After watching the video, I have to think this kid really does have a mental disability. It seems like if HTC fires and/or sues his parents that it would be a PR nightmare if he has a mental handicap.

As for the phone, I really like the look of it. Most happy about the SD slot. I probably won't ditch my Note 3 as my daily driver, but I might consider getting this to play around with and have as a backup phone.

I like the front more on the M7.

I like the rear more on the M8.

Personally, I would love HTC to win it again for best smartphone. But I'm not sure how much different and improved the M8 is from the M7. It generally looks the same from the front with a few minor changes. I do like the M8's back a tad more than the M7 with the steel grey/brushed aluminium look and black strips. The successor to the Moto X would be my dark horse pick to win best smartphone of 2014. But let's not count out the S5, Note 4, LG G3, iPhone 6, and Nexus 6 either.

Lately on my BlinkFeed, the my mobile sources would usually show a pic of the HTC One or its logo on the back. Now it seems pix of the S5's rear with its heart monitor is popping up all over the place. I expect the M8 will be pictured alot with the rear as well. Plus, Samsung is too strong with marketing. Super Bowl, NBA, Academy Awards, Olympics, etc. They could very well recapture best smartphone of the year with the Galaxy S5 or even Note 4 and best manufacturer of the year like they were in 2011 and 2012 when they were back-to-back champions for both categories.

2013 might have been just a fluke year by HTC and LG. Samsung and Apple are going to come back stronger this year.

Saw the video, and I'm definitely not a fan of the M8's looks.

The One really nailed it in terms of proportions, and the surface texture worked beautifully with those sharp edges and the speaker grilles. It was a surprisingly good looking phone which immediately stood out from all the rest.

But the M8 just doesn't have that sharpness, and the proportions have been messed up. This is particularly underlined by the onscreen buttons being stacked on top of the logo bezel, which so clearly looks made to house capacitive buttons. It just looks like they were originally going to use capacitive buttons but changed their mind last minute, when it was already too late to change the design.

So, a "meh" looking phone, just nothing special really, crowned by what looks like a blatant mistake on the front. A clear step backwards for HTC, in my book at least. It makes me a tiny bit sad because I thought they really had something special going with the One, and really I was hoping for pretty much the same phone, perhaps a bit bigger, but with a better camera.

They still have the speaker thing going for them (hopefully), and maybe whatever that new camera system is will kick ass. But given HTC's camera karma, I doubt it.

This phone gets the :( score from me. I'll be most happy to eat my words if they prove me wrong when it actually comes out.

I really like the rounded edges. I don't want anything sharp when I'm handling the device daily. There is no plastic on the sides now which should make the M8 thinner and lighter.

Best case scenario would have been no bottom black bezel. Absolutely. But HTC was never going to alter the One drastically after releasing the M7. I'm guessing from the start they decided to use the blueprint created for the M7 to finalize the M8. I'm also pretty sure they need the space created by that black bezel to house internal components for the device. People online (not just here but just about every comments section of any tech site) really simplify things when they say that HTC 'should have gotten rid of that black bezel'. Perhaps placing 3 capacitive buttons on the bezel (instead of the logo in the middle) would have been 'better'. That's entirely subjective as it would have made the screen 5" in addition to capacitive buttons. HTC probably feels it's important to keep their logo on the front seeing as they are currently struggling as a company.

I'd really like to know what day exactly this will be available in stores or for pre-order. Hopefully the keynote will confirm this.

Gotta say, I prefer the look of the gunmetal model. The silver doesn't look as premium, to my eyes at least.

Now that we've seen the entire phone on video any pictures of the M8 from Evleaks are pretty anticlimactic now.

I wish the keynote was today. This is an annoying wait.

Well that's not really HTC's fault now, is it.

More colours...

I think those cases look undeniably cool, but the cynic in me is wondering how it'll work; does it display info all the time? Or only when the power button is pressed (if so it's really only for appearance sake)? Or will it be gesture-based?

Perhaps all this free time waiting for the announcement is just making me overthink things..:eek:

The cynic in me is saying 'I hope a cool case isn't compensating for a shoddy camera'....

Those sides are identical to the 5/5S. Don't like the bezel, but still a good looking phone.

Haha, at this point MacRumorUser, I find myself praying it'll have a great camera if only so you don't get disappointed.

P.S. I'm Irish myself, naturalized, raised in good ol' Cavan; for some odd reason I get the feeling you're a Cork-er.
