Congrats to new owners, I do feel you will keep it. As soon as my Note 3 is sold, I'm with you.

It should tide me over on the Android side, others are coming and the M8 will be in the top rankings I am sure regardless.

And no immediate urgency to use an alternate launcher like that other one coming next week. :)

Yes ok for the odd shot, but you will regret it if that is all you use!!

Never said that's all I use but I also don't walk around all the time with my camera pack so having a good smartphone camera, relatively speaking of course, is important for me. When I had the M7, I wasn't confident it would do a decent job for those spur of the moment shots. I hope the M8 offers sufficent improvement for those who chose it.

Thats a great point.....you never know when a moment will present itself. Carrying a camera around is not a good option for most except for professionals. So we turn to the device we have on hand which is our smartphone. While i don't expect my phone to take professional shots.....i do expect it to be up to the task at that moment.

Yup, would've missed capturing my youngest taking his first steps if I had relied on using my stand alone camera. Thankfully, the convenience afforded of having one's mobile in their pocket, coupled with how quickly it's ready for action, allowed me to capture the moment both in stills and in video.

I use my dSLR whenever possible (school events, birthdays, sports, days at the park, get togethers with family/friends, etc) yet I still probably end up capturing more moments spontaneously with my smartphone so I have higher expectations of its camera.

Don't lecture me on camera optics. I am more than educated enough, if you don't believe me - you and my €20k hassleblad digital back and lenses can enjoy that discussion in your own time...

As for saying HTC are debunking the MP myth, that is just as fallacious as the MP myth in the first instance.

What HTC fail to inform customers is that whilst it is indeed a fallacy that "more mp automatically make a better picture when if the lens itself is not up to scratch it simply won't."

So whilst a better lens will result in better pictures than just MP alone, what is important to state is that a decent lens with 13-20mp will still produce better 'more detailed' photos than a decent lens 4mp.

If you have a good lens, then sorry but MP do matter, and the fact HTC's camera fails to even live up to the promise of capturing more light for better images, when in almost every daylight shot it struggles and over exposes images resulting in a device which not only lack detail, but struggles with what 'strength' it supposedly has.

So yes the higher MP alone is a myth, but the fallacy that HTC has created with the Ultrapixel lens is a greater myth...... and people are still believing it...

No.. if you buy the HTC one for the camera you are wasting your money....

Gee calm down old mate, not trying to lecture you. If you own a camera that good you obviously agree with my point that no phone camera is going to replace a good camera.
I would never buy any phone based on how good or not the camera is. At leads these top end phones seem to have good video cameras. Even if they vary on stills.

Any way to stop apps from moving from the home screen to the next page when touching the screen accidentally?

I have decided to get the device.
It will be my first Android device ever.
What I am curious about is if it's any way (without rooting at least) that can make the Android multitasking act like the iOS one.

I wonder why there is only a 16GB version available. The 32GB isn't being sold here in Germany, at least not yet. Having a MicroSD is not the same thing to me.

I played with the thoughts of getting it and selling my iPhone 5S, but at the end my Apple blood won :)
I would miss the camera and the seamless integration of iOS with my Macs. I believe Android is a great OS, but better suited for users with Windows or users that don't use all Apple services and ecosystem.
Apart from that the HTC One has a very big display, so I am not sure if I would like it..I believe phones should be a little smaller than that.

I had an opportunity to use the M8 for a full day, it's a very impressive model.

Had Apple created an iPhone this size and released it in 2013, they'd have increased their profits even more. Why they've held back so long can only be attributed to their stubborn egos. It'd be nice to see Apple mellow out, not be so combative, and focus on what they do best, create new products.

Greenify app.

Been watching some YouTube videos about the battery life and it's really impressive. It's getting similar battery life to the G2 apparently, with just 2600.

I use my iPhone as my only camera, so for me getting the HTC One would be difficult. I have to admit though, it has tempted me a lot!

Decent battery life is one of the main reasons of buying the phone.
Besides the great HTC software optimization, the Snapdragon 801 is sort of a Haswell upgrade. great power consumption and a greater GPU according to the Anandtech M8 review.

I hate closing pps all the time from my Symbian S60 days. That is why I avoided Android for so long and besides the horrible UI design.
I think 2014 is finally the year when android phones can be fully as refined as an iPhone. 2013 was 85% there but not fully.

Finally got a chance to look at one today while the wife was shopping at the mall. It's a very beautiful device, and the build-quality is top notch. I think it even rivals what comes out of Cupertino these days.

By searching for more M8 news I stumbled upon more G3 rumors and according to the articles it's in an *all but confirmed" status.

2k 5.3-5.5" display
Snapdragon 805 (!)
3-4 gb ram
32gb
MicroSD
waterproof a la S5
Metal unibody a la M8
Dual BoomSound like speakers

This sounds simply too good to be true and would put every single smartphone to shame including the Note4.

What do you guys think ?

Just Google Lg G3 and you will find plenty.
That being said, having iPhones for years Apple "educated" me too look past the specs aspect.

1. How is LG's custom Skin of Android ? Is it optimized and good loking as HTC ? HTC also has practical Apple-like "gimmicks" such as the Motion Luncher and raise phone to ear to answer call etc. I love small.details like this.

2. How is LG with software updates ? I know they came a very long way in the past year but I remember their Optimus days and they were dreadful.

3. For some reason I highly doubt LG can craft a device as strong as HTC from the first try. I think the G3 is actually their first attempt ever at metal unibody.

4. Battery life. Let's face it. At this point resolution over 1080p on a 5" phone is useless. Maybe for 6-6.3" phablets can make a slight improvement. And if there is one thing I have learned from ney tech in displays is avoid 1st gen.

Overal even though I am switching Androd I still appreciate phones from an Apple approach. I value stability, refinements and design/build quality.

That being said my investment is for at least 2 years and since LG seems to be coming with better specs I can wait another couple months.

In the end for me, what matters is how.the phone feels for me. I have a feeling LG won't be able to deliver the same build.

I keep trying to like this phone but I just can't get past the camera.

I like almost everything except size and maybe a bigger battery.

But the camera...

I feel for you...

I went through this twice with the M7, so won't even dare to get the M8 despite me thinking it's the sexiest android handset and really liking HTC's sense skin. (Prefer it over stock)

I know I couldn't deal with the camera and it would tarnish my enjoyment.

Seriously HTC why put people in this predicament by your insistence of giving us an ultrapixel...

Sounds like someone's just churning out a wish list, and I'm betting we won't see an 805 until much later in the year anyway. 4gb is seriously not needed either.

Personally I detest LG's skin, it's worse than Touchwiz and that's saying something...

Wow and there I thought there simply cannot be something worse than TouchWiz.
Well that pretty settles is it for me.
I don't want to root my device and custom-rom with it. That's so 2010.

I honestly think LG deciðed to copy Samsungs UI and then thought to themselves 'how can we make this even more irritating? I know we will put lots of needless transitions in there"...

Seriously closest analogy I can think of is that episode of The Simpsons where Homer is editing video with Lisa and throwing in Star Wipes every few seconds...

I found LG's stock apps to be both aesthetically incoherent and inconsistent, it's icons are just nasty. The whole thing reaks of a poor copycat of an already flawed and aesthetically troubled OS.

Of course this is my personal findings and viewpoint, others may be less fussy about design, but for me LG's skin is a crime against design.
