I got in my Noreve wallet case from France for the M8 and took a few pictures:

It definitely adds some thickness, but it is a wallet case after all. The leather is superb. Red wasn't my first choice, but thats my favorite of the colors they had for immediate shipment. I might order another of their cases in gunmetal or black, the quality is great!

Yeah they look good i was thinking of getting this one for S5, has a hole for the notification light which is hard to find on the nice leather cases. A lot Cheaper than vaja and piel frama too.

After hearing all the praise for the battery life, I'm concerned since my m8 has struggled to get to 12 hours on a normal days use with automatic screen brightness and the usual suite of social media app usage and browsing.

What are you guys doing to get your 1 day+ usage?

I'm actively doing nothing special to get decent battery life... Here's my usual day.

I have usual sway of Twitter, Facebook, Google plus, installed.
I have 3 emails syncing every 15.
I listen to bluetooth audio in the car for about 90 minutes
I spend around 40 minutes on calls
I send around 25 texts each day on average
I read my blinkfeed
I take half a dozen photos daily
I listen to headphones / music for around 90-120 minutes
I use the TV remote sporadically throughout the day
I have my device in a dot view case all day

From taking off charge at 8am to going back on charge around 10:30-11:00 pm I usually have around 50-60% left on battery ....

If your having poor battery life, you need to check your app usage and see if there is any specific app you may have installed that is using more power than anything else. Then isolate that app (uninstall it for now) and see if battery usage levels off.

If you can't find anything special using power, I'd do a factory reset.

You use your phone much more than me yet the battery life I get is nowhere close to yours.

But I'll definitely try your suggestions. Since I'm using a Verizon phone in New Zealand with a non-verizon sim, would that have any effect on the battery life?

It really shouldn't. Do you get 4G ? I assume you likely don't. We don't get 4G here where I am so I know that drains battery faster.

Definitely sounds like something like a rouge app is eating your battery. You shouldn't be having that struggle.

Nope no 4G here yet. And there are no exotic apps on the phone, just the usual facebook, twitter, instagram, google services etc.

Judging by the running apps list in the app manager settings panel, Facebook tops out at 35mb used whatsapp/viber/google search/messenger at 25mb and HTC Sense input at 15mb, with everything else <10mb

Since I'm using a verizon phone overseas, I haven't been able to do software updates since it requires CMDA mode whereas we use Global here. Maybe I'm missing out on crucial software updates since I can't actually update my phone?

Assuming you've been on a full day and battery is down (no point doing this when its fresh tbh)

Go into settings / power / usage

From app usage here you will see a list of apps and percentage of battery they have used. What are the top 2 and are they significantly more than anything else, if so - thats likely the culprit app.

Ex M8 owners do like to over-exaggerate on here ;). Seriously Robster3, you don't need to keep telling us over and over again. You seem to be putting down the M8 a bit irrationally since your decision to keep the S5 only, it's ironically just like a plethora of negative posts of the S5 you made prior to getting that device.

The onscreen buttons were never a problem before you got the S5, and the screen real estate is more skin to a 4.7" device when the onscreen buttons are on than 4.5

Likewise I don't hear you complaining about the moto g, moto x, nexus 5, xperia z2 - all of which have onscreen buttons with similar or smaller screens.

Likewise this completely ignores the fact that in games, YouTube, play books, videos etc. The onscreen buttons are automatically hidden giving you the full screen.

You should see the bezels on the Z2 in person if you think the m8 is bad. It reminds me of the Nexus 7 2013. Top and bottom they are bigger than the M8's bezel areas. You simply notice it more on the M8 because of that bottom area above boom sound speaker.

For me I am bored with my S5 and looking at other phones. Which i do constantly as everyone here knows....i buy a lot of phones. I was looking at the M8 again and thinking of getting one again. Thats what led me to that article and the picture. I did not remember losing that much screen real estate.

That photo blends the onscreen buttons with bezel, giving the appearance they are using more screen estate than they actually are..

Another photo just different perspective.

I am on the fence about the Z2.....I have heard great things about it...but then i have read your thoughts and it makes me hesitant. Plus it seems to be overpriced. But the Z2 price is dropping a little at a time. If it keeps coming down I might get one. But i want to see the LG G3...Lg does a great job with screen utilization. HTC is really trying hard to improve the One....they could take a note from LG on that.....

Why did you get rid of the one you had? I dont really understand those who get many phones. Some i just really have no interest in. Ive no interest in the M8 or the Z2. I mean its cool that you can do that, i'm just arent interested in all of them...and you already had a M8, lol.

For me i did not like the camera. I am outdoors a lot and take a ton og pictures will hiking and off roading. So a good camera is a must. I dod not like the button placement on top of the phone. The M8 is a great phone. It looks awesome! I wonder how many M8 owners put cases on them? I don't like cases and was always worried about dings.....

Sometimes....I don't understand it myself! :)
I see a new phone coming out and i start to read up on it and it grabs my attention.....then before you know it.........i have it!

I'd be interested in the LG G3 too, but not if LG don't make radical changes to their UI. It looks a cracking device hardware wise.

The Z2 was a big disappointment for me, but clearly there are lots of folks who are enamoured by it. I'm actually surprised genuinely by the easy pass the 4k over heating issue has had on it though. To me the Z2 was too many broken hardware/software features. Over heating 4k. 20mp camera that can't shoot above 8mp in any mode or HDR and the 20mp manual had No actual manual controls so not sure what was manual about it... Wasn't big fan of Sonys stock apps other than Walkman either. On the little scratch on the back glass after 2 days of being babied was the straw that broke the camels back for me... I lost faith in it very quickly.

I don't mind the on screen buttons. There is a difference between negative and telling it how it is. My reason for keeping the S5 are different than your's for selling it.

The M8 has a full 5" screen as advertised, is that better:)

They evened the phones up to almost match side by side. If you match them up by bottom of screens......the M8 wastes a lot of screen.
