That was actually where I started, lots of folks using them on a couple of car sites I frequent - I actually like the physical design a little better vs. the NextBase - the latter are almost like GoPros, and (as you obv. know), the BlackVue are like cylinders, that seem like they'd tuck up and be out of view a little better (in terms of a would be thief seeing it ...)

One guy I saw made like a custom extension, so like the black plastic box where the lights, switches, etc., mount on the front part of the roof, so his is completely hidden. Pretty slick.
Mine is completely hidden from where I sit as it’s behind the rearview mirror. But I can see how it would be an issue for a convertible owner. Not really needed in the Uk!

I looked into the BlackVue, years ago, and liked it! But, the reviews in relation to heat, was 50/50. And, living in Georgia, I had to make sure that was a factor that I considered. Hence, I went with Garmin, which at the time seemed to offer the best option for hot locations...

Pretty happy with my BlackVue dashcams. Went with front and rear set as it’s the only way to be covered in an accident.

Well not too many days that’s going to be an issue here. It is a nice toasty 24 today though!

So on the bright side, there are some ‘car shows‘ being reinstated with the economy opening back up. But with a few restrictions, [No swap meets, cars have to be spaced at least 12 feet apart, no congregating more than six people when spectating and no food/beverages can be served.]To be honest, I don’t think any of those rules are strict, However what I like most about car shows, really isn’t so much ‘attending‘ the car show, but the pre-prep process having my cars ready for a show. To me, nothing screams pride in what you drive when you have a car that’s immaculately detailed/well-managed. I will miss the memorial day show this Monday, (it’s supposed to be 85° and raining.) But I will have the SHO ready for the next one in June, as I’m Bringin’ her home on Tuesday.😁

I like to keep my car clean and detailed as well. Trouble is it’s had to take a bit of a back seat with all the renovations. Apart from the time I’ve also had to use my car to collect items from storage and dispose of boxes etc. Going to give it a good clean this weekend if the weather behaves.

Of course, there's ceramic pads which are just a simple pad difference vs. CCB (carbon ceramic brakes), the latter are insanely high performance with a price tag to match (~$8K on some Porsche models)

Saw these in a group buy discussion, and I remembered we were talking about "ceramic brake upgrades", which are just pads that don't dust as much. This is an actual carbon ceramic brake upgrade for the GT500:

4 rotors ... $13,600.00 :D

Unfortunately, had to let this one go after not really having time to do anything with it.

It's going to a good home with the know-how and motivation to get it back on the road.

BTW, they also took a bunch of spare MG parts I needed to move(my MG mechanic is taking it in trade for work). I guess I'm just proving how weak I am-I had a spare short block sitting there, which is in the ballpark of 350lbs. I never try to move one without a hoist, but I watched the two guys who came for the car reach down and grab the that engine like it was nothing...

Also, getting it on the dolly was...fun...the rear brakes are out completely(fronts work great) and the shift linkage decided to pop loose again while we were moving it around. I climbed under it and stuck it in neutral by the lever on the side of the transmission, but with the front wheels on the dolly and no good way to get it in park or put the handbrake on, it was a bit iffy once the front wheels were on the ramps. We shoved it up the ramp but couldn't get the wheels into the cradle. My cheap plastic wheel chocks weren't up to the job, so we ended improvising chocks with jack stands(that's the scrapes on the pavement) and also two of us standing behind and pushing forward while one guy backed the truck/dolly up. All done, though, it was loaded and gone, and I can concentrate on getting the MG in tip top shape.

Is that a Morris Marina?

It's not a Morris Marina :)

In any case, I stopped by the shop today to check on the MG, and it's not good news. They'd pulled the oil pan and head off...the pan was full of shavings and there's visible side-to-side play in 3 of the 4 cylinders.

Also, I'm rather...unhappy...about the head I bought a few years ago and have been running. It has a crack between cylinders 2 and 3, so it's junk now. More importantly, though, it seems part of the issue I'd had all along was that the valve seats were cut too deep. That explains why I had to shim the rocker pedestals initially.

So, I'm looking at boring, pistons, and possibly a handful of other odds and ends. On one hand, I'm sorry to have to dig this deep into it, but I know I'll like the results when it's done.

Delay with the SHO delivery, flooded streets from heavy rainfall and I didn’t want to risk driving it in that, Saturday will be the day!

In the meantime, this was some fun & interesting marketing when the SHO first launched, this video was filmed with NASCAR driver Carl Edwards driving the SHO to the track and ‘pushing its limits‘ with some of the Ford engineers behind the implementation of the SHO.

