I have a few questions:
1) Is the Alpine Ridge superior to the Titan Ridge for a Mac Pro 5,1?
2) Can you use the same firmware DSM2 posted for the Titan on an Alpine Ridge?
3) Many people are reporting panics with Titan Ridge.

3a) I have a friend who plugs in a TB1 external drive enclosure and it crashes whether he starts his cMP with it already attached or if he tries to hot plug. It works without issue on his Mac Mini, so it's not his enclosure.
3b) He also has a TB2 drive that works great.
3c) I have another friend who has two Apollo devices. One is TB1 and the other is TB2. The TB2 seems fine, but the TB1 device crashes when booting macOS and also after he successfully boots to macOS it crashes if he tries to unplug it.

4) Has anyone tried this on a Hackintosh?
a) I have both a 5,1 and a Hackintosh, but unfortunately don't have many Thunderbolt devices to test with. I'd like to isolate if this a Mac Pro issue or the firmware, OpenCore, or Tb.aml. Has anyone already isolated this?

I read that Titan ridge doesn’t work with TB1 devices.

A few people have asked if there is a firmware flash for the alpine ridge but Dsm2 has not replied and he is the one saying that alpine ridge works better on a 5.1 so at present that looks like an unknown path on how to use that. They are also harder to find.

Maybe this one could do the trick ?
Ohh! It seams I got it to work without the USB 2.0 header after all :)

After booting with a USB/HDMI/SD-card reader attached to one of the USB-C ports on the LG UltraFine screen the MacOS System Settings Audio Output tab now shows the LG UltraFine.

Happy days.
Yes I thought it odd that it worked in windows but not OS X. Surely if it was a usb 2 issue it would be in both os’.

I still want usb 2 on my Titan ridge as I want to replace my usb 3 card with it. Just looking for the most elegant solution without using a pcie slot.

Can more people confirm if this is true or not- Titan Ridge will not work with Thunderbolt 1 devices?

So I'm running into a weird issue:

- Flashed the Titan Ridge with DSM2's 2nd (latest?) firmware
- Connected the two pins as described
- Copied "SSDT-TBOLT3.aml" to /Volume/EFI/OC/ACPI/

Then, I rebooted before changing my config.plist (so no entires under ACPI section), and I could see Gigabyte Thunderbolt card under System Information -> Thunderbolt, but attached devices are not seen...

I went ahead and added DSM2's ACPI section in my config.plist (which includes that path to SSDT-TBOLT3.aml) and rebooted - expecting that this will solve the problem - Instead I got "Thunderbolt: No drivers are loaded." in System Info - it didn't even recognize the TB card anymore.... and that's the only change I did!

So I removed this ACPI section and after rebooting I could see Thunderbolt card in System Info, but with same issue: no attached devices get recognized.

What am I missing?

you need the SSDT and the config edit
after first start some devices must replug
then a warmboot and most of the devices will work

I had a similar problem. It turned out that I had to reflash the Blue EEPROM on the card with the firmware. Once that was done, the card appeared and worked.

I re-flashed the card again, but I'm still seeing same issue... could it be a damaged card?

Another thing, my EFI folder and config file include Innie/Lilu/WhateverGreen (to show PCIe SSD as internal and enable AMD h/w acceleration) - not sure if there's a conflict, but I'd appreciate if someone can PM me a working EFI folder with support for Innie, AMD acceleration, and Thunderbolt/SSDT ?

Thanks!

here you go

Thanks Indiox! I really dig the boot icons, really cool! (I had a list of entries before), but unfortunately I still see "Thunderbolt: No drivers are loaded." in System Info (attached).

Any other ideas?

Thanks again...

Yes I copied your EFI (with SSDT and your config) and did 3 warm reboots... I am attaching an Apollo Twin X.

The only thing I’m not 100% certain about is the jumper between the pins, they are the correct ones but it might not have enough contact, i’ll check them and try again...

Thanks!

Maybe due to compatibility issue? Apollo Twin X min requirement is i7 processor. Do you have another TB device to test?

looks like another member is having same issues...

