With that said, I've looked at a couple of S-type Rs that are painted in what I'd call a sort of gunmetal gray color that to me looks sharp at least on that particular car.

Admittedly, what they call BRG to me isn't all that pleasant of a color-it's more or less black with just a hint of green. My MG is painted in a Jaguar color code-PPG calls it "Jaguar Racing Green" and IMO it's a great looking color(just a bit darker than the factory BRG, but very pleasing to my eye). I don't think it's part of their current color portfolio.

Thanks! This is the 3.0L V6 w/ 340hp. And, the trim is a Prestige with the Tech Package, Vision Assist Package, Comfort & Convenience Package, Activity Key, Heads Up Display, and 20" Venom Twin 5 Spoke wheels.

Nice F-Pace. I'm looking to potentially invest in one. The problem I'm facing is the dealers around here have a ton of leftover 2017 inventory and plenty of 2018's coming in but are so unwilling to budge on price.

If I went the 2018 route I'd want he Portfolio trim, but right now they seem to be very uncommon and where I do see them (far, far away) they only seem to be manufactured in white. And I'm not looking to buy a white one.

Thanks! I was in the same boat you were. Couldn't decide between a 2017 or 2018. I went the 17 route because my local dealership gave me a killer deal that I couldn't pass up. I'm sure it helped that this was the 3rd car I've purchased from them. LOL. Also, I'm glad I was able to get the V6 engine on the Prestige level trim which is no longer offered in the 18. Overall, I am super happy! It's such a fun car to drive - especially in Dynamic mode. ;-) Go for it!

Jaguar's option packaging is ridiculous as well. You can't option adaptive cruise until you get into the R Sport trim. Why is that even a restriction?!

Also, I'm glad I was able to get the V6 engine on the Prestige level trim which is no longer offered in the 18.

Mine was a couple thousand under invoice. My dealership had already marked down their 17 models by $2K, but I got more discounts on top of that. This particular car had everything I wanted as compared to any of the 18 models on the lot, so it was an easy choice for me.

I agree with you about the options. I really wanted the technology package and you can't add it until the Prestige level. I think that is odd.

I did notice that there are 18 models with the 35t option. I imagine once those are gone we will only see the 25t (2.0T, 247hp) and the 30t (2.0T, 300hp). Crazy that you have to jump to an S just to get a V6. o_O

The JLR lineup is about to be super convoluted cranking out 17 different SUVs many of which overlap.

I'm not a particuarly big fan of the Velar (or Evoke). Call me a purist but they are not representative IMO of what a Range Rover should be... granted Spen King, the creator of the original Range Rover, died being very disgusted at what the RR had become. The RR was supposed to be a utilitarian yet versatile family vehicle, not a top tier luxury vehicle and certainly not a sports car in the shell of AN SUV.

What really bothers me about the current RR's (maybe not so much the Evoke) is the obnoxious exhaust note, especially on the Supercharged V8 models. I'm not much of a fan of it on the F-pace either. The cars should be distinctive, but not calling attention to themselves.

I test drove the 2.5t and 3.5t. I'm definitely on board with the 3.5t, which is no longer being offered on the 2018's. The upgraded NAV/tech is a definite must. I'm not sure if the dynamic suspension pack is worth it- it's cheap but I'm not sure if I want to deal with it down the road (maintanence, repairs)- my brother had a Discovery II with "ACE" (hydraulic suspension control) and it had a lot of problems. Which interior did you go with? If I go the S or Portfolio trim I'd go with brown. If I go with the Prestige brown is not an option, so I would probably go with tan/black carpet but could live with black. They have some pretty gross options like grey with green stitching... who buys that?

Totally agree about the Nav/Tech upgrade! That was a deal breaker for me when I was looking. There were only two Prestige level trim vehicles that had it at my local dealership, so my options were limited. I wasn't really interested the dynamic suspension pack, so I knew I could eliminate the R Sport or S trim. Mine has the Oyster/with Jet accents interior. It's super light, but I don't have any kids, so I feel like I am pretty safe. And, I have to say coming from having black interiors in all of my previous cars, it's a really nice change.

I rarely use Cruise Control in general, so Adaptive Cruise Control wasn't an option that mattered to me, but I totally get what you are saying. So many other cars that are far less in cost have it, so why not Jaguar? As for the heated windshield + HUD, you can have both, because I do. The HUD is one of my favorite features I must say.

Will definitely let you know how the reliability fairs. Both my 2013 & 2015 RR Evoque were great! I love that I have 5 years of maintenance with my warranty on the Jag, so that helps.
 
Just spec'd out a 2018 Mustang GT Premium how I would want it with the 10 speed auto, MRC, performance pack, 401A package, and active exhaust is $50,770. That is $3K more than my Camaro 2SS cost.... And I am forced into getting those black wheels which I don't like.

I can't wait for the comparisons. Straight line performance will probably be a drivers race now with neither having the advantage. Suspect Camaro will still be the better drivers car around a road course given its better chassis.

It's about time, too, that Lincoln had a "Continental" back in the line. The past 15 years have been too much a drought and-of all things-have let "Continental" become associated more with Bentley than Lincoln.

