Even if HTC had a better camera in the M8, how many more would it sell? Today's food for thought. :)

The iPhone and Samsung is what is on Joe/Jane's radar blipping endlessly.

Can't speak for anyone else but... I've only ever owned iPhones. Each year I'm more and more tempted to move to Android (mostly because I want a bigger screen). The HTC One is the only Android phone I would even consider. Won't do it if the camera is no good though. So not a guaranteed sale here but they did take themselves off of my very short list by not improving the camera.

I have had my S5 in water already....no problems there at all. The Galaxy S5 does protect against dust and water to some degree and is IP67 certified. While there might be demonstrations showing that the HTC One M8 can also be dunked in water while operating, but HTC doesn’t advertise this ability or honor warranty claims for water damage. Samsung will honor warranty claims as the Galaxy S5 is IP67 certified.....
So you say your M8 is water proof....so show us!
Here is my S5 underwater.....so lets see yours! :)

The S5 is probably the ugliest flagship smartphone in recent memory to be honest. It even makes the Note 3 look sexy.

I guess that is subjective....its not a as pretty as the M8 that is for sure. But I prefer function over form......

Fair enough. I personally find the features of the M8 a lot more enjoyable actually. I enjoy BlinkFeed, the front facing speakers, the cleanness of Sense 6, the Bokeh uFocus effect on the camera, the 5MP front facing camera on top of the gorgeous aesthetics. HTC has a winner on their hands, while Samsung seems to be stuck in neutral. Just my opinion!

HTC v Samsung ... squabbling and tit for tat posting...

Please stop bickering folks .... it makes these threads torturous to read and looks bad for anyone looking into this thread section.

It's all very a juvenile pissing match ... Folks show each other respect, if you want your thoughts and opinions respected, then you have to respect someone who may have a contrary opinion.

Just because someone feels differently about a device doesn't invalidate your own feelings or thoughts people, its just a subjective difference.

So please I can't believe I have to ask this - but can we put an end to the back and forth tit for tat squabbling because to be honest it's making you all seem like juvenile delinquents.

Thats not AT&T, that's that stupid stores policy. I would call AT&T's customer service and complain.

Each one gives the same scripted response basically, "We are a corporate store, the policy is we cannot sell anything at retail with no contract".

That's false because I have done it before. Multiple times actually. You should ask them why the signage by each phone has a no-contract price next to it then.

You can also buy one using at&t next plan, then just pay off the balance on the phone the following month.

That is what I do.....then pay off the phone....now you are basically month to month with no contract. Now you can upgrade or buy a new phone if you get bored with your current phone.

Mind giving a little more details on this?

AT&T won't stop me from getting a new phone using their next program and I can just pay it off the following month without any penalty? It is my understanding that with the 'Next' plan, you actually pay more in the long run.

The next plan is only a payment plan on your phone, it is not a cellular plan with minutes or anything. It's basically a no interest credit card for your phone purchase. You only end up paying more if you're on a contract plan, if your off contract or plan on buying the phone outright you end up paying the same.

When sticking to the cameras strong points it can produce some decent shots.

Just imagine the clarity that more pixels would have added...

Not a very bad image at all when viewed small but clear example of the limits of 4mp.

Basically don't shoot things with detail in the far ground .. Keep it close up and you get ok shots, but as soon as you try and capture greater scope it can come unstuck...
