Couple of questions for y'all:

1) is there any way to change it so cmd Tilda is escape instead of cmd period?
2) what's the best way of opening the iPad and case combo?
You can only change the modifier keys. There is no ”create your own keyboard shortcuts” like there is on the Mac.

It’s not very intuitive (or easy) to open it. If you try to open it like you would a laptop, prepare to be confused. For one, if you have the Pencil attached to your keyboard then it’s right in the way of where you use your thumb, and if the pencil isn’t there then your thumb slides right off or pushes the whole package backward. I place both index fingers on the sides of the iPad and lift.

I admit my posts have been of the sardonic douchey variety at times, but my mind is easily boggled by the types of features being requested at times. The ergonomics of the MK are such that a person‘s fingers could not be physically closer to the screen (a touch screen which, incidentally, many seem intent on never actually touching.) And yet somehow having to raise one‘s hand 8 inches to access the control panel is still considered too much work...

I get it, I do. But... I also don’t.

It’s more to allow for easy access to controls Apple won’t give us for some reason. Why we cant easily adjust keyboard brightness confuses me

I’d been doing it this way for a day or so, and then I saw someone made a gif of it! (Credit to some thread, maybe this one, on this forum who linked it originally)

I’d hate to see how worn and nasty the spine will become over time by doing that.

Yep, I echo every one of your sentiments. Only the lack of a function row really irks me, otherwise it’s utterly brilliant.
I’ll have to get used to how “hard” it is to click the trackpad compared to my MacBook. That’s about my main complaint with it so far. Also it takes a lot more effort to open than the old keyboard folio.

Got my MK for my 12.9 iPad Pro and so far I love it! One quick question...what is the point of the passthrough USB C port? Before I got mine, I assumed that the keyboard covered the existing charging port in some way, thus necessitating the passthrough. Nope...original USB C port is available just like with the folio keyboard. I'm not mad about it, just don't see the point. BTW, I have read that the passthrough doesn't send the same amount of current as the built in. Today while playing a 3D game and having the charger plugged into the passthrough, I actually lost about 5% battery while playing even though I was plugged in!

The point is that you can have the iPad charging through the pass through on the keyboard, and use the iPad USB for something like a hard drive, etc.

I’m liking the keyboard so far! However, I cannot get the backlighting to work even in a dark room. I move the slider and when I leave and go back it is back to being set to the far left

I’ve restarted. Am I missing something?
Do you have auto brightness turned off? The keys are using the same sensor so may be tied into that.

Hey guys I am new here and just got my new magic keyboard today and I was wondering if it’s ok to use my MacBook Pro’s 61W power brick to charge it?

Can someone tells me what the globe key do please ? Does this brings up the virtual keyboard ?

Also, if you enable multiple keyboards in Settings, it changes which dictionary tHe iPad uses.

My partner is French, so sometimes I write to her parents in French. When I do, I use the globe key to switch from the English dictionary (for the predictive text / spell checker) to a French one....or to the emojis of course.

This is what pops up when you hit the Globe key...

Is it possible to turn off the pop up when in a text field? The one that has undo, redo, clipboard, suggestions, B/I/U?

I’ve been using the 12.9” keyboard with my 2020 iPad Pro LTE for a couple of days now. This thing is really brilliant.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been heading out on my motorcycle daily to set up an “outdoor office“ in scenic, isolated places in the mountains, (living in a place where outdoor recreation is an “essential activity”) and I can get an incredible amount of work done - the keyboard has truly kicked this into overdrive. If it’s this good now, I can only imagine what’s coming in future generations. One tip; tap-to-click is a total game changer with the trackpad. It’s in hardware keyboard settings. Also remapped globe as esc.

Using it as a hybrid laptop has really been a pleasure. Overall, it’s a lot more fun (if perhaps not always easy) to use than my 13” MacBook Pro, and for certain things it’s much superior. The learning curve has been real, but short.

Everything I do, from video outlines with sketched notes and storyboards to reviewing 3D product engineering designs is easy on the iPad Pro. And quite honestly, my typing error rate is much lower than on my MacBook Pro.

Yes, social isolation and the general situation may suck, but the timing of this device and what it brings to my workflow has really been great for me and my use case.

Charge it via the new USB-C Port on the keyboard folio? Great question! Sometimes when I travel I try to cut down on the power adaptors.

It's fine to use on the iPad so I wouldn't see it being an issue when using the keyboard port

"If you have a higher-wattage USB-C power adapter — such as the one that came with your Mac notebook — you can use it with iPad Pro, and you might see faster charging."

The other thing is that it frees the ipad from being tethered so that it can be quickly and easily removed from the stand for other tablet-centric uses.

1) frees it from being tethered
2) safer to plug in (no danger of breaking the magnet hold)
3) frees up the other port for data. This actually is great. :) No need for a hub in some cases. My MacBook 12" would like this. Single ports are a gyp.

Confirmed here, both my higher wattage Anker and my MBP 60W supply work fine with the charging port on the MK.

I cant confirm this...
My consumption meter measures approx. 19Watts on the iPP and the MK, too
Wiggle the Plug in the MK or the iPP on the MK (Smart Connector)

I’d hate to see how worn and nasty the spine will become over time by doing that.
But is the best and fastest way to unfold with ohne hand
Two hands is slow.

Is there a way to turn the screen off with the keyboard? On my MacBook I programmed the trackpad corner to do it. Use it all the time. I'm probably going to have to use time-out though.

I should say, I don’t open it in the exact same manner. I start from the same position, upside down, spine near me. But I support the tablet side of it with my other hand once it’s open, I don’t flip it like in the clip with one hand. I’m not bothered about one handed opening, but this way does seem the least fiddly method.

Mine seems to be getting really grotty already just from the oils on the skin. Particularly the outside, I’ve tried wiping it with a damp microfibre cloth but I can see this thing getting pretty gross quickly. Hopefully someone comes out with a skin for it.

The shortcut app widget has been extremely helpful. @eninety made a really nice keyboard brightness Shortcut too!
