Taylor Swift Named Apple Music's Artist of the Year

I use Apple Music to play whatever song just wriggled its way into my consciousness. Really dig that I can play almost any piece of recorded music at a whim.

Yesterday, “Ride Captain Ride” came into my head so I played it. Same with “Green Eyed Lady”, “Magic Carpet Ride”, and “Peaches” in different days. Heck, I think it’s time to play “Low Rider” and maybe “Earache My Eye” now.

Yes it is good for that. Problem is when I'm not certain what I want to listen to. It never really seemed to care what I liked. It just played the same few songs, and the suggested playlists were almost entirely not up my alley.

That, or it would go totally overboard because someone listened to a few 80s songs in a row, for example.

Yeah I haven’t used their radio stations but have scrolled through some of their “best of decade X” playlists for good memories and song ideas.

Per a quick Google, this is the first time Swift has received this award, which is now in its fifth year. Billie Eilish was Apple Music’s Artist of the Year for 2019, followed by Lil Baby (2020), The Weeknd (2021) and Bad Bunny (2022). I can honestly say I never heard of the latter three, and probably never will again.

I agree with the sentiment that she has to be the most average singer/dancer to reach this level of stardom, but hey, go ahead I guess. Personally, I would have given this to Beyoncé - but lord knows the people would be at their wits end with that. 🙄

The CONCEPT dates back quite awhile I said, obviously Apple Music wasn't handing out this award before Apple Music existed.

She doesn’t get any more hate than anyone else of her ilk, but honestly her fanbase is full of Jonestown-level acolytes so any mockery you see of her that feels undue is probably a kneejerk response to that
