OK, I'll bite I guess. I like cars with an engine all the way in the back. It just works for me (I'm extremely comfortable with drive-by-throttle and lift-off oversteer).

My collector car: 1968 VW Beetle. 3-season driver and Auto-X car.
My daily driver: 1976 Porsche 912E. 4-season driver, Auto-X and Ice-X car.

Updated list 03/07/19:

1.) 2017 GT350

2.) 18/19 Charger Scat Pack SRT

3.) 2018 Mustang GT/10 Speed/ (Orange Fury or Race Red).

Corvette Stingray (2016)

Chevy SS (2017)

Edit:

The Chevy SS and Corvette Stingray are out.

The Chevy SS given the inflation, lack of manual and it’s not considering taxes/registration/title and the destination fee, alone totals to $6,000 on top of the price.

The Corvette actually sold to someone else, The price/mileage and overall condition sold that car easily.

So,

I’m adding one last option to the list, which brings me into total of three cars that I’m now hopefully finalizing soon:

1.) 2017 GT350 (Shadow black)

2.) 2018 Charger Scat Pack (Unknown color)

3.) 2018 Mustang GT/10 Speed/ (Orange Fury or Race Red).

[I really like the redesign for the 2018 year for the Mustang with the hood, headlights, and if I opt for this car, it would only be the 10 speed for that reason alone. The only thing I don’t like about the Mustang GT‘s, are the hideous wheels that Ford uses, which I would have to use some type of decent aftermarket wheel, sell the OEMs to off-set the cost. I’m still not sure if I want to own two Mustangs, but the thought is there. ]

Hopefully/finally test driving a ‘Scat’ on Friday, to move forward and know if that still is an option or not.

(I do like the ‘Orange Fury’ color a lot, specifically in this picture, you can see how the orange transcends somewhat from the hood to the side passenger door, it looks darker.)

I just discovered this thread and don't know exactly what your criteria are, but if you are interested in handling, the modern Mustangs handle very well right out of the box, and incredibly well with nothing but an upgraded set of tires. I mean, really, shockingly well. Ford has done a great job there. From what I've seen, the Charger handles well "for a muscle car" but isn't remotely close to what the Mustang offers in this area. I've watched a LOT of these things go around autocross courses over the past few years, and that's my observation, for whatever it is worth.

have you tried autox your self? they allow anything (that passes their inspection) on the course. Its all about what class you wind up in and of course the times/points.

Hard choice between the V8 of the GT350 and that orange GT. I think you'll get more enjoyment out of the GT350. Plus, you can get an orange wrap for it.

Scat Pack Test-Drive Performance overview:

Finally had a chance to drive a Scat, and to be perfectly honest, I’m glad I did, aside from the GT 350 and/or the 18/19 GT in Orange Fury or Race Red.

My thoughts of the Scat, overall, I think the car looks great and I would say this particular model is completely underrated. It’s factory lowered, 20” wheels, Brembo’s, Bilstein sport -tuned suspension, 3.09 A-R, probably one of the best sounding stock exhaust I’ve come across, for those who don’t know, it’s a 6.4 L V8 tuned by the -SRT- team of Dodge and it has the eight speed torque flight transmission with manual operability via paddles and shifter control. The Model I looked at, was $44,000.

Overall, I’ll try to keep this overview on driving the experience only, but I really enjoyed this ride for everything it had to offer. I think Dodge did an excellent job in terms of making a four-door sedan that is ridiculously powerful and had me laughing with excitement driving this around the city. When I was merging onto the highway, I didn’t even floor the pedal, and it threw me back in my seat, which I was not really expecting that type of response. The shifts are precise and has razor sharp throttle response. (Even more so over my GT). For being a heavier sedan, it handles fairly well, [I didn’t have the chance to take it around any corners], the braking is immediate with the Brembos.

What’s interesting, is the fuel mileage on the Scat is 15/25, almost identical to the 5.7 hemi in the RT model.

There are a lot of positive things I want to touch on in terms of the interior, Sound system, exterior styling, U-connect 8.4 display, so many little minuscule touches that Dodge executed that really stood out to me over other performance cars that I’ve owned over the years. If I decide to purchase this specific car, I will go further into detail about that. But if someone had the money to upgrade from the 5.7 RT to the 6.4 Scat, by all means, the Scat is the clear winner in every facet, which the SRT team did an outstanding job in the performance aspects.

Lastly, Of all the test drives I have had over the years, [And I have had quite a few of them], this one left me thinking about my decision moving forward, and left me wanting more, which really says something, and I’m also not your ‘average car enthusiast’ either to say something like that.

I’m thinking my next Charger could well be be a lightly-used Scat (if such a thing exists) if I can find one equipped to my liking. Interesting that it achieves the same gas mileage as the R/T, even if it is with premium fuel.

I had been thinking that the Hellcat would be the way to go, and even test drove one. But the Scat (or SRT) is probably more sensible. Sounds like it has plenty of go. I look forward to hearing more about your impressions of the car, especially if you decide to buy it.

Guess at some point I’ll have to take one for a test drive.
