* anyone interested in an 82 Fiat Spider? :)

Fortunately so far, no hassle getting a free replacement other than sitting on the phone for 45 minutes, but it’s a little shocking this material can break down so fast sitting in the weather, mostly sun for just 18 months.

Huntn, you’re doing something wrong, as you’ve had this car for sale for almost three years.😁

So here’s what I would do. I don’t know the net worth of what your Fiat is and I’m sure it’s probably a fairly low number given it’s sitting outside and probably not a very desirable car (I’m not knocking the car, just giving my anecdotal feedback). But your best option I would think is maybe put it on eBay motors, (you pay a fee ranging from $25-$95 based on the chosen package), you have the option of a ‘buy it now price‘ or starting bid, You have a very broad range audience that may be interested in your specific car, which the buyer would be responsible for local pick up or transporting. If you have extensive photos, A detailed description and any paper trail documentation of the car, you’d be surprised the people that would be appeal to.

If you’re just in the market to sell it for the sake of selling it and you’re not worried about ‘top dollar’, then maybe I would put it up for starting bid to see what it goes for. If you have a certain dollar amount you want to walk away with, then I would probably have it appraised, and maybe even consider a local consignment center they could assist you to sell it (Which Usually they will charge you 5 to 7% of the net sale of the vehicle what they keep), because you certainly are having very little success over the course of three years trying to sell it, Then again, I’m not sure how aggressive you’re being with this car.

Also, there’s another site known and ‘bring a trailer.com’ (BaT), I’m not sure if your car would qualify to be registered on this site or not based on the condition and known history of the vehicle, but it’s an auction site with a seven day duration. (There’s also craigslist, but I think that website is garbage.) otherwise, if you have social media, Facebook marketplace has an ‘auto option‘ for local sale that’s free.

Anyways, there’s plenty of avenues for you to sell your car, but you probably have to be more aggressive than putting just on Macrumors about it.

If you price it appropriately for what it’s worth and are open to offers for those who may not exactly meet your specific price point, you should be able to sell it with the right tactics.

I’m so tempted but but part of me is now like it’s ok ?. I’m so annoyed with myself, I guess the chase was more fun. But then again it’s an Audi quattro ?? and I can tell my wife Bold fire up the Quattro ?

Initial thoughts: It is pretty fun to drive. It’s not quite the beast the S4 was (it tends to roll a bit in faster corners), it’s as fast zero to 60(ish) and the torque is really strange feeling for sure. The regenerative braking takes some getting used to; in standard mode the thing doesn’t coast at all. The brake hold on stops are amazing.

I went off the recommendation of several youtubers and got the white interior and it is stunning. The app is great and I never really considered the advantages of keeping an electric vehicle, like being able to set the climate control before I head out.

I only have standard autopilot, which is awesome and better than anything I had tried prior. The benefits of the added stuff is definitely not worth the high price tag for a car I don’t think I’ll keep for more than 3-4 years. Got a software update last night so now the thing reads speed limit signs.

On the initial negatives: The build quality is okay. There is one panel that is a bit misaligned, but it’s not all that noticeable. It doesn’t have cross traffic detection when backing up, but I can live with that. The software has some hoops you have to jump through to get things like YouTube working properly.

I’m not a fanboy in any sense. i still have some concerns about owning the Tesla.

After paint protection, my wife and I are going to take the car on a road trip to see how that goes.

As in something like this? This model year sold for $40,000, which it must be sought after.

Indeed, another 80s icon :) Very special cars, been waiting for a long time for the right one...We will see how this week ends. Lockdown is looming again in the UK so it would be handy to have another 'project' as my daughters Golf MK2 GTI is finished...

Life is short, cars are my passion and I don’t hesitate if I want it. If you have the financial means and opportunity, I say do it and let us know! Plus, your golden, as your wife already approved as mentioned.

As a child of the 80’s it was a dream car of mine too along with the Peugeot 205 GTi and Lancia Delta.

Does anybody else worry that with the push now for electric cars, we’ll no longer be driving cars with manual gearboxes in future years? It dawned on me the other day.

Yes! I think it will be hard to find manual and not stupid automatic SUV’s! No thanks.

I’ve owned one auto and my wife fancies one next but it will be strange. There’s always that natural instinct to want to press the brake pedal thinking it’s the clutch lol. It’ll be weird as most people drive manuals and will slowly have to get used to not changing gear.

That was such a great car, back in the day.

I had one of these, which I loved. A 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20valve. Perfect for the central Rockies of Colorado, where I lived at the time.

