Wait what? Do you know what the Type-R looks like?

Whoops. Meant to write Type R. Was very tired when I posted that.

Didn't use MBZ's stock finder. I used cargurus.com; a website that tends to very accurate in my experience.

Never had a good experience with that site. Used a digital number routed to my phone once and regretted that decision. Glad I didn't use my actual number.

Not really. I ran similar searches around Beverley Hills, Palo Alto, and other high-income regions across the Northeast. Less than 20% of in-stock Mercedes-Benzes come with the leather option and other "fancy" features. The majority of E-Classes tend to be MB-Tex with the P1 package. The P3 package is quite rare.

One of those would be my dealer. As I said, what I've seen in person is very different than what they claim on their site. They'll reflect the site if you call them. If you go there in person, it's very different. Unlike a lot of car enthusiasts, I never worked at a dealer in my youth to know why they do this. Probably just to get people in. I'd say most lot cars have about 3/4ths the options. Some stuff isn't chosen because it makes no sense for the area.

You just described the average luxury car owner in every market! No need to insult Irvine residents.
Irvine consumers tend to buy for their children more often than for themselves. Irvine is also a university town, which brings in students from around the world. You're more likely to see a base Cayenne being driven by a student than a mid-load or loaded vehicle.

At the end of the day, I'm trusting what I see in person over a website like CarGurus or the MBZ finder. CG left such a bad taste in my mouth I'm never going to consider using them again or their search function. All they do is clean up search results and put them together in one easy to use place.

I will admit it's rare to see fully loaded vehicles with every option, but they do exist on lots, and sometimes a dealer can get one transferred to their dealership. That's how I bought my W211 in the day. Fully loaded model transferred from upstate. Did something similar for an Accord EX I bought at around the same time.

Did you even read the provided links?

It appears something is blocking the text on the site. It shows up in Chrome. Not so much Firefox. Didn't answer my question, though. Is this something you'd want to finally get rid of your exploding death machine due to bad airbags? :D

Diesel X5, right? Should get a nice deal on that when/if you decide to sell. Very rare to see them on this side of the country or TDIs in general.

Ha! The Golf-R seems pretty tame to me, well, at least in the "hot hatch" market.

I'll see your Golf R + APR with a Focus RS plus a stage <something-something> tune :D Actually the APR stuff is cool because it can be done through dealers, there's some kind of warranty, etc.
Meant to say Type R. I'm dead tired. Spent half of last night trying to soothe one of the kids and stop crying. That and dealing with some nasty heartburn for a couple weeks. Seeing the Doc in the morning.

I like the Golf R because it's so understated and looks like any other nicer Golf. Yeah, I'm not completely sure how strong the manual tranny is on the R, but I know the DSG can handle some stupid amount of power before breaking, and you can expand your budget to use more durable internals.

The APR stuff, I'm not completely sure how it works, but I believe it's similar to Dinan. Their warranty takes over the BMW one. Though, today's Dinan is a little different than the past.

There was a time I wanted to get a RennTech tune on my GL but when I got in touch with them, not only was the price high, which was expected, but the performance gain was meager. I never understood why but I'm going to guess it's fairly high strung for an NA engine. After the NA engines were dropped for biturbo models, the packages became more appealing.

Off topic: I doubt anyone cares, but it's funny, initially, to see a kid run and then slide, and then not be able to stop themselves while sliding, and them bump into a wall. I think we're going to find some socks with grippy stuff on the bottom for them. Before they make this into a habit. I'm almost certain it was a powerplay to get ice cream or something to make it better. They've head butted me as if we were deer and that hurts. I can't imagine bumping into a wall to be worse...

When you accidentally slather your phone with peanut butter and jam in the morning whilst the bread is out next you, you know your butt needs some sleep. Or when you keep nodding off at work and somehow three hours transpire from when you get there and lunch.

Edit: I see AU has changed his avatar to the Polestar's. Should about answer my earlier question.

Correction, I'd say CarGuru is as bad as TrueCar in terms of spam and ********.

I trust a panoramic roof about as far as I could throw one.
What I thought, too. It looks nice and the light inside during a cool day would be pleasant. I've never rolled over a car, but it does worry me. Also, the excess weight.

For some reason I thought they were framed out like the Smart's core cage. I'm guessing no?

We have an E 350 which we love, but I think my SOs father has us beat with one of his "collector's" a '68 420.

E350 Mercedes? Why is that poor Jag in the snow? :( It needs to be in a garage. Its underside clean and dry. Sweet somethings whispered to it near its headlights. Its sumptuous body lines caressed by a microfiber towel. Its leather cleaned and conditioned with a boar's hair brush.

Stupid automerge never works correctly.

Well, that makes __way__ more sense :D

Yeah, the Type-R is pretty wild, I mean, that is the design language for these hatch/rally-ish type models. Heck, the regular Civic is funky and right out of an anime (see post #8107 :) )

Even the Focus RS looks a bit sedated vs. the Type-R, though clearly it leans more that direction vs. the Golf R.

I hear you with being tired over child issues, our little G who is usually healthy and spry came down with some kind of stomach issue, was up vomiting last night, poor thing. :(

Rolling up on 25K miles on my Civic hatch. Here’s to many more!

