You have to forward port 5010 to your computer in your router. Each router is different but all of them have this option.

I suggest you check your instruction manual. Statically IP your addy, and forward that port to your comp.

iphone remote app has to be running, then under the app menu make sure the server is running (stop/start remote). then in sys prefs go to network and look up your ip address on your local network 10.0.1.xxx or 192...xxx etc... with this number in mind open up your airport admin, or router control panel and navigate to port forwarding/mapping, on some 3rd party routers its listed under gaming/applications/advanced. you'll then hit add at which point you'll be prompted for external port which should be 5010 and 5012 you can separate them with a comma or add them separately (one listing for 5010 and another for 5012, the 2nd bit of info it wants is the local ip of th machine your on (or are running iphone remote on) which will be the ip address that showed up in your network settings in the sys prefs, and lastly is the port address on the local machine, which should stay the same as the external port #. also make sure your firewall in sys prefs is either off or has the 5010 and 5012 ports open. from there you then go to a site like http://whatismyip.org and then enter that address plus :)5010/) to the ip it gives you, that is your external ip, and by adding the 5010 it tells the router to forward that to the machine you set up in your router admin. from there it should prompt you for a user/pass it it works right. FYI this is the exact same process for creating a web server that is accessable to the world at large or ftp or any other service (you just change the port numbers for whichever service you want to run where)

for the record i've got mine working via edge and wifi over the external IP. i wish it were possible to close apps once you open them and or play quicktime movies that don't auto play. otherwise i could lay in bed and watch all my shows and not even need my bt mouse.

I just installed the update and the home screen where the icons are supposed to be is plain white. The buttons are there and can be pressed, they just can't be seen. Once you get to another screen, everything shows up normally. Anyone else having this problem?

It's under one those it's a tab labeled "port mapping" or "port something" inside there you'll probably see a mostly blank page as you wont have any settings in there yet. I'd post a screen shot but i'm away from the computer at the moment

Thanks so much for typing that out--I really appreciate the time you put into it. I think I have everything correct except for one step:

I go to my Airport Admin Utility and to "Port Mapping" and then click add. It gives me three options:

Public Port:
Private Address 10.0.1.:
Private Port:

I type 5010 under "Public Port" (Public Port: 5010)

I add a 3 (my IP address under network settings) onto "Private Address" (Private Address 10.0.1.3)

"Private Port" is the one I'm confused about. You say:

lastly is the port address on the local machine, which should stay the same as the external port #

I'm confused as to where to find my "port address on the local machine."

Have I messed up a step before that or is that all I am missing?

Thanks again!

is there away i can point to my storage raid setup instead of my boot hd?
i have the os intalled on a raptor 150gb but i have a 2tb raid setup where i store all my music, videos etc.

When i use telekenisis it points to my macintosh hd and i dont see my storage hd...is there away to change the folders to point over to my raid instead of to my boot hd?

here i have 5 options on airport extreme N.

if your ISP(cable or DSL) assigns your IP address dynamically, or if you have a static IP address and jsut want something easier to remember than a string of digits, try something like http://www.no-ip.com.

you register an account with them(they have a fully-funcitonal free version), choose a subdomain like yourcustomname.no-ip.com, run their program, which monitors the IP address that your ISP assigns to you, then updates your account/subdomain with your most current IP address, and assuming you have your port forwarding/firewall/router issues sorted out, bang! you can log into your your computer via your iphone form anywhere you can get onto the net.

i've got a wireless G router at home, with a macbook pro connecting to it, and i've logged into it with my iphone from barnes and noble, via EDGE and WiFi, from 20 miles away. only thing i've done is snap pictures of my cat using it, but that's not the point, now is it. it works really well.

I finally tried this out today and I have to say that this is absolutely amazing. I can read PDF eBooks over the internet right from my hard drive at home, while I'm listening to music! The best part about it is that you can rotate it to landscape to have a better view of the PDF (something that mail on the iPhone lacks.)

This is great and I can't wait to see where development takes this app.

Crap I forgot my damn login information.... hmmm

When I ever hit login the screen shrinks past the keyboard and then pops back up and is blank... Am I doing something wrong?

When I first typed in the address and port number in the iPhone it said something about scripts not working and if I wanted to continue.

3 things I would love to see with this.

1) Be able to control PPT
2) Be able to control Slingbox/Sling Player
3) Be able to control Front Row

I agree, SlingPlayer support would be awesome. I think we'll see this app expanded a ton over the next few months.

This is good enough even in its alpha state to constitute a whole new iPhone feature. If you just leave the program running on your computer and forward the port, then wherever you are you can use it to play music or videos. I had The Big Lebowski in iPod format on my computer and synced it to the phone, but it wouldn't play for some reason. Now I'm connecting over wifi with this and streaming it and it's playing beautifully.

You are getting entire movies to stream on to your iPHONE? They must be extremely small files. I can't get anything short of a music video or mp3 file to download.

Maybe my settings are screwed up somewhere. :(

i made it work, this is really nice...

its simple guys.. i was for 2 days trying.. just put the 10.0.1.x:5010
will work.
