On the X5, BMW gives you pano roof and Bi-Xenons standard.
Headlights and special roofs were always something BMW played at for as long as I can remember. The 1984 7 series promo material, IIRC, even had a quirky line about it, taking a potshot at MBZ.

It's pretty ridiculous. HIDs and pano roof were standard, but that came with no USB port, BT audio, NAV, leather, and heated seats at the time.

The base stripper F15 X5 is pretty decently equipped these days. iDrive with NAV, HIDs, BT, USB port, and pano roof are all std, but you still have to option up leather because BMW Sensatec is trash.

Even Lexus is slowly going this way. Leather and HID headlights used to be standard on the majority of their lineup... not anymore.

Get the convertible and convince her it's for her :)
It would accommodate my height even more. No. She did own a Porsche once, before we met. Mint 914. I didn't know about it until a few years ago while going through old pictures. If I were deadset on getting a 911, it would be a 997 Targa.

There was a time pano roofs were an option. It was the latest craze in cars. When I bought my Lexus, leather was an option. Lexus seems to be confused; they're stuck in the old mentality of the LS400, still. FI, better design, better options, etc. really need to be in their game plan.

The RC F, or the hunky thing it is, costs a small fortune when you option it to the gills. It costs less to get an M4 and option it to the gills.

Porsche options just make me laugh. $1500 sunroof option on a $80k Cayenne? Heated seats? USB adapter? All options. Even Porsche comes with partial-leather seats these days. They charge $$$ for the full leather PLUS the leather dash/door/trims.

Don't forget, if you want Porsche to remove anything from your car, that costs extra too! (Oh yeah, want to change the colour of the Porsche crest? $500 please!) :D

Fortunately, if I ever had the money to buy any Porsche (likely a Cayman), that's one car that would definitely BTO. Give me whatever the base options are and let me add the options that I need and forget everything else. That would be worth waiting a few months for.

I can't get over how hideous the RC-F is. Lexus really ****ed up the whole RC line with that frankenstein chassis (parts of the old IS and new GS.)

Ahh yes, how could I forget?

You want no AC or door handles? Well, that GT3 costs another $20k :)

You haven't seen the LC500, have you? I posted pics a while back, but I recently noticed the Frankenstein knobs on the dash hub. Right now, assuming one could get it for MSRP without giving up their firstborn or selling their body, a Cayman GT4 is the premier Porsche one should aim for. But as I said, you're probably going to spend upwards of 40K over MSRP.

I actually saw one in person a few weeks ago in black. It's a fantastic looking car IRL.

The interior is trying too hard to be like the LFA's but with leather everywhere.

$40k seems low. I've seen reports of values closer to $50k over. Creeping up towards $75-100k, if it's a rare PTS color.

Porsche crack me up but at least they back their elitism up with fun engines/driving dynamics..well they used to. With the new 718s, asking people to pay 50 grand base for a 4 cyl is kind of an unfunny joke.

Blame displacement taxes for that.

Most reports have said the new Porsche turbo-4s are fantastic. And it's not like these are Porsche's first 4 cylinders. They have a long history with them also.

The 718s are faster and more economical than the outgoing 981s.

PTS? What were your thoughts on the LC500? These interior pics are always renders so it's difficult to get a good idea of what the real one's like.

Sampling color? Porsche does that?

Indeed the performance is there...even greater. The Cayman is arguably the best all-round 'daily' Porsche right now

But it still feels wrong. Its one of those "you're right porsche, but you're still an *******" scenarios

You forget the Elise and TT. Albeit, the latter start 7 grand cheaper but it adds up fast.

Yeah, Paint-To-Sample, but it encompasses the entire Porsche Exclusive program. You can paint the cars any color from the VAG portfolio (Audi, VW, Lambo, etc) or go custom. Same with the interior. PTS even has some old classic 911 colors, like Moss Green.

Usually PTS adds a few months onto your production date, but it's pretty hard to get a PTS build slot these days. Same spiel. You have to be a VIP customer to get a PTS slot on the higher-end models, like the GT4/GT3/GT3RS/911TTS, etc.

For the GT4, PTS was only open for a few days. :(

Very rare to see Lotuses here, can't even remember the last time i saw one. Dealers carrying them are few and far between and usually have only 2 models on the lot. Majority of people seem to have given up on them. Even the Evoras which Lotus worked hard to make more comfortable for daily driving.

The TT suffers from being a typical Audi, is mostly driven by wives who option an S-tronic gearbox and call it a day.

If one were to take a specimen of sputum, such as barf, to get analyzed, they can get one of the myriad of colors available for PTS? I assume it's like Home Depot and Behr paint. I knew someone from another online community who took the mickey with that and took in a bottle of Jaegermeister, and they matched it perfectly. He ended up using it for a small portion of his den for a bar.

Haha. I think they've gotten close with this color. Peridot Metallic. It's awful

That's actually lovely. It'd only work here. BMW's M4 has a similar color, more metal flake, darker and not quite as pretty. Aesthetically center lock is nice, but it's a stupid marketing option. Nothing like the real thing at all.

The latter two don't work. I'd be interested to see that color on the upcoming TT RS. If it ever gets here. The B8 Audis benefit from darker colors that accentuate their mean mug. Strange to see them in lighter colors, aside from white. I saw a red E63 a month back that looked very out of place.

Speaking of the quad rings, where is the CD player on new Audis?

Wow. Thanks. That's a throwback to the early 90s and having a CD Changer system in your trunk, which is what I had myself on a few cars before in-dash CD became the norm. Funny you can shut off the passenger airbag in the B7? I got my CD changer then aftermarket, and would carry one of those stupid 120 CD album thingamajigs. MP3s weren't a thing then, so they were audio discs all around.

Now you can hookup your phone, insert an MP3 disc or DVD (I think this was phased out) or an SD card. Absolutely remarkable! The ~6 is due for a refresh. I was watching some videos on the S6 a week back because I'd realized Audi does funky things in choosing their car transmissions.
