Yeah. I used Finder to sync some of the bought movies in the iTS store. After that issues started. Deleted the files manually from the TV app, deleted the TV App and everything was fine for 2 hours. Reinstalled the TV app and everything is still fine. No weird systemmemory-things.

I believe there's an issue with the TV app (and maybe other) hence you don't have the option to turn on/off downloads from the iTS store regarding movies. I believe my manual sync on the Mac with selected movies, triggered some deep based elements to an effort downloading al my TV content.

Currently I'm still at 4,7 GB system memory after installing TV app (but no sync with Mac for video).

Update 2; after almost 3 hours after, system memory is still, only, at 4+ GBs. Reinstalled the TV App an hour ago. Seems to be my solution?
Genius, with my i14 and a few hours after "deleted the synced movies in the TV app and deleted the TV App" - result no system data back fill fiasco. (I was a power restart with 48GB out of 128GB and within hours pushing towards oblivion/max out. That will teach me, break my own rule to go early on new release of hardware. Big thanks couldvebeenyou and all those that put the time to post here.

I have this problem since day 1. Restoring the backup on my iPhone 14 pro max was very annoying, because I ran out of storage during the process and apps did not install. After that all the storage was used for system data, until I deleted the TV app und rebooted the iPhone. I am so disappointed, that I have to endure this issue, although paying 1579€ for a brand new phone 🤦🏻‍♂️ Software quality on new phone releases is not the same anymore. I ran iOS 16 beta on a iPhone 13 pro and had zero issues til the official release. It’s like they did not test it hard enough on the new iPhones.

Yep all this is a joke… mine is growing steadily and slowly. I am now at 26gb of system data… not huge compared to some of you but I have the feeling it is going up a bit everyday. Also I called the « genius » asking why I had like 7gb of photos on my iPhone knowing I have all my photos synced to iCloud. He told me that I should do a manual installation and not the automatic one (the one where you approach your old iPhone to the new one). Well I did it. And it is still the same thing. Where the f are coming those 7gb of photos from ?!
I was at 70gb before yesterday, 74gb yesterday and at 77gb today… I deinstalled the ATV app but did not play the trick. Note that I have no Mac. So nothing synched to a laptop or whatsoever…

It’s extremely frustrating.

Did you ever delete top conversations? If so, did the iCloud messages backup size change?

I noticed my photos size changed after deleting top conversations, I believe the photos were from the actual conversations.

Did not try as I am unclear whether or not I am loosing all these iMessages after deleting them from top conversations. Do you know?

Hello guys. Unfortunately I am having same issue with my brand new 14 pro. Opened a case on Apple. They are working on it. 512gb version here. It happens only when wifi is active. As you all pointed out with a restart it gets cleared. Whole 512gb gets full in hours. Wow. Waiting for a fix.

If photos are the biggest issue for you, go to your settings and see what the iCloud photo settings are set to.

Instructions here: https://iphonephotographyschool.com/download-photos-from-icloud/

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your phone is set to keep all of the original resolution photos.

Thanks for the note. I think I know the photo settings as my pocket now. Went through this several times with Apple. To your point no I am set on the « optimize storage… ». Well this is a mystery. Apple advisors are less and less experts I believe… But in all honesty all this does not prevent me from using my iPhone. It is not slowing It down. I am just being curious why it does not act as it should… The geek side of me.

Then I really have no idea what’s going on.

I picked up my 1TB 14 Pro Max a couple hours ago, but it’s sitting idle at the moment because I bought a full-body skin and I’m waiting for it to dry overnight. It will be absolutely ridiculous if I get 800GB of system data.

😅 that would sure be… I wish it’ll be fine for you though. I remember having that same issue 2 years ago with my 12 PM. Not sure what I did to solve this. I remember restoring it a few times to succeed I believe. But I am tired of restoring…. Again if it stays around 25gb system data it is fine for now even though abnormal. It is more an issue for those seeing their iPhone packed with system data. Some workarounds worked for some did not for others. This has been an issue for years. I doubt Apple really cares and only recommends to restore…

How many gb did you have before and after?
I have 512 gb device. My 158 gb total mine. And it gets full in hours when ever I connected to wifi. No issue on Sim mode. Yet I read here somebody deleted tv app. It was full. I deleted tv app. Still was full I restarted phone. 0 kbs it was saying. After a while still was same. I have also an android phone. I will check back the 14 pro soon and will tell you if it is still same.

By the way, does anyone know how to force the Apple TV App to activate the damn notifications in the list of apps that access this functionality?

I say this because I had to uninstall it to correct the bug that caused the storage to be filled with system data, and when reinstalling the app the pop-up window does not appear again nor is there any option to force it manually or within the app itself. It is frustrating to have so little control of the apps in such simple things and that everything is automated (and then does not work)

Congrats! Did you have downloaded movies on your iPhone. Or was your TV app/iCloud synched with a Mac?
Hi,

The thing is, i also have 13 pro max. I always clone phone to phone you k ow apples own thing. Put both phones side by side. And move 13 pro max to new 14 pro. 13 pro max tv app is empty. No movies were downloaded. I checked 13 pro max, all options are same as 14 pro. Why this happens? No idea. I don't use iTunes for years now. Don't know if sync is on or off. But what ever option it is set, it should be same on 13 pro max too, not?

In addition my battery life got better. Phone was keep downloading GBs of data on wifi anyway in background. Such waste.

Edit : Sorry for bad English.

So guys another user with the same issue :( I tried a lot of the things suggested here but to no avail :( I contacted apple and the 1st suggestion was to wipe the phone and then to restore from an iCloud backup. I did this but still the same. I then rang back and they said to do the same thing but connected to computer. They said this would download the software for the phone before the restore. They really wanted me to start ‘fresh’ with no apps being restored but I really didn’t want to do that. I completed the wipe and restore from the iCloud but the system data is building again. I don’t think doing it fresh will make any difference based on others here. It feels like it has to be with the phone as I passed my old 11pro max to my wife and hers restored no issue. Then her phone went to her mum and again no issue with system data. All phones are running iOS 16.0.2 so must be a phone thing

This is an interesting remark. I am having the same kind of experience as I speak. Look… I had 2 iPhones. A 12 mini for work and my 12PM. I bought the 14PM and put the physical sim of my mini in it and activated the eSim for my personal usage. I wiped my 12PM and gave it to my wife. I now have my 14PM with 2 lines and linked to my iCloud account and my 12 mini still not wiped but I turned it off a weeks ago. I believe this is when my system data started to increase.
This morning I turned back on my 12 mini linked to the same iCloud account than my 14PM. The mini is on wifi (as it has no more sim) and charging. Suddenly my 14PM system data started to decrease. From 25gb down to 22gb then 20gb and now 17gb. I turned on the 12mini about 5 hours ago. Pics below yesterday and now 5 hours after turning the mini on? Coincidence? I am planning to wipe my mini.
Thoughts?