15K-ish on mine!

Here’s the old EP3 and the new FK7, pics taken the weekend I got the new car. Both made in the same Swindon factory, too.

They say the designer who did the 2013-ish Civic mid-cycle refresh (the emergency one because the new model was universally panned as being too milquetoast) made the bosses so happy, they gave him free reign to cut loose on the 2016+ models.

I almost never open the sunroof on my car anymore. When I do, I need to wear a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes (sunglasses only do so much) and having an all-glass roof means I'd want to wear a hat inside a closed car. Meh.

That's just opinion, though. Technically, I don't know how they're supposed to be mounted to the car's frame, or even if regulations have dictated their safety requirements clearly enough. There's a few stories of certain models having their glass roofs spontaneously shatter, probably because they're not given enough margin to allow the car's frame to flex around them. I'd also rather not worry about a glass roof in a simple fender-bender that would merely buckle a steel roof.

Glass roofs are a "wow" feature, but I don't think they make any sense in the real world. If I get a Tesla, it'll have the standard steel roof.

Is your Father the original Owner? It looks like its in excellent shape. Curious to what a 1968 Jaguar 420 would sell for today in that condition.

It’s her father’s car and was restored entirely by his hands.

He brought it out to actually take that picture. It has a home 98% of the time.

Edit: Another picture on a better day in the UK.

I recently had a chance to test drive a 2018 Honda Accord EX sedan with the 1.5-liter 195 bhp (145 kW) engine and CVT automatic. It's actually a surprisingly fun car to drive, with really good handling and a reasonably peppy engine (0-60 mph is about 7.1 seconds). Would actually consider one if the price wasn't around US$29,000 "out the door."

^^Yeah, it's really not surprising Honda is struggling to sell them. The Accord is a great car but it's getting outrageously expensive.

It's a shame they're struggling to sell them because the Accord sounds like a fantastic car on paper. The styling isn't that nice, but when has that ever stopped people from buying Hondas?

To be honest, Honda (and Toyota) have earned the right to charge more for their products. The Korean and Nissan competitiors are sub-standard.

The Accord is also bordering on becoming a full size car vs its traditional mid-size role. And full size cars aren't doing too well.

This is still at least 2 years down the road, but I am looking into a Subaru Forester as a DD.

I don't like the new Accord touring 19" low profile tires. It's not a sports car, so why is this a good idea? They look super vulnerable to curb rash and are probably noisier too. 18" would have been perfect.

I like the Camry much more than the Accord. It does fall flat in some areas such as lack of anything but Entune and the grille. Also, it appears I forgot a video review I watched back in November on the Accord. some models do come with a 10 speed auto. The Sport, the EX-L and the Touring come with the 10 speed. Sweet spot for the money would probably be the Sport. EX-L is great if you're out of university and want something premium-esque without paying the premium price tag. The Touring offers a ton of stuff for the price. So 33K isn't too harsh. Plus, that sweet Japanese resale.

Not that I know much about human psychology, but I imagine people, and by that I mean general consumers, care more about the buzz word than the facts. People still buy the Civic by the millions and that thing is huge compared to a 2000 Civic or older.

You could probably downgrade if you wanted to. I don't think the wheel setup matters much and won't affect the electric damping stuff.

I thought the same thing when I purchased my SHO which has 20 inch wheels with Michelin low profile tires. With the sound deadening materials built into the vehicle, I barely hear any road noise at all. It’s unbelievably quiet inside the cabin, which has to be one of my most underrated favorite features about that car. I can’t attest to the Accord in that scenario.

Just got done watching a few videos on the Jaguar I-Pace. Any idea how the market will react to it? From the very limited angles, I like the rear-end, not so much the front end with the fake intakes. Hopefully production models will make use of intakes to cool the heatsink or whatever is attached to the battery cooling system. Interior looks quite lovely compared to a Tesla, but it isn't exactly $70,000 starting lovely. More like $40,000 premium interior. But, again, not production ready yet.

I'm more interested in what the Mission E will bring. Just want clarification on one thing. These tax credits, does each company get the same to issue at their own discretion if the car won't be registered in the US? I know Teslas been concentrating on exporting vehicles versus for the domestic market to extend their tax credits, but I'm not completely sure how it works for other marques. I'm curious to see the buy/lease rates once tax credits for a company are exhausted. Some states also offer tax credits atop federal tax credits which makes it a sweet deal, but it's a large difference in price, and may turn people away from investing in their first EV (or second; third) once the price becomes what you end up paying.

I firmly believe the I-Pace won't suffer the issues Tesla suffers in terms of fit and finish, and probably using a more mature software. Though I wonder if Jag's historic reliability will show up. That and Jaguar doesn't need to start a round of funding every other month to get things going and keep the lights on. And their leadership isn't full of themselves.

Magna Steyr will be making the iPace, so we shouldn't be seeing any fit/finish issues.

They make the G Wagon, G30 5 series, and the Epace already.

I love how they think I hate Tesla, even though we discuss quality issues from other brands all the time.
