I always put my car in first gear when I park whether I’m on a hill or not as an extra fail safe, it’s a habit I do automatically. How do you do hill starts without using your handbrake? You must have a very good knack of not over revving and finding that bite point very quickly.
Always parking with 1st gear in and handbrake engaged.
I very rarely use the handbrake for hill starts. Mostly because there aren’t a lot of hills around ?

So the Yoke steering wheel got a lot of attention. There's still a lot of questions regarding it: is it legal? How is the turning and especially doing a U turn or such actions that require the steering wheel to be turned more so. Some think it's going to be where you don't have to turn the wheel so much to get it to turn. I do not know.

Also, there are no stalks, so there is no PRND shifting. According to Elon:

and look at the 0-60!

Yeah, way out of my price range, but wow. They did a good job with the refresh.

Uh, that yoke is ugly. Not necessarily the idea as such, but this specific incarnation. Too much el cheapo plastic. For that amount of money, they could at least have made it leather.

I think it's all in how you learn-I stall when I try to start on a hill with the hand brake.

It's hard to describe and easier to show/demonstrate but basically I start letting off the clutch and get to where it just bites right around the time I'm taking my foot off the brake. I can then start revving as I let out the clutch the rest of the way.

I can start smoothly and without rolling back doing all of that. We don't have a lot of crazy hills where I am now in Illinois(although it's not flat as a board like it is toward the center of the state) but we had some pretty good ones in Kentucky.

Maybe a T6 V90 is in the future ;), so far I’ve heard only good things from owners save for the VERY early 4 cylinders (2015.5-2016) which had oiling issues. All solved. I still need to drive one myself. Can’t wait to own another wagon, I at one point had an 850 R and it was a blast of a car.

The V90cc are cool. My mother has a 2015 A4 Allroad and is looking at the V60 and V90 cross countries. She originally had a 2015 V70cc but it was returned under lemon law due to electrical issues. Not very reassuring to but another Volvo but she’s owned a couple previously without major issues (XC90 and 240 wagon). She also had a 2001 A6 Allroad way back when, which was an absolute nightmare. The A4 has been very reliable but she’s always complained it’s smaller than she’d like and she’s not in love with the MMI. The Volvos offer a lot for the money and come in quite a bit cheaper than the new A4 and A6 Allroads.

I’d love to get my fiancée a V60/V90 but she’s not really a wagon person.

I wish Volvo kept offering the 6cyl T6 that her current S60 has. My only gripe is the longitudinally mounted 6cyl impedes the pivoting of the tires making for a ridiculously inconvenient turning radius.

The steering wheel/yoke is more than likely made of vegan leather, the same as what's in my Y. I love the feel of the wheel in my hands.

And before you say "well, that's plastic", perhaps you need to think "why did they do that?" Look at the company as a whole and why they would make their seats/steering wheel out of this material.

So that it fills the stomach of fish for the next 1000 years? Leather looks nicer, feels nicer and is better for the environment.

And most important to me. No chrome bits. Hallelujah it is finally starting to look half decent.
Becoming tempting now. Nice to see they use man made materials and think of the environment. Say he who plants his bottom on proper semi aniline seats ? But I bought second hand so I’m recycling ☝️?

Oh no it isn’t. Well; yes it looks nicer if it’s semi aniline, other wise it’s meh. It feels nicer, well if it’s semi aniline otherwise it’s meh, and no it definitely isn’t better for the environment.

My mom had an S60 T6. While cool, and fast, the car was a nightmare when it came to replacing any sort of accessory on the engine because of how little space it had.

The best engine type Volvo made were their 5-cylinders. Reliable, interesting, and fun. They could be fuel efficient to a point with a manual.

Hopefully your Mom goes for a V60CC. That will probably be the next car I save for.

