Does root make the S5 any faster? I would not have kept it if I felt is was a lagfest but I like icing on the cake.

How bout switching to ART? Does that help with speed?

Give it time the lagfest will come. I don't notice much difference on Art, you won't be able to do updates on Art, have to switch back.

----------

outdoor brightness with the auto setting reaches 698 nits. To compare, the iPhone 5S has a max of 587.

I have both 5S seems better in sunlight. I will try again later and post.

I get updates on my N5 and ive been using ART for a while now. I wouldnt think it would be different for the GS5.

Just tested, the 5S is way better in direct sunlight than S5, icons on home screen are probably twice as bright with both on 3/4 brightness. You can't even see hardly anything in messages on S5, and only just see the no's in phone app.

Well that's Samsung for you, you have to switch back to Dalvik to do a update, you get a message that says phone has been modified, go back some pages in this thread and you will see.

I think that depends on your own eyes. Some said the GS3 was good in sunlight but i couldnt see a thing on mine. My Nexus 5 is much better.

I've got the S3 and it's TERRIBLE outdoors. Now that we're on summer I can't barely see anything on the screen
outdoors at max brightness.

Don't know if most phones are like this, but I'm sure some are at least visible in some measure.

Thanks for confirmation. IPhones are usually very bright, even outdoors, but sadly iOS isn't an option for me.

I had the M8 and from memory it was better than S5, There is a few on here that have both they might be able to test those 2 for you.

I only think of these phones in one way: they're ripoffs. Pay for a 16GB phone with half capacity? No.
Really? Did you think the whole thing through? It has a SD Card slot. So you can increase the storage capacity up to 64GB.....soooo just for grins....can you do that with an iPhone? Or IOS 5 maybe? Talk about a rip off!

I still believe that it's stupid that Samsung sells the built-in 8GB as 16. It would be better to have a true 16GB storage built in, and then expand it, giving you more storage. If you expand it with this 8GB you would get less than if you had 16GB! Just my logic, just my opinion.

Samsung's not the only one with SD card. Many other Androids which are true to storage size have them. They would be better choices just for more internal storage. For example, Sony Xperia Z/1/2/Ultra. Waterproof like Samsung, SD Card Slot like Samsung, Snapdragon 801 in some like Samsung, 3GB RAM like Samsung, but all are true to storage size. Just lacks the heartbeat sensor and fingerprint scanner, but iPhone, which is STILL TRUE TO INTERNAL STORAGE SIZE JUST LACKING THE SD CARD, has the features.

So so wrong. The 16GB Xperia Z2 had just under 10GB free ....

I think I'm losing my mind... after having the S5 for two (frustrating at times) weeks I went back to the iPhone 5S on Friday. Now 3 days removed, I'm finding myself missing the S5! I think I'm hopeless!

Na I'm the same way. I got a 5s but felt it was too small. So I got the s5. I like it but if the iphone had a 4.5" screen there would be no questions and compromises. I'd be on an iPhone in a second.

You do not have 16GB of actual space in your 16GB iphone. You can NEVER add more space to your iphone! Samsung does not do a good job of optimizing the space and software on their phone...this is well known. BUT they also give the ability to add more space by providing the SD Card feature. So an entry level 16GB GS5 can be expanded to 128GB!!! You do the math...which one is a better value and adds more features to the consumer? A $500 16GB GS5 that can be expanded to 128GB or a 64GB iphone for $849 that can NEVER be expanded! So once you fill up your iphone....you are left to buy a new phone to get more storage...........

No phone or Tablet that is 16GB or 32GB or whatever has it all available. Even my N5 didnt have all 32 GB available. It was 26.75 GB available from the box and thats pure Android so your true storage size claim is hogwash.

yea I know. I'm sure I'll buy one off contract when they are available. I needed something to hold me over until then because I broke my moto x. I really miss that phone. Best I've ever had. The s5 is cool though. Just too big for one handed use.

Just sold my S5, never had a phone that has taken so long to offload. 9 days. Would never buy a S series Samsung again, you would think after their crap S3/4 they would have improved. Overpriced garbage. Feels good to be lag free again. :)

Maybe the Note 4

The S4 isn't crap, it's TouchWiz.

I have an S4 running GPE ROM and it flies, lag free. It's unfortunate that Samsung can't get TW right.

Edit: forgot to agree with you on the resale value. I payed off contract ($700) and now it's valued at $300 best.

And that's only one year later! Although that happens with almost every Android flagship. That's why I don't want to buy a new flagship again and pay 600€ every two years...

TouchWiz really doesn't seem bad on the s5. I had the note 2 and the lag was noticeable. I'm not seeing it on my s5. I'd prefer stock android but I'm liking the phone.

Yep, just tried a Note 12.2, killed all the apps then opened 2 and it was using 2.2gb of 2.8gb ram. Then killed them and was it sitting on 1.6gb idle.
Got to be TW. Man their big.
