I agree....and I respect that....changing design without reason is a way to revamp useless products....
The Mini is already small and ultra-silent, what's the point of redesigning it? Is it a notebook? Does it have to get lighter/tougher/slimmer? Not at all...

I hope for a gf9400/ddr3/Mini-Dp/C2D Mac Mini without any redesign...

Because it's different and doesn't fit in.

Let's say you made cars, and all your cars were silver. Then there was an old car that was yellow. You would make another version of the yellow car but make it silver.

I'm not sure that apple will make it aluminum and black but it's more likely than them not changing it at all.
 
If Apple releases a new mini, I think it will be a redesigned one. I can't see Apple not releasing a new mini for 2+ years straight only to just slightly bump up the specs in 2009. They could have been doing that.

Something is up.

Just like:
- apple keyoard (white keys)
- apple Mighty Mouse
- all the DOCKS (iphone, ipod)
- airport express/airport extreme/time capsule
- ecc.
- a lot of third party accesories

The "white+silver" side of the Force is still very strong in Apple....
I don't know...
 
I prefer white to black so I hope they don't do the same enclosure with a black top. An all new enclosure that was all silver might be nice, or maybe with black accents?

Maybe Apple is waiting until after the UniMacBooks are updated in April or May to intro a new Mac mini. That way the mini could easily stay a generation behind, like it always has.
 
On the one hand, that video has me convinced.

OTOH, a little voice in my head says the old Apple would demand this be pulled of teh intarwebz in a heartbeat if it were real.

Regardless, I'd order two or three of these today if they showed up Tuesday on Apple.com, if only to retire the last remaining PCs at my house.

Because an Aluminium airport express/airport extreme/time capsule would work....:rolleyes:

I don't know if this point has been brought up but:
Monthy asked for his "nick" I assume nickname/handle to be removed, and how he has gone back and edited some posts to "n/a" - I believe these are the posts where he linked the image and the video (look at the quotes in the post after).

This tells me that what he has is legit and that he should not have it. Like previously discussed, it could be a prototype of some sort, or be the completed new Mini.

There have been rumors for years of a refresh to the Mac Mini but nothing has come to light to date. I think if there was to be a refresh they would style it more like the current iMac or MacBook and not white/silver.

I am hoping they do a refresh soon as the alternative is they kill off the product altogether.
 
The mini is getting some serious bad-mouthing these days, even from the Mac faithful. This can't be good for Apple. It's time something gets done. Spring will be here soon. If there's no new Mac mini soon, I'm going to buy a bike instead of a Mac. :D
 
How come they just upgrade the specs but not create an all-new design? I'm expecting slimmer, thinner and more powerful Mac mini.

Nice try....

Apple is still very WHITISH and it's a REAL SHAME, for a company so focused on design, to see a WHITE HOT DOG SHAPED MIGHTY MOUSE near to a sleek aluminum black iMac or Unibody macbook....still, it is there...and it has been there for 2 years...as well as the white cord on the back of the iMac...

So, as far as I'm concerned, the next Mini could still be silver+white...

Slimmer, thinner.....how? 1,8" ipod HDD? Feeble Atom/Ion stuff? Please Apple don't go there....
I'd rather see a (slightly) LARGER mini with a 3,5" HDD....

Doesn't say much to me. The video is still circulating, and by now everyone knows who the poster is.

Agreed.

How or why anyone would want the thing to be smaller I don't know , and all this about this colour and that :eek: its a computer not clothing :D.

I just want anything at this stage , same form factor with macbook internals will do, done , sorted for me and I'll buy two.
 
home media server

It looks to me like the beginnings of a home media server. The extra USB ports could connect external USB drives is a RAID setup
 
ok, if you wanted to fake the video output, you could just mask out the REAL video output with black tape and run the cabling through the monitor's base and into a hole (say like the ones on every computer desk in the world) and connected to a mac pro under the desk running a video screen capture of someone looking at something that seems like system profiler, but is actually just a screenshot of a fake system profiler page, replacing the real info with the "known" specs for the new mac mini.

it would be MUCH easier to do that than it would be to make a physical mockup of the back connectors and give it the fit/finish/polish that was given to this mini.

Faking system profiler and making a video of it would be ridiculously easy. If I didn't have more important things to do with my time, I would show you today. Unfortunately, i don't care enough. Faking system profiler would be only a little more difficult than typing it.

You're defeating your own argument with that link.

Look at the back panel of that real-life mac mini clone...

it is clunky and harsh-looking. The round ports have square holes around them because it was easier and cheaper to make a square hole for them.

the power button is actually a super-cheap toggle switch.

Apple made the back panel that monthy's video shows. Whether or not that's what the "real" new mini will look like, that's a different question, but that's no cheap "eastern" knock-off.