Haha, the first one I drove was a hire car and the guy from the rental place was in the front passenger seat as I drove the car around to the front of the premises. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and I put him onto the dashboard with a wild left foot clutch stamp forgetting it was an auto

That was just a comment. It’s in good shape. It runs, passes inspection, the roof is in great shape and no body rust. Recently for this last storm in the gulf we decided the Miata was more important to protect. Other than the three years ago, I have not actively been trying to sell it, but I think I’ve finally talked my wife into selling it, which was a hinderance when she wanted to keep it, so will make another attempt. If I think the eventual sell price is low enough, I’d consider donating it to NPR for the tax write off. :)
Thanks for the advice. :)

I suggested BAT when @Huntn first started talking about selling it.

I've been following BAT for a while now. Clean classic sportcars regularly sell and do well. It's not as "exclusive" as you seem to imply(presentable but concourse and otherwise common classics sell there regularly), although I don't know if Huntn's car would attract a lot of attention. Still, though, I'm fairly sure it would at least sell on there unless the reserve was unrealistically high.

I’ve seen this year, model car sell for as high as $17k. As I remember last time I put it on for $12k, but a more realistic price might be $5-7k. It’s in good condition, not a mess. I will be listing it again soon.

{I snipped your post to highlight where you’re incorrect.}

You claim you’ve been visiting BaT ‘for a while now‘, then you would at least know what their mission statement clearly states on their website. Yes, I used the word ‘exclusive‘, which is also reflective and direct from their mission statement, which you obviously didn’t read or pay attention to, so let me help you out so you can revisit what You obviously didn’t know:

BaT has become its own self-sustaining ecosystem where users submit their vehicles for exclusive auctions. BaT’s curation mirrors our original eclectic taste: off roaders sit next to track cars, domestics next to foreign, parts next to projects. We’ve even auctioned re-creations, kits, and boats!”

Back in the early 80's I was trying to get home from a job, going up I74 between Columbus and Cleveland in a snow storm. Traffic was doing 35-40 mph max. I was listening to the CB to keep tabs on the traffic when I heard a trucker yell "what the hell was that?" Just then a little red car went zooming past us, weaving in and out of traffic, doing at least 50-60mph! An Audi 4000 for sure.
About 5 or 6 years later, my youngest son was looking to buy a car, he was all hot on a Jeep, but I found a used 4000 for him. That thing could climb a wall. Had a switch in the console that locked all four wheels together, incredible traction. He went off to college and I got a 1990 model 80 at the end of a lease, then after moving to NY from CA got an A4. Great cars, but expensive to maintain.

Respectfully,

From several questions addressed at me in this very thread, I recognize(and respect) your deep knowledge of newer American cars, but feel that you don't have a great pulse specifically for the European sports car market, a market in which I'm heavily involved.

Note even in what you quoted that they specifically mention "parts" and "project" cars. BTW, there's a reason the site is called "Bring a Trailer", and in the early days(again, following for a while) projects were really common-in other words you'd really need to "bring a trailer" to get them home. Yes, they've tightened up a lot. The FAQs page(https://bringatrailer.com/faq/#collapse-how-do-you-choose-which-cars-to-accept) states that one of the evaluation criteria is attraction to their target audience and community. In other words, even if a car is relatively common, so to speak, if a particular audience is know to bid/buy strongly, they can and do accept the car. Also, there are high profile auctions of cars that are by most metrics fairly crummy and even were once ubiquitous, but come to market infrequently enough now that they get listed.

Are you going to get-say-a rust bucket rubber bumper MGB on there? Not likely. Even so, here are two currently listed MGBs on the side(cherry picked because I know the market best).

I'm cherry picking MGBs because I know them best, but here's one that sold last week

There's nothing particularly spectacular about this car. It has a nice cosmetic restoration, but is far from concourse and is about what you'd see at any British car show or driving cruise. It also has some common "sore thumb" parts that are replacements, a newish rebuild of the original engine(or at least a correct one) with a $100 aftermarket valve cover and a common $200 bolt-on aftermarket carburetor kit that's actually much maligned among a lot of owners. The interior has some stick-on wood panels that are inexpensive from the usual suppliers and disliked by many, plus there again a lot of common year-incorrect and obviously new production bad reproduction parts. It does have a Webasto-style sunroof, which was a common period modification. Most significant, though, is that the underbody photos show rust perforation in the sills, a somewhat common issue that makes the car structurally unsound and is a really expensive repair.

