For me i did not like the camera. I am outdoors a lot and take a ton og pictures will hiking and off roading. So a good camera is a must. I dod not like the button placement on top of the phone. The M8 is a great phone. It looks awesome! I wonder how many M8 owners put cases on them? I don't like cases and was always worried about dings.....

----------

Sometimes....I don't understand it myself! :)
I see a new phone coming out and i start to read up on it and it grabs my attention.....then before you know it.........i have it!

Another negative comment warning: I found M8 needs a case not just for stopping scratches and drops being slippery, but the volume buttons and power buttons are easily moved accidentally. Was better with the casemate barely there case i had. Tried the dot view but didn't like it.

I'd be interested in the LG G3 too, but not if LG don't make radical changes to their UI. It looks a cracking device hardware wise.

The Z2 was a big disappointment for me, but clearly there are lots of folks who are enamoured by it. I'm actually surprised genuinely by the easy pass the 4k over heating issue has had on it though. To me the Z2 was too many broken hardware/software features. Over heating 4k. 20mp camera that can't shoot above 8mp in any mode or HDR and the 20mp manual had No actual manual controls so not sure what was manual about it... Wasn't big fan of Sonys stock apps other than Walkman either. On the little scratch on the back glass after 2 days of being babied was the straw that broke the camels back for me... I lost faith in it very quickly.
I agree with you on the LG UI....I hope they drastically improve that! I want to check it out in person at AT&T before getting one. Hopefully the G3 will have root and bootloader unlocked to get Cyanogen. I really miss being able to rom on my S5. Sammie has it locked down so tight.

How are LG traditionally when it comes to bootloader and rom friendliness?

The G2 was very easy to root and unlock the bootloader if I remember correctly. Then because of the phones specs it had a lot of Dev support for roms. I hope LG follows HTC in making it easy to unlock the bootloader. That is one of the reasons I was thinking of getting the M8 again. I head it has Cynanogen support now.

Yeah it does have nightlies support now and of course you can go down the GPE route too turning it into an official GPE device.

Maybe wait till the G3 announcement before you decide anything :)

Then why are you thinking of getting another? Camera still isnt as good and the button is still on top, lol.

As for cases, if i had one i would definitely have a case on it. I dont care for aluminum phones as they are way too slippery and it just looks like crap when it is all dinged up and scratched.

The only aluminum phone ive had is the First Gen iPhone. I still have my first gen iPod and that chrome back. That is too slippery too and i have it in a case. Looked like crap after two weeks getting scratches on it.

Yeah the G3 should be real interesting. I think maybe a bit too big for me. Im actually interested in getting the Nokia 925 so i can have a Windows phone with 8.1 on it.

It really shouldn't. Do you get 4G ? I assume you likely don't. We don't get 4G here where I am so I know that drains battery faster.

Definitely sounds like something like a rouge app is eating your battery. You shouldn't be having that struggle.

I've tried your suggestions out for today and as you can see, it's dropped to 44% in just 5 hours, with automatic brightness and app usage as such. Are the google services and android system supposed to use that much? During this span, there was music playing through headphones about 30% of the time and just chrome browsing, no videos whatsoever.

No your google services seem a bit high. !!!

Couple options to try

Turn off Google Now

1) Google now - turn it off. Launch google now, click menu button, click settings, hit toggle to turn off.

2) Charge and reboot phone, and check usage....

Keep Google Now but adjust location services

1) launch settings
2) go to location
3) hit mode and change it to battery saver.
4) hit Google Location Reporting
5) leave location reporting on, but turn off location history
6) charge and reboot phone, check it's usage now.

-------
Do this only if ones above don't solve it...

Both of those will prevent google services may solve your problem, however if they don't we must look at the next clue which is google play services using a lot of your battery

It could be a sign in error / ongoing syncing issue.

1) Simplistic way of solving this may be to go into settings / accounts / Google account
2) hit menu button, tap remove, say ok.
3) when removed reboot device
4) once phone is back on, do the same but go once in accounts click the + icon to ADD your google account back
5) let it sync

....

Let us know how you get on :). If none of those work, a clean factory reset may be the order of the day.

Thanks again for the help. I'll be giving this another go around tomorrow :)

Is it normal for Android System to use up that much though?

It can be high in comparison to other services, but not normally excessively, it was more google play services being high in correlation with it that makes me suspect its either google now / location services that is killing your battery life (seen this many times on other devices I've owned) or a signing in / syncing issue with your google account.

This was posted in a forum in Australia, another reason I kept the S5 over the M8.

Hi,

Myself and one of my sales guys recently took a few smart phones to know black spots in our area and recorded their db reading from the phones field test modes. Before you shoot me down I know this is far from controlled scientific testing however I intend this merely as a guide. I will say that these results have been supported by our customers experiences.

Below is the order from best to worst

Telstra Dave

Iphone 5C
Samsung S5 & S4 mini
Sony Z1

Iphone 5S
Samsung S4
HTC one

Off topic, but just have to say this One M8 is my favorite smartphone of all time. And I've owned around 12 or 13 different Android phones since 2009.

I'd say three phones really stand out as awesome phones for thier time to me. The EVO 4G, Note 2, and this M8 are my standout favorites.

What do you guys think of the M8 Ace?

Same specs but with plastic body and 13Mpx camera.

If the camera delivers I might be tempted.

Is the M8 the "best" phone, absolutely not, I don't think there is that perfect phone. I'd love a combination of the S5 + M8, that might be the "best" ever. But obviously that's not happening.

The M8 is great to me because;

- Excellent battery life for such a thin non phablet size device.
- LCD-3 screen is very clear and true in color, and is great outdoors on sunny days, I was burned out of AMOLED on my previous S4
- Sense 6 is by far the best UI out next to vanilla Android, and I dare say Sense 6 may be even better
- The metal build is amazing, on par with Apple devices
- The feel and shape of the M8 naked is great.

I am sure there will be better and cooler phones still to be released this year, but for me, this M8 in Glacial Silver, is almost as good as it gets realistically, not a nerds dream of a phone that doesn't exist yet, but a real device that hits most of the check marks. A 9/10 to me.
- The speakers still blow away a month later.

The build and UI optimizations are topnotch on the M8! :)