Pretty impressive stuff what it’s capable of, and this is stock BTW: [Fast forward to the 34 second mark for track demos.]

MGB engine rebuild is hopefully coming together.

I talked to a friend up in PA who is going to get me a head with a street port and polish for a reasonable price, and he can get it done faster than I can have a head done(surfacing, hardened seats, etc) locally.

I'm stopping by the shop today to get the cam so I can send it off for a regrind.

I'm skipping the Chinese rods now in favor of much less expensive late MGB straight-cut rods, which still drop ~250g each from my current set up(they are heavier than the Chinese rods, but somewhat offset by using late style pistons that are lighter).

The only thing left is to get a shop lined up to bore the block, the of course order pistons and bearings based on that.

Well, there you have it. I just made my FIRST Steeda purchase.
- 555 0697 Steeda Mustang Trunk Pop Kit, Large

PS: There better be a sticker in the packaging :)

I don’t think I’ve seen a pic of your Mustang yet, but I’m sure you have peppered one somewhere. What color is yours?

Watching some Barrett-Jackson footage in Scottsdale. I said it last year, I will be participating/attending one day as a Bidder.

^ Posted two years ago....

So assuming the world doesn’t end anytime soon😁, it looks like I’ll be attending Barrett Jackson for the first time as a bidder [and] spectator in January 2021. Just spoke with a fellow colleague to register for both of us attending. Currently, everything is tentatively scheduled to go on. Being that I didn’t use my travel vacations this summer due to C/19, I have quite a bit of vacation rolling over into 2021, and I am absolutely stoked, as this has been a long time goal.

If I come back with a ride, (Actually, I will have it shipped back), it looks like I will have to utilize offsite storage, as I don’t have the garage space anymore.

Up-dated the family wagon a couple of weeks back. You can just about see the old E61 BMW wagon behind the new (to us: 2nd hand) VW Passat GTE. I really wanted to wait to get a full EV but the BMW is now 13 years old and is really starting to feel it. So we had to go for a PHEV. Can do 25-30 miles on battery which covers the vast majority of our milage. Got a proper EV charger ordered for fitting soon.

Enjoying having CarPlay and a fancy all-screen dash. EV mode is a revelation. Loving the silent and smooth feel

I don’t usually purchase ‘As seen on TV’ products, this one is exceptionally reviewed on Amazon (Over 8k reviews) with ‘Shine Armor’. You can apply it to paint, wheels, windows, and not also does it give a protective layer, but a really nice shine that repels water/dirt. It’s pricey though, at $20. But I’ve really been impressed with how universal it is on almost anything. [And one thing I really like, is the ‘spritz nozzle’, it doesn’t stream the solution, it mists it evenly across the microfiber towel, you can apply the product much more thoroughly that way.]

Car does indeed look very shiny. Shame there is not a similar product to quickly sort out the road! That is a lot of cracking

Couldn’t you just swap it?

The issue here is that I paid good money($700) for this a few years ago, and the guy who did it who supposedly knew what he was doing did a bunch of shortcuts that I'm only just now finding. He cut the snot out of the intake seats and ground down/reused old valves(which are like $5 each anyway). The exhaust seats were cut too deep also, but the intakes were cut even deeper. All of that just took out too much metal, and was what likely caused the 2-3 crack I showed.

I have a street ported and polished head on its way from someone who's actually KNOWN in the MG community for providing quality stuff-not a fly by night amateur that I thought I could trust based on a high post count. The difference in cost isn't staggering, either, so I should have just done that in the first place.

Yikes, yeah, that looks like some really sketchy headwork, and reusing the valves is just a violation of hot rodding 101. Are the bare heads just basically worthless now?

With the crack, yeah it's junk. If it were a super rare head, it MIGHT be worth having someone try to weld it up, but the the number of people who would even be willing to try to weld cast iron in that particular spot(especially with as much nickel as British cast iron usually has) is vanishingly small and there's no guarantee that it would actually fix it.

If it were a rare casting or had something else special, it might be worth it. I can buy the core stripped and magnafluxed for $200-300 all day though, and probably $100 as a clean pull(rolling the dice that it won't be cracked). So, with that in mind, it's not worth it.

I've been told that the valve diameter on these is such that the intake almost always should be cut and have a seat fitted even though it's not strictly needed(fuel keeps the intakes cool enough that they're fine against a plain cast iron seat cut directly into the head). Doing that, though, will usually end up with the seats overlapping which isn't a huge deal but takes some work to blend properly.

The ported and polished replacement is supposed to be on its way tomorrow, so I'll post pictures of it when it arrives.
