I bought my MBA 11" fully loaded with 8GB RAM and 512GB along with the i7 processor. I got it at Amazon for $1206. I wanted to pay a little less but this seems to be the market price for these late, great, classic computers.

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-11-Notebook-Computer-Bluetooth/dp/B06XXY2DKB

That is a good price. It looks like it is new vs. refurbished, but where did these things come from? Where have they been for 9 months since Apple discontinued the 11"??? I'd be worried about the battery life after so much idle time. Hope it works out for you.

I checked the battery cycle count and it was at 4 so it must have a brand new battery. Sold as new with a full year AppleCare warranty.

My guess is that Apple offloaded them to B&H who sold them at $850 in a few hours to wholesellers (and a few MacRumor guys). Now they show up at eBay at $1235 and Amazon via various outlets who sell FBA (fullfilled by Amazon).

I figure when these new ones are out of the pipeline then only second hand units will be available. As they say on late night television, "Quantities are limited, call now for best selection....."

Brand new MacBook Air 2015 i5, 8 gb ram, 128 ssd, etc... $749.00 Best Buy and a $100.00 Best Buy gift card being sent because I complained about the $100.00 education not being available for this sku number. Those sneaky people adding sku numbers to the education $100.00 OFF, because the public have no idea what that mean's and DO NOT read the small print, including me :) I would not have known what it meant anyway. I don't know their sku system :) I don't work for Best Buy!

Fantastic deal...And yes of course it is the 2015 model that they are trying to get rid of the stock so they can sell the 2017 model. But I don't care, it's for a college student that has not idea what spec's mean and needs it for surfing the web, writing paper's, and light use!

So depending on how you look at it. The final price is $649.00, or $749.00 with a $100.00 Best Buy gift card. Either way, a great deal in my mind, and that's all that matters :) Gotta go look at the Best Buy site and buy thing's I need that total $99.99 including tax, with the gift card. :)

I got a used 2015 (made on November 16th 2015) 4GB, 128GB with only 43 battery cycles for £400.

I'm as pleased as anything with it.

What do you mean the public doesn't know what it means?o_O Can you not read? Its not about knowing how their SKU system works.... the SKU is right there on the product page. The coupon either applies to the product or it doesn't....

Ignorance of the terms and conditions is no excuse. Next you'll say to the judge, "well, I didn't read the law because the public doesn't know what all that legalese means!" Not gonna fly... thats a very bad mindset to have.

You should consider yourself very lucky that you got $100 back.

The macbook air 13 is current $699 new at bestbuy right not for Elite members, some are getting it for $599 with the EDU discount on a YMMV basis (also 5% off with BB credit card). As far as I know $599 is the best price anyone has ever seen for a new base 13 inch 8GB Air from a major retailer.

BTW, it's within the 15 day price guarantee they offer and our free tax weekend in our state is within that range so we are getting around another $80.00 something dollars ( as we already called and verified through corporate ), along with the $100.00 gift card and the $749.00 initial price. It just keep's getting better!

Got $107 refund on my Air from Bestbuy since the EDU code didnt apply right.

Used a $20 reward cert and got 5% back with CC for a total of $550. Not bad at all.

A week ago I spilled a drink on my 2013 13" 128/8 Air and it went dead for a few days. I was really digging the nTB MB Pro 13" 256/8 so I picked it up at my local Apple store. My initial strategy was to phase out my Macbook Air as it was showing its age (mostly cosmetically). Then I came to the conclusion that for my use the MB Pro was no way in hell worth 2x what a brand new MB Air would cost.

I'm sticking with my revived 2013 Air, but if I had to buy new tomorrow I would go with the Air.

Depends on what you want to do! As mines a work tool the first apps I downloaded were MS office 365 suite.

Enjoy.

There was enough terrible reviews of MBP for me to decide against spending $1700. I needed a reliable laptop and so I went with Air 2017 and 13 inches for $800. Yeah screen is nothing to brag about but it’s one heck of a reliable machine. Too bad for Apple.

Hey everyone, have never owned a Mac before

Is a 13” Air (2015) with 8GB of RAM and a 1.6GHz processor a good buy? Can it stream 4K (from YouTube) or will it drop frames?

And should I wait until they do a redesign?

It's unlikely that a redesigned Air will come out soon (or at all!).

But the Air you mention above can easily handle a 4K video. Out of curiosity I just tried it on my 2013 11" Air with 4GB RAM and the 1.3Ghz i5 and it was playing it without any trouble.

Damn that sucks, I bet they could improve on the design in big ways

And that's strange because my Surface Book (Gen 1, no dGPU) can't handle it half the time (and no it's not an internet connection thing, just tested this streaming multiple high def videos)

You will find that a Mac with same hardware as a Windows PC is usually performing better - kudos to the programmers of Mac OS. It is particularly obvious when I run Windows 7 on the same Air mentioned above - half the battery life, running hot, much slower.

But back to your question: neither the surface nor the Air have a screen that can run a 4K resolution video anyway. When trying a 4K video out yesterday I ran it on an external monitor (24" cinema display) that has a max resolution of 1920x1200 - so pretty far from 4k as as well. Is your plan to hook up that Air to a 4k display? If not, the resolution will de downscaled anyway.

Strangely, when I’m on YouTube on my Surface Book I drop frames

And I know it’s not a connection thing,

It's not, but I always run the highest resolution possible (except for 8K) because 4K looks better on a 1080p display than 1080p video

Can you try playing 2160p60 from YouTube.com? JerryRigEverything post his videos in that so you'll be able to find some content

Just ordered a MBA from Best Buy, the i5 with 256 GB ssd is $999. More than enough for my basic needs.
