Thanks Ari . I know my ugly mug detracts from the car.
The wire wheels aren't going to work out for the time being. I actually drove two hours to look at them and had the cash in my pocket but both the hubs and splines were shot. All I really would have gotten out of the deal was a wire wheel rear axle(which is narrower than the disk wheel axle) and a set of knock-offs but honestly didn't feel like hauling the 300lb lump of cast iron and steel home when none of the other parts were usable. It would have cost me another $1K+-for five new wheels and four new hubs.
All four wheels and all three hubs(it was missing one rear one) were worn so badly that I could turn the wheels on the hubs by hand-imagine trying to accelerate or brake with them that loose! I'm hoping the MG show this summer will turn up a usable set.
I know this is heresy, but I have come around to liking the Rostyles. They don't have the class of wires, but there's a lot to be said about the fact tubeless tires are inherently safer. Tubeless radials tend to develop a slow leak absent traumatic damage, while any damage to the integrity of an inner tube will almost always result in a blowout.
I also decided that I was tired of the nice, reliable American made fuel pump and replace it with a British made one . Most British cars were fitted with SU fuel pumps from the factory. These are diaphragm type pumps that only run when they can actually physically pump fuel(i.e. when the carb float bowls are less than full). They make a distinctive "tick tick tick" when pumping, but stop when the float bowls are full. By contrast, the Facet branded pump installed(which is specifically sold as an aftermarket replacement for the SU) ticks constantly and just opens a bypass valve when line pressure goes above the fuel line pressure reaches ~3.5psi(which is about the same point where an SU stops pumping).
SU pumps got a bad reputation because most of the original ones ONLY lasted about 30 years. The original design uses a set of points(electrical contacts) to activate the electromagnet that operates the pump. The points get pitted and corroded over time, although the originals can easily be rebuilt. The new one I bought over the counter at NAPA(brand new, made in England, SU branded) is electronic, meaning it uses a rare earth magnet and hall effect sensor in place of points. So, aside from the diaphragms, it should be maintenance free.
Unfortunately, someone butchered the original fuel line plumbing to install the aftermarket pump. The SU fuel pump master(who restores originals) hunted down some fittings that would work for me with my current set-up and sold them to me for a very reasonable price. The nice thing too is that I stuck the still working Facet pump in the trunk(it's not very big) and can pop it in on the side of the road if the SU fails me.
It's been so nice here lately that I haven't even started my Lincoln in a couple of days.

No human, man or women, will ever be able to compete with the attractive of a classic British Car. Thats why divorce and break up rates are so high among British Car enthusiasts. They seduce you with your charm, bleed your wallet dry, and then still refuse to work.
That's too bad to hear about the wire wheels, but no sense in buying garbage. The Rostyles are quintessentially British though- found on everything from MG to Land Rover to Jaguar. They certainly work and are farrrr more practical.
SU fuel pump.... Ben, you're a glutton for punishment. Better keep that aftermarket pump (and appropriate connectors) in the trunk for a rainy day.
Beautiful "B" even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side . I can't help but notice the puddle of liquid under the car...British cars do like to mark their territory
Thanks for the pep talk Ari The aftermarket pump is in the trunk and should(theoretically) be a 10 minute roadside repair if need be. Some folks actually install an SU and Facet pump in series then use a switch to select between them. Both are fine with having fuel pump through them when off, so if the SU pump acts up it's a simple matter to just flip the switch and fix the SU pump when you get home.
Speaking of ladies competing with the attractiveness of a British car-I've noticed that it does get the ladies' attention-but mostly ladies of my mom's age .
I'm really happy you mentioned the middle aged women. I think you've sold me on an MG. Or maybe you can lend me your car for a week? MILFs and Cougars are totally my thing.
Poor Natalie
Get me into those box seats at Churchill and we can work out a deal
BTW, another gratuitous photo. Unfortunately, it's impossible to even get close and they've built the two overgrown warts on either side of the spires.

Looks great. I love the BRG. Glad you're enjoying it. I need to find myself a RR Classic. But first priority is replacing the 5-series. Unfortunately @AutoUnion39 keeps pressuring me into undervaluing every car I look at . F10 - not as fun as the E60. LR4 - too dated. JGC - lacking interior wise. Touareg - lacking features overall, not a Cayenne etc

Season 3 premiere is this weekend!Hahaha, that's such a great Russ moment. I think the choice of car was very much by design, not just a "let's get another expensive car with regular doors", Judge is pretty dialed in with things like that.
Also ...
"You're basically still a billionaire."
"Not if you round down!"
My dad quit his job two weeks ago and was selling out his share of the company. A week later he's back at work. Interoffice drama? I don't know where he stands right now and those tickets. At least we can eat meat this week Hahahah. Last time I asked he was like "even I don't get to go".

I know, totally stoked. In fact, I'm more excited about SV than GOT (which probably tarnishes my nerd cred ...)
Ugh, why would you want that junk...I saw Infiniti is offering (like they have in the past), some really aggressive leases on their SUVs, the QX50 and QX60.
Ugh, why would you want that junk...
I guess if it's real cheap, you could put with it for 2-3 years

Yeah, just thinking out loud at the options. Infiniti wasn't even on my radar, just noted the lease program advertised.

I wonder if this is still possible?
OK, I realize it may sound like I'm all over the map - though I did list it in my original "I'm considering these three vehicles post - but, I just love the styling on the TRD 4Runner (5th gen). I mean, it adds significantly better off road capabilities we'd mostly never need, but I'm a sucker for purpose bred designs like this. Plus, it really improves the looks of the 5th gen over the other models.
I love Toyota 4x4s! It's a shame the 4R isn't more popular. No one can touch Toyota's combination of off-road ability, reliability, and resale!
Come up north and sell it! Used 4R/Tacos/LC/GX/LX command ridiculous money around here.I guess maybe my exceptions aren't realistic, even for a Toyota[?]
The problem is that you're being too picky. Just get an Altima or Lanos and be done with it. Stop complaining.
(Realistically, you should go buy an Evoque or something... to blend into Brookline of course)

How about a Volvo instead? MILF magnets

Well, all I can say is that for Derby and Oaks day, you're not missing much by staying at home. The one time I went to the Derby(not on my dime, thank goodness), it was pouring rain so everyone decided to pack in under the grandstands except for the races. It was so miserable there(imagine being in a cattle car, except all the cows are drunk out of their minds) that I waited the time out until the Derby in our $350 a piece bleacher seats. Once the Derby rolled around, everyone did come out, which just meant that while I'd had a good view for the earlier races, I could hardly see the Derby. We were right by the starting gate so at least got to see that, but couldn't see the tote board or anything else. It took me 5 minutes to find out who had won.
$10 general admission on any day other than Derby or Oaks will get you in and get you a pretty darn good seat too. Definitely a much better way to visit the track

That Volvo is nice, I just can't though ... it's silly, I know.
