Why did the make the corners more rounded? And what's up with all the bezel? There's an HTC logo on the back does there really need to be on one the front too?

most likely for comfort. My biggest complaint with a lot of phones is the square, sharp corners.

of all other phones this is the one that intrigues me the most...I thought last years one was absolutely awesome...I have been down this road before though and I always come back to an iphone...not gonna drink the water this time...

I'm kind of terrified by these new leaks... It makes me believe the cameras will be 4Mpx and 2Mpx, or at least nowhere near 13Mpx...

Yep, this is the only part for me that could let me down at this point. Double tap to wake is a blessing IMO. However the guy on Reddit claimed you could also swipe to wake. Who knows for sure at this point. Regardless you can wake the phone without hitting a physical button, which I think is a blessing.

Regardless of MP count I'll be pre-ordering. HTC made all the changes I really wanted to see.

Very interesting news.

If the camera is good enough, I'll seriously be tempted.

The S5 is cool but a bit blah. The Xperia Z2 may just be too damn big.

The M8 might be the one!

IMO it seems HTC has included almost everything people like and wanted in this new One to try and mitigate that the cameras are again low resolution/UltraPixel.

They've included double tap to wake, microSD, on screen buttons, bigger display, bigger battery, etc.

All of this to try and convince customers to look away when they find out the cameras are still low resolution. "Oh well, it's still 4Mpx, but it now has microSD and double tap to wake!".

Hope I'm wrong.

I hope you are wrong as well. I don't need the best camera ever, but I need something better than the 4 ultrapixel camera in the current One.

I bet HTC even included the new second camera on the back to make the UltraPixel camera more feature rich (with all those after effects) and more liked by all those critics.

Makes sense.

Same size as z2, but smaller screen, smaller battery, still 4 mp cam.

Z2 has also front stereo speaker and is waterproof. Good bye htc!

That size is crazy! They could have reduced the bezel at the bottom and kept it the same size as last years model but with a larger screen. I was hoping to get the Google Play Edition this year, but that is just way too large of a device for a 5-inch screen. It's even bigger than the Galaxy S5, which I also think is ridiculous for a smartphone that you carry in your pocket. Bring on the 2014 Mini. Maybe they'll do a GPE Mini this year.

If those specs are true, 160 grams is a big let down personally. To put that in perspective, the Note 3 is 168 grams. The carrier rep on Reddit also said it felt lighter. For shame. M8 follows the S5's lead by getting larger and heavier.

The biggest difference between the S5 and M8 is the weight. 15 grams. The M8 is 4 mm taller and they are essentially identical in width.

Disappointed with the battery.

Just 2600? At least put it on par with the SGS5, not to mention the 3200 one in the Z2...

And there you go with the UltraPixel s*** too.

And no 4K video recording? I much rather have that than post focus or whatever...

If those specs are true then no HTC for me either.

The G2 is again looking great for me... 3000 battery, better camera than this one probably, also double tap to wake, smaller with bigger battery, etc.

Not really surprised--early rumors speculated as much so none of these flaws are shocking.

I haven't been terribly impressed at all by the most recent Android offerings. The
Galaxy S5 didn't address much of the criticism of the S4, the One is barely even an incremental upgrade and in some ways, a downgrade (big increase in size, huge bottom bezel, top right power button and no IR sensor), the Z2 would be great if it wasn't so damn big. The Note 3 is a powerhouse but not suitable if you don't want a phablet (or don't like Samsung's design and TW).

If I was looking for a new Android, I'd still probably lean towards the Moto X or Z1 Compact, and each of those still have their own issues.

The M8 could still have an IR blaster. Power button feels irrelevant now with tap to wake.

The problem is that the S5, Z2, and now M8 all got bigger and heavier. This feels like a step backwards. We praise the Note 3 for making the screen a touch larger but also making the phone no larger in its dimensions and in fact lighter. This is what I want from a phone.

The iPhone 6 will sport a 4.7" screen and be light weight but most likely won't offer anything special with its speaker. I feel like stereo speakers would be perfect for how I use a phone daily. I'm still probably pre-ordering the M8 but leaping from 143 grams to 160 grams the following year is a huge letdown.

Tap to wake certainly helps but as with the G2, feels like a solution to an unnecessary problem created by awkward power button placement. And it's only half a solution as you still need to push the power button to put it to sleep.

I'm not saying any of these new flagships are terrible, but rather that each have significant detractions and IMO, offer limited reasons for owners of last year's flagships to upgrade. And I hate to say it, as I'm a fan of last years HTC One, but the new One seems to be the most disappointing of the big three.

I thought tap to wake meant you could also double tap to sleep. I would be just as happy with a power button on the right edge but if an OEM won't offer that I will gladly tap to wake.

I honestly don't think most people update their phone every year. And I don't think the aim of an OEM is to get the owners of last years model to get the new one.

I did not like the One last year. I think the M8 is a huge improvement. But making the phone heavier and larger is a step back IMO.

I agree that in the past most customers didn't upgrade their devices every year but with the introduction of unsubsidized plans at all major carriers here in the US, that's likely to change to some degree. And they'd better attempt to target purchasers of last years model because if they don't, those who do plan to upgrade will likely look elsewhere. I'm aware i'm in the minority but I purchased numerous phones over the past year and a half (it doesn't take much to get me to try new versions :D) and I won't be even considering a new One. It's foolish to assume that all of your potential customers haven't bought a phone in at least 2 years--look how many Apple customers replace their iPhones on a yearly basis. Apple has an advantage in that if someone wishes to stick with iOS, they don't really have any other options. Android customers, on the other hand, have plenty of other choices.

I'm glad you like the new One and hope there are millions more just like you as HTC needs as many customers as they can get at this point. I'm just not overly optimistic about their prospects. Last year's One felt more revolutionary and it did little to turn the tide in HTC's favor. This year's release just doesn't seem to have that same buzz.

What exactly do you mean by this?

Even with programs to offer early upgrades I do believe most Americans wait until their contract has expired to upgrade.

I don't think an OEM targets last year's buyer of their flagship. They probably just do their best to offer the best product they can that year.

I don't know many iPhone users that upgrade their iPhone yearly. I believe those who do are a small minority. It's not a coincidence that the iPhone is redesigned every two years.

I wasn't saying anything about HTC's future. I'm also rooting for them. Competition only benefits the consumer.
