of other topics/products. I've come here looking for the same thing as you.

For what it's worth:

1. I've been in touch with Anker as I've used a number of their multi-chargers in past. They don't currently make an 87w charger and won't share any plans on that subject, but they have confirmed that both the existing 29w chargers and 60w chargers (the latter is US only) will charge the new MacBook Pro, albeit slower.

2. Yesterday I tested using Apple's own 29W (for the 12" MacBook) with my 2016 MacBook Pro... as per the above, it did appear to slowly charge. I haven't yet tested this scenario, but I suspect as long as you plug in the MBP before it's flat it will continue to operate whilst charging from a 29W (or higher) charger.

If anyone else finds a higher power charger that also has a few spare USB ports I'd love to hear about it as well.

Thank you! I'm very familiar with Anker, so they confirmed to you that their multi-port chargers will charge the 15 MBP? I was under the impression their ports divided the wattage whether devices were connected or not. Or are you saying they confirmed Apple's chargers would work?

My goal is to be able to travel (whether from home to office or office to cross country) with as few bricks and cables as necessary.