Sad to see you had such issues with your C30. Mine has a few nibbles that I need to resolve, such as a windshield that's coming un-laminated from the top, and an exhaust gasket leak at startup. Other than that, it's been relatively problem free and reliable. I bought mine from the original owner, with 92,000 miles. It's a 6 speed manual car, so it's been fun learning stick on it.

I'm rather bummed about the car, too! It was quiet and very comfortable, and it was a perfect amount of fun as well. Gosh, it looks like you've got the perfect C30. I personally prefer the look of the redesigned model as you have. I hope you enjoy it and it treats you really well, they're special and very unique vehicles! Oh, and my factory alarm kept randomly going off.

I've seen a couple VW/ Audi posts in here but nothing about TDIs.
I bought a 2015 Jetta TDI in 2020 and love it. It replaced a gas 2011 Jetta.
Love the diesel - incredible gas milage, usually about 46mpg and on a long trip got almost 70mpg.
But I also bought it because of the whole VW diesel fiasco, it comes with a 12 year or 167k mile warranty. Love that!

Yeah, way out of my price range, but wow. They did a good job with the refresh.

The Model 3 Plaid+ starts at $120k, but given the amount of advancements in the interior, it’s a massive upgrade in every which way possible. I didn’t mention it before, but even the new redesigned front bumper and wheel options totally set this car apart from the previous Model S. Tesla is really starting to flourish with design elements and tech ingenuity. I like the idea of the force touch buttons and the wireless charging pad in the center armrest for the rear passengers.

Yup. I’m with you. I absolutely detest chrome and I like little as possible. I think a lot of manufacturers are slowly getting away from that. I totally get chrome pieces will always be a part of cars mainly for exterior trim, but for interiors? It’s tacky and dated.

Maybe it is, or maybe it isn't - doesn't change my impression that - at least from the picture above - it looks cheap. Just adding some seams would have helped at least with the optics (I obviously cannot judge the feel from a picture).

? The seams are there with natural products as you can't always get the animal skin in one piece, it could have imperfections to work around, or like with a steering wheel you can't wrap it unless there is some kind of opening. That is the advantage of man made materials, you can fully make it how you want it and thus can have it lovely and seamless. Adding seams where not necessary would make it come across to pretend something it isn't and thus make the experience fake. In my opinion they did well not to mimic other materials.

On the Model S: I like the interior, hate how huge the screen is, and despise the steering yoke and the lack of a shifter. The lack of a turn signal stalk is kinda maddening as well. On the upshot, they're probably targeting BMW buyers who would never notice the turn signal stalk missing lol.

I wonder how often we're going to hear about people driving their model S into things. It just makes too many assumptions! How will it know the difference between someone stopping in front of a store to drop someone off, and someone stopping so they can back into a parking space? What if you parallel park? I dunno. I hate the idea!

Yes definitely; I just specced up an S Plaid+ and for once I think it looks really nice. But ahem, in the UK it starts at £130K in white on 19" ugly wheels. You have to pay another £1500 for metallic paint other than white but as the color choice is pretty **** anyway you'd need a full colour change wrap on that car which is about £5K for that car, and £4400 for 21" wheels, and a further £6800 for autopilot. WTF...I'll have the 'slower' Porsche Taycan Turbo S for that instead on principle. Tesla really shouldn't penny pinch on essential extras like that...

The Taycan styling is light years ahead of Tesla. If you look at the earlier model years of the Model S, it just looks like an unrefined Kia from the outside, and Tesla is finally making some adequate changes with the exterior styling with new front bumper, interior upgrades, chrome delete, new wheel options, etc. That’s the thing with Porsche, their styling is so much more refined and not necessarily just unique, but striking where it’s really no comparison to a Tesla.

But I agree, if I was in the market for a full EV, hands-down it would be the Taycan, simply for what you’re receiving with the price and there’s nothing else like it on the road. I’ve seen one so far in our uptown district, and it really is like a piece of artwork.

Good that taste is different with people. Otherwise all men would want the same woman.