That car sold for about twice what I'd have paid for it(based on the sill rot), but still got plenty of attention even if not a pile of money.

Going back to Huntn's car, here's a somewhat similar one that sold a couple of days ago

I don't know Fiats so am not going to pretend to act like I know what I'm talking about.

My point being, though, that I believe you are being rather bold by claiming I'm ignorant of how the site works when I truly can sit here all day and pick examples-recent examples-of why I believe Huntn's car stands a good chance of being accepted.

If you wish to dispute my examples linked above for why I don't consider them in the "exclusive" category you keep mentioning, I will await your explanation and reasoning. Otherwise, I would suggest that you are the one who has not spent time watching listings that have sold through the site.

I know you like to post lengthy scripts, and I can appreciate that, but your specific post above is is full of drivel and unnecessary filler that has nothing to do with what I was referring to. And I don’t mean to be snarky about that, but I’m not reading your entire script when it’s completely off-base from my interpretation v.s yours. I will just focus on the above part of your quote.

That said, Huntns car very well may be accepted on bring a trailer, I never said it wasn’t. As a Matter fact, I completely suggested that as a secondary option. In order to put a car on bring a trailer, you have to send it in for documentation and approval. They make the decision if your car has an extensive history with background, literature, pictures/videos, to be accepted into auction. I actually encourage for his Fiat to be on that site if possible

In terms of actually listing and selling a car on bring a trailer, I do think there has to be some type of ‘exclusivity’ to the car in terms of rarity and originality, I think that’s really specifically what the site directors are looking for when you put a car on that site. So in that regard, I do believe his car is a possible candidate, but for that matter, there are cars on that site that you can’t find anywhere else in the world, so I do think that entails some exclusivity.

Please cite what you consider "drivel" and "unnecessary filler" in my post as I attempted to offer a factual refute of your "exclusive" implication.

To be perfectly blunt also, you have no standing to make those claims about the post I made when you state

Feel free to quote anything from my post that you consider "drivel."

I am very hot and cold on Tesla in general. I like the idea off an EV. I hate the fanboys who have this "ICE is dead and legacy automobiles are doomed" attitude. It's completely ridiculous.

The build quality is still kind of iffy, but the car is a blast to drive and the interior is super comfy and the tech and phone app are top notch. I like the performance EV feel. The 340 mile range is a tank of gas so I don't have to charge it every day and 4.4 0-60 is no slouch (maybe a tenth slower than my S4 was). Even still, I had a NEMA 14-50 installed in my garage, so the car can change from 0-80% with ease overnight (I don't charge it past 80% to prevent battery degradation).

I attempted to offer a factual refute of your "exclusive" implication.

Yes, you attempted. However, my point Still was and is, (and you can be as pedantic as you’d like about this), a there is exclusivity to post on bring a trailer. Just the fact that you can’t just post any vehicle you want says something about the fact that you have to have an approval process before they even allow your vehicle to be on there with a lengthy history of background information with vehicle documentation, VIN reports. To me, that implies some exclusivity. I mean, [I wouldn’t use the word ‘exclusive‘ in terms of eBay motors, which really doesn’t have much requirements.]

The Cobra that I just purchased, wouldn’t even qualify for BaT based on what previous owner said, because it was so heavily modified, which it was anything but Original. And yet other Terminators sell on there that have one owners/little-to-no modifications at all, because that’s generally what that site is directed at those vehicle demographics.

For the record, this has nothing to do with import versus domestic, my point is, I use the word ‘exclusive’, (which you questioned when you replied to my post initially), which was direct off their mission statement when I replied where I came to my exclusive comment, and I suspect you overlooked that or got upset at the fact I Proved you otherwise.

Anyways, I would be happy to entertain your thoughts, so feel free to personally message me if you want to discuss it further, as I would rather not clutter the thread any further.

I appreciate hearing your "car guy" report with your impressions.

I know I've gotten the reputation in this thread as a Tesla basher. In truth, I can really appreciate the technology and the strides they've made in practical EVs. The reasons you cite, though, turn me off the brand(and not the concept of EVs as a whole).

They certainly are fun to drive, and that's a good perspective on the range basically being a tank of gas range. I'm sort of revisiting my "no chance" stance now because I'm in a better position to charge at home and I'm doing a WHOLE lot less long distance driving that I use to do(I use to make ~600 mile round trips nearly every other weekend, and I make probably 1/3 that number of trips now) and 340 miles covers my usual 2-4 days a week 60 mile round trip to work commute with plenty of room to spare.

Enjoy for sure!
