I actually never watched the movie [Bullitt] with Steve McQueen. I know there is a very strong nostalgia and following for some who really do appreciate the movie, but I think the Bullitt Mustang has some unique history behind it. I think it’s interesting that Ford revived the Mustang Bullitt, its a great looking car, but Oddly enough the only feature(s) I really like about the new 2019 Mustang Bullitt, is the Highland green color, Grill and its low key profile, but I believe *some* of the earlier Vin numbers will have some collectibility behind it in the future.

Interesting though, Jay Leno actually got to drive the original 1968 Bullitt Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in the movie.
I walked into Bullitt oblivious to what was in store and besides being a good detective movie had 3 chase sequences as I recall, only one involved cars. The Mustang-Charger chase blew me away. No other chase scene (that I’ve seen) has been as good although The French Connection tried, and the opening sequence of Quantum of Solace is worthy! Impressively good, choreographed chase.

All good car scenes. I also like the Italian job (original) for fun car scenes.

Yes, a car enthusiast not having seen Bullitt seems impossible :D Another huge thumbs up for Ronin, and since someone mentioned The French Connection, I'd also recommend Friedkin's (director) film, To Live and Die in L.A. which also has an incredible chase scene (and it's a terrific movie, modern noir crime).

After nearly a year, I decided to let go of F36 440i Gran Coupe and opt for a G01 X3 xDrive30i.

The 440i is a great car for today standards (not going to compare it to BMW's of old) and if it was under the right circumstances, it would be a nice BMW to keep but I'm at a stage where I want to drive as many vehicles as possible. The X3 is next and after that I have plans to get a G02 X4, G20 3er and G05 X5. It's going to be a fun and interesting next few years and I'm really excited!

How fat was the termination fee?

Assuming this was geared (no pun intended!) towards me, no termination fee. Got someone to take over my lease. He was paying over $1,100 for his lease that is currently ending and saw my monthly payment was significantly less and it was almost a no brainer for him so it was quick and easy.

Oh, nice! I didn't know you could do that in Canada. Thought it was a US thing only. The new G 3er is really interesting, especially if the power figures for the M340i/M345i are to be believed. I can't imagine what the M Performance and Sound Kit will add, let alone what the true M division version will be like. I want to like the X4, but it's too garish. And, I know I jokingly pushed Goldy to get it. Though the X3 M is a sweet little SUV. The 2019 model gets a minor refresh and sounds even better. BMW did well on the B58 powerplant.

If you're a BMW fan, there are a lot of things to get excited for and a lot to look forward to - I'm one of them and as much as I wanted to keep the 440i Gran Coupe, I knew if I didn't get rid of it now, it would be a look harder to unload it when all the incentives and discounts would be available towards the end of production.

Once I test drove all variants of the X3, I was instantly hooked and I knew it was a vehicle I could drive as a daily - it's that good of a SUV and significantly better than it's predecessor. As good as the B58 engine is, I'm looking at X3 30i vs. the M40i. I just don't need the performance and all the sounds and pops of M40i in a SUV.

I'm a fan of some of the older BMWs that had more mechanical handling rather than electrical, and of course, in stick. Even now the newer ones have that amazing planted on all four feeling. You could take an old rusty E30 up to its top speed and drive with confidence. It's not Porsche planted feeling and handling, but it's something else.

If I could put up with the headache, give me a bitchin' old sharknose with a bored out engine and stick. Cream leather interior. Nothing in life could be better.

Some of us don’t like old movies

In All honesty, I actually had to Google ‘Ronin’, because I have never heard of it. But just because of you Zenithal, I plan on watching both on my ‘to do list’.

Speaking of ‘car movies’, two movies that I have watched that I liked, one was a 1983 car movie ‘Christine’ surrounding the Plymouth Fury and the other car movie that was one of my favorites (Of all Time) in the most current period would be ‘Drive’ with Ryan Gosling, which has some spectacular car scene/chases with various muscle cars throughout the film used. [Brilliantly directed by Nicolas Winding Refn].

1. I’m done with expensive cars. I don’t drive much...just a short work commute and to the market...and grown tired of the $1000 servicings.

2. My former wife has the Jeep and Mercedes; the MBNZ was a chick car anyway.

3. I got sent to a domestic beef at a gas station (back in the 90’s?). As I arrived I found two cars parked side-by-side in an isolated corner of the lot and some guy who was flippin’ lit up screaming and waving his hands and a woman standing between the cars holding her face with both hands weeping.

He had parked his super fancy Mustang (during his shouts said it was valued at $175k) in the most obscure place in the lot to run inside the gas station to buy something. In the meanwhile the lady pulled into the lot and for some inexplicable reason parked directly beside him and threw her door and gave him a nasty door ding. She had 2 acres of open lot to park in but was drawn to his car like a moth to a flame. I have know idea why she parked there but it took everything I had not to laugh. But I was wearing a crooked smile.

