Every time someone says Pin 5, they actually mean Pin 1. Look at the pictures of the Thunderbolt header in motherboard manuals such as the Asus Z97-DELUXE or GA-Z170X-Gaming 5. Then look at the add-in card header cable.

The photo above ( #1,040 ) shows the add-in card's male header with a jumper between pin 1 and pin 3. The diagram below shows the male headers and female cable connectors and the jumper on the add-in card's male header.
Code:

Anyway, the reason jumping pin 3 to Force Power works is because pin 3 in the GC-TITAN RIDGE has 3.34V compared to ground which is enough to do Force Power (jumping pin 1 to pin 4 would also work). This doesn't work with all add-in cards. Pin 3 on a GC-ALPINE RIDGE only has 0.6V. This is why I use pull up resistors to SATA 3.3V power for both GC-TITAN RIDGE and GC-ALPINE RIDGE (I also pull up pin 3 and pin 4).

Thanks, I changed my post to the correct numbering.

I think 8.2kΩ because that's what most motherboard schematics show.
Thanks for validating. I want to try your method to ensure proper 3.3v signal is applied. I measured my voltage and it was 2.93v (approx) and sometimes have issues with 2x boot to establish connection. Maybe this will help.

Yup. Same exact thing here. What's worse is that I bought a new GPU just to install Mojave which I was installing specifically to run LUNA. Hopefully someone finds a solution. I've been searching since last night and so far, this forum is the only place I've seen it mentioned. I don't even want to post about it on the UAD forum or call customer support because the second you say "Mac Pro 5,1 with TB3" all you get is "Ohhhh... Yeaaaa... I don't know ANYTHING about that."

I wasn’t expecting Luna to work tbh. If dsm2 or someone else brilliant manages to update the TR firmware so that our Universal audio gear (and anything else that requires drivers) to work on cold boot, we might have more of a chance. I might try Luna on my MacBook Pro but I’m not expecting to do anything that logic can’t.

@foojitsu1 Thunderbolt will never work OOB just with an AIC Thunderbolt Card build in an MacPro4.1/5.1.
The minimum requirement is OpenCore for injection of the Custom Thunderbolt-SSDT (necessary for cold boot and hot plug function) and of course the bridge of Pin 1/3.
The test was done with an original Alpine Ridge Firmware... Possible that the NVM Version also plays a role in it. At the moment I tried it with NVM18.

@IndioX
At the moment nothing special besides of the fact that a Alpine Ridge seems to be the better solution for a MacPro4.1/5.1.
More Debugging and more testing is necessary... but it seems that the problem on some rigs is the initialization process,
which the Titan Ridge Card handles completely different then it goes with an Alpine Ridge...

Thanks very much for your info. Do you think you’ll be doing any of this testing as you seem to be the person who has the best knowledge of this experimental journey that we are all on. Hope your feeling fully recovered now... cheers from a sunny locked down city in the uk!!

This would be an interesting development and worth testing for devices that need 2x boot... thanks.

Yeah, cold boot for some things but Apollo UAD needs 2 boot, Luna don’t work if don’t have Thunderbolt on motherboard, I think because the driver for UAD are s...t

Did you try Luna ?
Yes very very time.. on Mac Pro 5.1 with TR pin bridge and OC with tb aml... don’t go... I try with new installation Mac empty original gpu. When install LUNA on MacBook Pro 2012 that had TB1 on mb LUNA installed also without audio card.... in Mac Pro 5.1 not install .. crash.. also with empty computer.. this is why for me LUNA works only on a computer with TB on mother board...

UAD is a no-brainer... The problem is the initialization on the macpro5.1. The drivers are rock solid and not the problem here...

My UAD connects perfectly on the first boot (coldboot) without any issues on my hackintosh (no matter Alpine Ridge/Titan Ridge) and also with on the macpro5. 1 with Alpine Ridge!!!

But I use the old Apollo mk1 for testing.
Will try to get one of the new revisions.

The baddest drivers out there are antelope and slate digital... Total nightmare.

How to do to install a Alpine Ridge on macpro 5.1? And what revision 1.0 or 2.0? I installed Titan Ridge now with your fW, bridge pin and opencore with Tb.aml file.

I would be happy to get an alpine ridge for testing with uad but I too have the silver apollo with thunderbolt 2 add on.

Is the firmware the same as the one used for the Titan ridge?

thanks kindly

So what type of setup (card and firmware) would you choose if you were running a 5,1 with UAD Apollo, satellites, Protools and possibly Luna? And how would you approach running Luna on those current setups?

So I finally got my LG UltraFine thunderbolt screen today and was of cause anxious to plug it into the Titan Ridge card of my cMP 5.1
I attached both of the two displayport patch cables from the Radeon RX 580 outputs to the inputs on the Titan Ridge and attached the screen to the TB3 port using the cable delivered with the screen. And lo and behold the screen turns on and shows my Mojave desktop after booting. Very nice indeed, but alas one detail is missing: there is no sound coming from the speakers in the screen. And I don't see the thunderbolt connection to the screen as an audio output option anywhere in the MacOS. If I boot into Windows 10 there is audio coming from the speakers in the screen.
Any suggestions as to how this can be fixed will be most welcome

Probably due to the USB 2.0 header. Try hooking that up to the Mac Pro (you'll need an adapter).

Adaptor? You wouldn't happen to know where to find that, maybe even have a link for it?
I’m looking into this too. Might even get an adapter to plug usb from the rear of the Mac, back into the Titan ridge. I’m not keen on soldering anything to the logic board.

Something like this if I can find one or I might make one using the original cable that came with the Titan.

You could also tap into the mini-USB Bluetooth header to keep all the cables inside- I've been meaning to try this.

I have a few questions:
1) Is the Alpine Ridge superior to the Titan Ridge for a Mac Pro 5,1?
2) Can you use the same firmware DSM2 posted for the Titan on an Alpine Ridge?
3) Many people are reporting panics with Titan Ridge.

3a) I have a friend who plugs in a TB1 external drive enclosure and it crashes whether he starts his cMP with it already attached or if he tries to hot plug. It works without issue on his Mac Mini, so it's not his enclosure.
3b) He also has a TB2 drive that works great.
3c) I have another friend who has two Apollo devices. One is TB1 and the other is TB2. The TB2 seems fine, but the TB1 device crashes when booting macOS and also after he successfully boots to macOS it crashes if he tries to unplug it.

4) Has anyone tried this on a Hackintosh?
a) I have both a 5,1 and a Hackintosh, but unfortunately don't have many Thunderbolt devices to test with. I'd like to isolate if this a Mac Pro issue or the firmware, OpenCore, or Tb.aml. Has anyone already isolated this?
