This is the first year I've traded in a phone when buying a new one. I got $550 for my 11 Pro Max. So I go to T-Mobile's website yesterday and login to my account and see that it says I still owe the full amount. I questioned why and they said it's in your contract. I said what does this mean...it should say I owe $550 and with my $18 payments for 30 months due to the trade-in. So I asked how much to pay the phone off. They said the full price. I said why is this? I traded you an 11 Pro Max to get $550 off the phone so if I want to pay it off I should only have to pay the other half. I told her thank you and I'd just go into a store and talk to them.

Can someone who's done the trade-in before please explain this to me if my thinking is wrong. If someone trades in a phone to get half off and wants to pay off the EIP shortly thereafter should't they only owe the $550?

Read the details of the trade in offer. You get that amount in monthly credits over the course of a specified number of months.

Yeah I get that now. If just ticks me off that if I want to pay off my phone right now I have to pay the full amount of the device and I forfeit my trade in. In the past I would just get a new phone and sell my old device. I didn't do it this year and regret in now.

Yeah, kinda stinks because you're tied down with them but I guess it's a fair trade off when they give you more for your trade in. Win some, lose some.