Further testing have shown that in fact it wasn't the attachement of the USB-hub card reader that made the audio output of the screen show up in the system settings. It was the warm reboot. I'm still learning this game ?

It is in slot 4 (top one), and I'm attaching a UA Apollo to it... What you see in the attached PCI photo is that the Mac Pro is not even seeing it. I also have another USB3 card in slot 3 but it's not the TB card (which is in slot 4 but not seen by the system).

Thanks.

And again, when I remove the reference to the SSDT file in config.plist, the card is recognized as a TB card in slot 4 (see attached), but when I add the ACPI section that points to the SSDT file the system does not recognize it at all!!! I checked the connection between the pins and it seems ok... I'm really clueless at this point.

normaly, the titan ridge works in a cMP as USB3.1gen2 card without any modifcation
on card or system under last mojave and with bootROM 144.0.0.0.0

with my EFI and 0.23 firmware on green SPI and the DSM2 flash on blue SPI
i have two cards on different cMP without problems
(cards that shipped the last half year comes with 0.43 firmware! they does not work)

do a 3-times NVRAM reset when the card is in and bless the EFI again
the speed should 40Gb/s with my EFI

Hey people! Thank you for this thread, its been really helpful to read :)

Also hello foojitsu1!

I have a mac 5,1 and im also trying to get the thunderbolt working, it doesnt seem to want to showup in windows. I suspect that since its a recently purchased card from Amazon it may be the version 43 firmware.

Could i perhaps trouble you also for this file? Im willing to order and Eprom device to give it a try. I've had this computer here for almost two months not working :(

Anyways, your help would certainly be appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

Everything you need as far as custom firmware, SSDT, EFI, and necessary instructions are posted on the thread. It's probably best to read through so you get familiar with what exactly needs to be done, but in short:

1. Purchase CH341A programmer and modify for 3.3v (review thread for procedure)
2. flash TR with latest DSM2 custom firmware, blue chip only
3. Install Jumper (pins 1,3) NOTE: Pin1 is the one with the arrow
4. Install OpenCore and add DSM2 SSDT to EFI (@IndioX was kind enough to provide his EFI which is latest rev 0.5.7 and works up to Catalina 10.5.4, should include necessary SSDT)
5. Plug in TB devices, typically 2x boot to initialize but some devices require replug on 1x (ex: my Elgato TB3 dock needs replug on 1x to initialize on 2x boot, Apollo Twin MKI remains plugged in and initializes on 2x)

Good luck. Hope this helps. just post if you run into issues, plenty of support on the forum as many of us have painfully gone through these steps over, and over...

Hello everyone, Im having issues with the Titan Ridge Flashed and a Sonnet 3.2 Allegro Pro pcie card. Two cards don't show correctly, with SSDT-Tbolt3.ami enabled. On my Mac Pro 4.1 flashed to 5.1 with bootrom 144.0.0.0.0

The Titan Ridge is in the 4th slot
Pins 1 & 3 jumped
Opencore is setup correctly with SSDT-TBOLT3.aml enabled
Every thing works fine without the Sonnet card, shows up as thunderbolt device Vender Apple Inc. But with the sonnet card in slot 3 it disables the Titan Ridge. If I place the Titan Ridge in slot 3 it disables the sonnet card this only happens when the SSDT-TBOLT3.aml enabled in opencore.

Thank you!

Please post your config. I think you may have a typo in it.

Check that it looks exactly like this:

<dict>
<key>ACPI</key>

<dict>
<key>Add</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>Comment</key>
<string>TBOLT3</string>
<key>Enabled</key>
<true/>
<key>Path</key>
<string>SSDT-TBOLT3.aml</string>
</dict>

</array>
<key>Block</key>
<array/>
<key>Patch</key>
<array/>
<key>Quirks</key>
<dict>
<key>FadtEnableReset</key>
<false/>
<key>NormalizeHeaders</key>
<false/>
<key>RebaseRegions</key>
<false/>
<key>ResetHwSig</key>
<false/>
<key>ResetLogoStatus</key>
<false/>
</dict>
</dict>
