Was intrigued until I saw specs for the CPU and RAM. I don't expect top end (though I don't see why they couldn't come closer to their flagship, as Sony has done) but this is a big step down. Only 1GB of RAM and a nearly 2 year old CPU? The iPhone only has 1GB of RAM, is probably the most optimized smartphone on the market, and it can struggle on occasion due to its memory limitations.
Another new release that makes too many compromises...
Ill just say my M8 with 9 open apps uses about 850mb-900mb
With no additional open apps it sits about 650mb (with all background services enabled)
I have only seen it go over 1GB once and thats with all those other apps open and then launching Asphalt 8.
I'd be less concerned about the Mini 2 having 1gb than Samsung's Mini S5 having 1.5gb.
Understood, though I still think it's walking too close to the proverbial edge, so to speak.
Regardless, as much as I like the design/style, I'll stick with the Z1 Compact over this.
I just find myself really irritated by the fact the mini has a 13mp and I'm stuck with this ok 4mp and a depth sensor that has lost all it's novelty 3 seconds after first using it ....
Completely baffles me why they did this ....
Wont be long before they surely announce a Z2 compact too.
Just watched a brief hands-on with the One Mini 2 over at Android Central and near the end of the video they bring up a great point--the new One Mini 2 is basically identical in size to last years One (M7), which has a superior display (resolution and size), CPU, RAM, and has an IR blaster. So at this point the only improvement this 'mini' version has over last year flagship is a potentially better camera, though one with far fewer software options.
These choices by HTC baffle me as well, because I can almost guarantee that the M7 will be cheaper than the new One Mini 2.
Yeah, but M7 has that weird button arrangement (I highly prefer the on screen buttons on the M8 and Mini 2), and also a terrible camera IMO.
Also people complained about not so great battery life last year, so maybe the new Mini 2 might be better.
Three important details to take into consideration.
I don't need a powerful CPU, but I'll admit those 2GB RAM are preferable.
To me the Mini 2 doesn't seen like a big upgrade over my S3: same battery size, same RAM, low end CPU, I already have microSD, still 720P display but smaller, etc.
But I really like the looks, BlinkFeed, etc. But that price...

This supposed to be the iPhone killer?
There will never be an iPhone killer! That term has been thrown around since the original Droid came out.
I'm back to my m8 as my daily driver after a week with my S5 as a daily driver, It's just so much more intuitive to use than my s5.
Sense 6 is great. I am normally a huge Nexus phone guy, having owned the Nexus-One, Nexus-S 4G, Galaxy Nexus, and Nexus 4.
I LOVE Sense 6, I even tried the GPE ROM on the M8, and ran back to Sense 6. It looks great, very minimalistic design, and cool black white theme, and great Phone Dialer app, as well as many other HTC apps.
I liked the phone dialer app on my S5 better, bigger and more responsive.
How's it more responsive?
Personally I think whilst it's a slight improvement it still feels like the same dialer from a 2009 device. It does the job but without much finesse, but I can see why brighter bigger buttons could be preferential that the darker theme of Sense 6, but still don't see how it's more responsive ?
One thing that is really good on the S5 over the M8 dialer wise though is when your in an application and you get a call, you get that little window to answer / reject a call rather than dialer screen take the whole screen.
After 3 weeks with the M8 I returned to my iPhone 5S. The reasons?
- Display quality is so much better on the iPhone. Color accuracy is bad on the HTC and that is for me a show stopper.
- The device is a bit too big for me.
- Android. Yes, it has some great features, but a lot of rough edges. It isn't as polished as iOS and it doesn't integrate as well with OS X as iOS.
- The iPhone does all basic stuff much better than Android..
I got my M8 at the beginning of April and I love it. I had to have it replaced because the top right corner by the screen was lifting. The day I shipped it back to HTC I noticed the camera lens cover was cracked. I had it in a case from day one, never dropped it, and nothing ever shared a pocket with it ever. Anyway, my new one has been fine, but I've read about this issue on AndroidCentral M8 forums. It seems like a pretty common issue, but I'm wondering how common. Maybe it was a bad batch?
Does anyone know what calender widget this is?
