Needing an app store app is unusual, I wonder why that is. Simply because of money?
Agreed its a bit odd, but I wonder if its like adquard in that way (not the free extension but the full paid app).

I doubt it, an app like ours cannot be in the app store as it uses kernel extensions (the same reason why you can't find parallels or vmware there).

I've been using 1 Blocker for a day now and I can tell that it 10x better than AdGuard, Adamant and Wipr. It works so simply and looks great. Also it's the only I've seen yet that is fully customisable. Get it. It's worth $5.

How is it better than AdGuard, that is besides being simple and looking great. Is it any faster? Better battery life? Thanks..

I did a test using http://www.raymondhill.net/ublock/pageloadspeed.html to see the speed differences on TheVerge.com and cleared all cookies I got these results:
1Blocker: 33.05 ms
AdGuard: 36.49 ms

Also 1Blocker can block EU Cookie notices and Anti-Adblock Notices / Blocks. Also note that the very favourable review of 1Blocker for iOS ( https://brooksreview.net/2015/09/content-blocker-test/ ) was redone later ( https://brooksreview.net/2015/12/content-blockers/ ) finding Purify to be the fastest.

Curiosity got the better of me and I went ahead and purchased 1Blocker ($7.99 AUD). It is very customisable. I sent the developer an email - had reply within minutes which answered my question and was offered further support if needed - so a big plus there.

However, I am not 100% sold on it. Going to go back to my previous content blocking set-up for now.

It has iCloud sync too which is pretty neat. I have it syncing all my filter sets and custom rules across my personal Mac, work Mac and the 1Blocker iPhone app.

The only downside is, the filter set updates aren't nearly as frequent as Adguard... The last filter update was in late March (you can see this through the iOS app). You can see the effects of this... For instance, Facebook sponsored posts aren't blocked, neither are sponsored tweets on Twitter, and Forbes detects that you're using an adblocker. I don't get any of these issues with Adguard. This might be enough to make me switch back...

Do you know how I can get www.bild.de working? With uBlock Anti-Adblock Killer did the job.

You could make a custom package here and load it up in the iOS app? Unfortunately I don't know how and also if it would work.

I went back to "Sanitize" for now. It blocks most of the annoying ads but doesn't break any sites for me. It's lightweight and fast. Looking forward to the next update of 1blocker though.

I know but I have no idea how to customize it. Actually it seems Adguard is better on customization because with Adguard it works if I put this as a custom rule:
@@||bild.de^$elemhide @@||sascdn.com^$script,domain=bild.de @@||smartadserver.com^$script,domain=bild.de

Is it possible to activate "Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek" in 1Blocker?
I have to say I regret buying 1Blocker. Adguard seems much better.

Can you guys recommend me good adblocker both for iOS and OS X?
I'm looking for adblocker that works but doesn't require a day to configure. I don't want to think which filter should I enable and which one should I disable.
I've tried a huge amount of adblockers both for OS X and iOS and currently I'm using Wipr on both platforms because I just install it and that's it - no configuration needed. I like it.

But I have few problems with Wipr on OS X (slowdowns on Facebook and scroll issues on one page I visit) so I'm asking if there's any other good alternatives?

I use Adguard (iOS app and OSX Safari Extension) for both my iPhone and MacBook Air, works like a champ with no issues on either device.

Thanks for the reply, but Adguard is highly customizable. For one this is good thing, for me it's an issue. I know it may sound silly but I don't have time to configure such advanced adblocker... :(

Uh, what? o_O:confused: Setting it up will take a whole 30 seconds...

iOS:
  • Install app
  • Open app so it can download filters
  • Press home button
  • Go to Settings -> Safari -> Content blocker -> push Adguard switch to "On"
  • Done!
OSX Safari:
  • Click "Safari" at the top left of the browser
  • Click "Safari Extensions"
  • Search for "Adguard"
  • Click "Install Now"
  • Adguard screen will pop up with 4 red buttons, click the top one
  • Done!
I mean if you want to make it more complicated than that and paralyze yourself with stress your free to, but those steps alone have worked perfectly for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just do the initial setup like Hal explained (you will have to do this with any adblocker), then you can just leave all the other options at their defaults if you like. That will work just fine.

I too use Adguard on both OS X and iOS and have not seen anything that would make me change.

Any good reason to use 1Blocker over AdGuard? I'd love to see more benchmarks comparing the two.

Is the reason that they've released a separate app for this simply that you cannot charge money for extensions?

Purify is best on iOS. 1Blocker is currently the best for Mac

1 Blocker updates used to be much more frequent. They claim on Twitter that after the Mac app launch they will become more frequent. Ad Guard just uses a forked version of Easy List (ad block pluses list) and gets updates when easy list is updated. 1 Blocker claims they are currently working on a specific fix for Forbes.

If you look back over this thread you will see this is not the case at all. There are posts here where users reported a block list problem to AdGuard and an updated list was pushed within less than a day by AdGuard. So AdGuard is obviously doing their own updates.

I've bought and tried 1Blocker (on the Mac) and I like it. However, I definitely have found it has broken more sites that AdGuard, and I get the impression that AdGuard is more active and responsive in fixing issues and updating rules based on feedback. Maybe the dev will catch up now the Mac version is done? In the meantime I've switched back...