Yeah the original Range concept was not meant to be a luxury vehicle unattainable for most. It was really supposed to bridge the gap between the Series Land Rovers- basically a tractor, with a more roadworthy vehicle. My father also owns a 1973 Series III 88" wheelbase. It's a fun ride but tops out around 60mph with an overdrive kit and is not a particuarly comfortable or safe feeling ride.

The new Range Rover and RR sport still have fairly decent off-road capabilities... if spec'ed out appropriately. Sadly a low range transfercase is no longer standard. 19-20"+ rims don't exactly help either. You can still get a rear locking diff though. The Evoke doesn't have much prowess and I doubt the Velar does either. But in reality there probably aren't a lot of people taking their $40,00-$120,000+ SUV's off road.

Yeah, the exhaust note is a bit much for me on the new JLR products. They sound like boats. I think I was confusing Volvo with the HUD and heated windshield issue- very peculiar. Heated windshields are a great feature, Land Rover has had them for years. I'm not sure why it's taken so long for that to catch on.

Now that Jag is switching to the "3.0t" as their middle class engine, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'd prefer a 6cyl over a 4cyl for reliability and smoothness (granted I haven't tested the 3.0t). In that case they're pushing me into the S model or 2017 prestige. If I was to stick to the non-S 2018's, I'm not sure I see the value in spending an extra $5000 for the 3.0t over the 2.5t. It ends up being way more expensive. And then the S ends up being $10-15k more.

In all seriousness, I was playing around with a new to me camera(Nikon D800). This was taken with a 24mm lens, or actually as much as I hate to admit it with a zoom lens at 24mm...

Earlier this year I read somewhere that it costs the marque more money to ship out base cars than fully featured ones. Custom orders make a very small percent of total sales. Loaded models pay off R&D faster even if the materials involved were simply borrowed from other cars in the stable. Regardless, Goldy is getting shafted. Jaguar dealers here will drop their pants to get a sale. They don't sell very well, the F Pace that is, the F Type sells more. It's the opposite in the NE. That said, the SQ5 is the all around great deal.

The Velar or Evoque aren't bad looking SUVs. Though they do seem like they're designed for a younger crowd. To me, they're the VW New Beetle of Land Rover.

I always thought the Evoke was the mini Cooper of SUVs... similar idea as the VW New Beetle. I like the back of the Velar, that's about it. Base price is is $50,000, but quickly rises to $70-85k.

Kind of like the "$35,000" Model 3 Tesla. I doubt they'll be producing many of them. Once you get it optioned up its more like $50-65,000"
 
Except the Evoque will be more reliable, and it's a LR to boot. I pegged the Model 3 average asking to be around 44-46K after the incentives ween out.

Your father's LR sounds super cool! I'm a fan of the brand in general and I love the history behind it.

Totally agree about people not taking the Evoque or Velar off road. They were definitely designed for the urban crowd. It's more about how it looks and, if you want to do some outdoor stuff, that's a bonus.

Even though I am in California, I absolutely use my heated windshield and I think it's a great feature! I feel like I do see them as options on a lot of cars now. This is my first experience having a HUD and I have to say it is something will want from now on. Not sure why it took me so long.

After having my V6 for a bit over a month, I am not sure I could go back to a 4 cylinder at this point, so I get what you are saying. It will be interesting to see how things go for Jaguar with this change.
 
The new GT specs are interesting. Though the new car is supposedly as fast as a base 911. The Ecoboost isn't too far behind. The new Ecoboost will be making more power than a decade old GT. Let that sink in. More value for the money. However, and being quite serious here, I suspect we'll see more hooliganism by new Mustang owners that result in the car sliding its rear onto a sidewalk.

There is still the GT Perf Package - that now can be optioned on automatics (the 10-speed), and the coupe now retains the rear wing:

Note it's totally independent from the PP, not available on convertibles (like the S550.1 PP was in MY15) and NOT available with the 10-speed.

This may wind up being something like a GT350 "lite", sounds awesome.

Whatever the case, it's good to see Ford trickling down some tech from the new GT down to the lower ranks. Similar to VAG with Lamborghini and how tech trickles down. I've yet to spot a GT in the wild.

I suspect Ford will eventually offer a 10 sp. with the 2nd pack to compete with the Camaro ZL1 with its 650 HP engine.

I had to look it up. What they're doing is basically the old style of air filters back when they used to make a steel or aluminum housing with a circular engraved pattern on top?

Such as an R model? MT apparently leaked a power figure for the GT500 a while back. Coyote engine, 680 HP with 630 TQ. If they do an R special, hopefully they can shave off 150-220 lb from the regular car and probably increase power. I don't think GT350 owners care much about the reduced value, but the R values and appreciate should hold steady.

Now this is cool. When active exhausts first came out, it used to be controlled by the car's computer system opening up the valves after a certain RPM. Then consumers were given a button so they could choose when it did that. Either automatically or fully on. And now some companies offer that but also a mode that keeps it open at all RPM. I think with BMW it's something called Sport Plus mode. And now we have this.

Getting to the point, I hope this idea gets picked up by other companies. It's a very good idea. Especially if you have sensitive neighbors.
