Friendly match, Juventus - Atalanta, at half time Juventus managed to get 54% ball possession, 10 shots, of which 3 on target. Allegri must be furious. I guess he will tell the guys it's time to fall back and defend the 0-0 draw.

Or a result most neutrals would want.
Agreed.

You have written about the 'greedy six' (which I do not defend - it is indefensible - on the subject of the super league), but, for my part, I loathe the state-owned sportswashing model of club ownership.

Mike Ashley's stewardship of Newcastle may have been rightly deplored, - with good reason - but give me Mr Ashley (with all of his faults) any day, over a state owned sports washing club.

Since that particular change of ownership, I must admit that I have come to detest Newcastle (and I write as someone who once taught at a university in the North East for a year, which meant that I lived there, liked it, really liked the people, and really felt for the people of that region and their struggles with the well known socio-economic issues of the region).

NUFC are definitely not a club many neutrals will be rooting for.

I watched the Arsenal match - the Gunners looked pretty good against a Nottingham Forest side that spend most of the match with five at the back defending. Though to be fair, had Forest taken both their chances it would have been a draw. Great goal by Saka and Martinelli's footwork for the assist on the first goal was spectacular.

A 'Reloaded' 'Pool start their campaign tomorrow against Chelsea - by the end of the week Moises Caicedo will be playing for one of those clubs though it's still anyone's guess which. Rumor is Moses wants to go to Chelsea, but Liverpool's bid has been accepted.

And of course this week we learned that Bellingham would probably be in Liverpool if Henderson and Fabinho's moves had come earlier, since Caicedo will cost more than Liverpool refused to pay for Bellingham. Things can change quickly in the transfer market.

Yes not a fan of Mike Ashley or the current owners. I lived in Newcastle when Kevin Keegan was manager. The ‘I’d love it if we beat them’ years!
So yes they have always been one of those clubs I keep more of an eye on than others.

With combustible Italians, you never know....

Watching some DFB Pokal action (just finished Essen - Hamburg) while waiting for Chelsea - Liverpool. Some comedy defending but excitingly close matches.

Resigned, or was asked to resign?

As of now, no reason appears to have been given for the sudden resignation.
There are two rumors going around, one has the Federation's President wanting to make changes to Mancini's staff and Mancini not liking that, the other one has a huge offer to be Saudi Arabia's national team's coach.

Ah, interesting.

That makes some sort of sense.

When I read the story (shortly before you posted it) in today's Guardian/Observer, I was struck by the fact that it was strangely short on background and context and gave no explanation whatsoever - not even a sugar-coated PR exercise of an explanation - for this news.

Nice move for Diaz's goal. I think as far as offensive play goes Liverpool should be fine this season.

Chelsea are definitely going to score though. This is going to be another one of those seasons where Liverpool will need to score 2-3 goals every week if they want to be winning matches. Matip won't be consistently healthy and I am skeptical of Konate even though I want to believe he can step up. I think he is too easily drawn out of position, leaving Virgil exposed or too far away to help.

This won't end 1-0. The upsoide from Liverpool's perspective is that this is probably the best time of the season to grab a win at Samford Bridge.