I can't say I blame the guy for doing what he did. I certainly have the same reaction inside my head as he let lose externally whenever someone parks next to my Camaro despite parking it in the middle of Siberia. Just yesterday getting back from a trip and in the employee lot I come back to an Accord parked next to my Camaro despite there being plenty of spots around, but that person decided to park next to my car. No damage or anything, but I certainly want to know what goes through peoples heads when they decide to do this. It's not like I parked like a jerk over the lines, taking up two spots, etc like some people do. I parked normally, just far away from everyone else.

I also would not know how I would react if I caught someone negligently banging their door into my car. Like I said, I inside my head I would let lose on the person. But I am a non-confrontational type of person so who knows how I would react externally.

I know, it’s just absurd! Gravity, I guess?

It's somewhat understandable if someone parked their nice car next to mine. I can at least guess they did it in a two way protection method. They know I won't damage their car and they won't damage mine so they are protecting their car and my car from idiots.

That is how I justify it in my head at least because I have also seen people with nice cars that don't give a crap about them either. :(

Remember how I was complaining how the Mustang GT PP2 lacked auxiliary coolers? Just read Road&Tracks review of the vehicle. In typical Ford fashion, it’s made for magazine lap times and that’s it. It can’t sustain the performance over a track session because it will overheat. Road and track suffered from an overheating rear axle. Despite all the hype surrounding it during the unveiling, Ford somewhat back tracked in the article saying it’s not meant to be a SS 1LE competitor. And while claiming they didn’t cripple the PP2 to protect the GT350 performance wise, certainly crippled its track capability to protect the GT350. Basically it’s a car that has a lot of potential that can’t be used in a safe environment( a track) because Ford designed it to be a street car and didn’t want to give it track capability.

Don’t recall if I mentioned this in the past, but a fellow who owns the company that produces a key piece of software for us, is very much into cars. He’s particularly fond of italian iron, such as Lamborghini and Ferrari.

But, when we were talking about cars and I mentioned that I might be looking for a newer ride, he said I absolutely needed to drive an S550 MB. He had an 08 or 09 he’d picked up for around $20k, and loved it. Practically waxed poetic.
He later sold it and bought a 12 for around $30K.

I had no idea these cars depreciated so much. And we’re not talking crazy high mileage, either.
My guess is most of them have been gently used, and are really nice to drive.

Maintenance may be another matter.

Anyway, I declined, as I just don’t see myself behind the wheel of a Benz.
I still have a saved S550 search on AutoTrader, though...

Dodgy car park? Take the wife's Kia!

Dash cam should help with this as it has a parking mode. I'll see how it goes!

I have been wanting to invest in a dash cam actually for a while now for my personal vehicle. I think the benefits are obviously for accident reconstruction and insurance evaluations to help determine fault. Law Enforcment and Insurance companies just *love* cars that have them equipped, and there is a multitude of affordable options on Amazon. (Yesterday was Prime day, I was keeping watch if I could find a sale being a Prime member.)

They have decent video quality, night mode, audio, some are small and discreet enough that they are not an obstruction in the windshield, [although some state laws may have limitations with mounting.]

One downside with these cameras, is that it’s a target for criminals to steal them or break into cars. But the remedy would just be take the camera down, even though that would be annoying, it’s just like anything else in your car, keep out of view from where someone could see it when you leave your vehicle. Altogether, its on my list to Purchase, just need to research more on tech specifics.

In just going by YouTube, Russia looks to be the dash cam capital of the world. I used to laugh at street cam video of busy Mumbai intersections (cars, motorcycles, motor scooters, buses, trucks, herds of sheep, and flaming rickshaws all weaving through each other), but the crazy Russian drivers....wow. Then at intersections the fights are on like a hockey match.

I think it's getting to be less of a problem. I've gone for one of the smaller models so it shouldn't be too noticeable.
Also I rarely leave my car on a street.

A guy I know has created a screen saver of crazy car moments he has shot with his. He's a sales rep, so does the miles.

I picked up a dash cam a year or two ago, mainly for use in my work vehicle, to record some of the truly weird stuff I’ve seen driving around the rural South.

A particularly memorable event - the one that motivated me to actually order a dash cam - was the time I came upon a venue of Turkey Vultures enjoying a roadside repast. Upon my approach, they took flight. One of them, apparently feeling a bit too heavy for proper takeoff, vomited copiously starting at about six feet AGL, not all that far in front of my vehicle.

At first I had no idea what was happening. I first thought “poop” as the stuff was dark - except that it was coming out of the front end of the bird. Momentarily confused, my next impression was of one of those water sculptures, where a pulsed, cylindrical jet of water comes out of the ground, heading skyward, and curves gently back to earth. Except this was going forward and curving downward. But the effect was eerily similar. It was, I then realized, ejecting the contents of its upper digestive tract to more effectively gain altitude and thereby get away from my approaching vehicle.
The very next thought was that I most certainly did not want any of that on my vehicle. Seriously. So I immediately slowed, and the now-lightened bird left the scene.

Once past what I imagined to be the steaming mess, I actually pulled over for a few minutes to compose myself.

Video would have been so much better. Haven’t seen anything like it since.
But now I’m ready.
