My new project car: A 1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo. Sure it's not a Shelby GLHS, but it will be a lot better when I'm done with it. It's like a mid 80s VW GTI, but a lot better.

I kinda hate to tear into it with it being so damn original and unmolested, but I have my choice of Lotus or Maserati DOHC engine swaps to make it a terror on the street. FWD, but only about 2400 lbs.

I've owned a GLH Omni and MkI and MkII GTI's the only aspect the Omni is better at is it's quicker. Now 20 odd years later if I were to re-buy one it would be the GLH simply because it's far more unique.

Fun, yeah, I enjoyed your other 2.2L project you posted about (if you recall, I was a 2.2L Turbo owner in the 80s :D)

I love the VWs too. My first car was a Omni GLH (non turbo) that I got from my older brother. He bought a new GTI last year. I'd love to get a VR6 Corrado someday personally, but too many projects as it is.

For turbo Mopars, I have:
'86 Omni GLH Turbo
'87 Shelby Lancer
'91 Spirit R/T
'08 Caliber SRT-4 (daily driver)

I actually like building the engines more than building cars anymore. Sort of an extension of building model cars as a kid I suppose. Pic is a couple Chrysler "Turbo III" engines I built. Chrysler short block, with Lotus DOHC top end.

Wow. I haven't seen one of those little Dodges since the late 90s. I definitely remember those being neat project cars for people. I vaguely remember them being exported for use in amateur rally.

The Caliber SRT is a hoot. 285 HP stock and a 6-speed (FWD though). I have the Mopar Stage I ecu which puts it at about 300. The utility of the car is great though, and a great road tripper. I can fit 3x5 sheets of Durock, a tile saw, loads of tools in the hatch no problem.

It is a challenge to get my older cars to keep up with it though. It's an animal at wot.

Caliber and Magnum were such strange looking cars for their time. The Neon SRT was an odd little car from Dodge. Small car. Light. Lot of power. I sometimes wonder how many of those were related in fatal crashes.

Looks like a Nice side project:

I remember the Caliber SRT-4, they were quick (More so Over the Srt-Neon)/2.4 Turbo DOHC, rare to see and short lived. Basically, a much more potent variant to what the Dodge Neon was for the SRT-4 version from 2003-2005. I see quite a few ‘Neon’ Srt-4’s Around, Throaty exhaust for being stock. I only knew of one Caliber Srt-4 Owner who manages an auto shop in my city, which he sold for a new Gen SHO.

Stock photo: For a sports hatchback, not a bad looking car for its time.

my neighbor has a nice car he is forced to park next ot his house on the streets of Gotham City. The neighborhood is having a rash of petty crime and again the local GCPD (Gotham City Police Department) is stymie what to do. Last night a Honda Civic was stolen!

recommend a SIMPLE car alarm:
an self contained alarm, battery driven, that is an IR motion detector for the car interior. The car windows would be rolled up and doors locked. Once triggered the alarm would beep inside the house via a RF link. An old fashion radio link would work or a Nest or Wink hub.

How about a dash cam? Mine sends me notifications if there is an event whilst parked.

Had the Continental Premium Continental 6 fitted today. Difference between my old Dunlop’s is night and day.

Looking forward to giving them a ‘proper’ test on some country roads tomorrow.

Here's mine from the day I bought it new. I don't have a commute, so I still only have about 54k miles on it. I have a bunch of aftermarket upgrades for it (intake, exhaust, bov, s2 ecu yada yada), but haven't installed anything other than the Mopar S1 ecu. It's my daily driver and I'm just too into tinkering with my 'old' stuff I guess. I'll probably have the car forever.

Nice. And its so clean. 54,000 is hardly anything for that year, especially for a daily driver. I Always am fond of ‘One off’ cars that were short lived, more exclusivity and makes it a good discussion piece for Mopar fans. The shop owner I knew that owned his, mentioned the torque steer was all over the place, which made for an interesting ride. But still, A Turbo-charged Caliber that most have not heard of that can no one see’s coming on the road? I love sleepers.

so tonight was fun. I was able to squeeze in an appointment to install a europipe exhaust on my turbo s just in time for rennsport on Thursday. I needed to fill up the gas tank for my 40 mile trip to the shop tomorrow. well, on my last venture on Saturday, I left the lights on and killed the battery. not knowing I inserted the key and tried to start the engine. obviously, nothing happened and the key got stuck in the ignition. also, the hood which needs to be activated by an electric switch in the car or by the remote has not effect. thankfully, there is a work around where you can jump the hood switch via the fuse box. I first try this with a battery charger with a 50 amp jump start mode to no avail. I then proceed to jump it with my wife's SQ5. partial success! key unlocks and I am able to open the hood. I then try to actually jump the car connecting to the battery, but I am unsuccessful. I rush to my nearest pep boys (it's almost closing time) and thankfully they have a replacement battery in stock. finally, I get everything re-installed and all is well, but what a waste of an evening. LOL.

Just bought right before Florence hit a 2019 Honda Insight EX. We love it. 245 miles and it used 3.8 gallons. It’s a great car. Def research it if you want a good DD and great MPG. (55 city).
Beautiful. I have the same color and trim but with the black interior. Got it in July and still has the new car smell! Love this car!!!

The gamification of fuel efficiency is great for this nerd.

Saw this model in person few months ago. I think the regular CLS looks much nicer.
Likewise. I predict it'll be dropped after a few years.

It's supposed to compete with the Panamera (and whatever BMW's offering is) but it faces the same issue of the Panamera's first gen design. That and while it's a MBZ performance car in four door with slick roof, it's simply no match for Porsche's aesthetic. The Porsche will cost more, obviously, but you get so much more in the long run over the MBZ.

Spied Image Of the new EV Ford Explorer Utility. Will be able to test drive it soon. Exterior wise, it looks a lot of the same, obvious changes with the grill and headlights. But the real highlight will be driving this new drive train and how the electric response is in a AWD system. Although I do have my doubts will be as spirited as the TT 3.5 eco-boost. But the efficiency is key here, especially with long idle times and the amount of turnover these vehicles have on a given week in a shift rotation.

My Biggest question is, does this release to the consumer or does L.E. have exclusivity first to this. From what I have heard, its geared priority being first to the L.E. sector.

From the rear, it doesn’t appear much has changed. The downside to the Utility Explorer is the blind spots, especially from back. Ford allegedly is adding blind spot monitoring. [Which in a safety vehicle, I’m surprised they didn’t add this years back.]
