Ugh! I'm so mad I missed the $1000 deal on the i5/8GB/256GB SSD model at Best Buy this past week.

Does anyone know if the Black Friday deal is online as well and what time those usually come back?

I would just keep checking daily for the deals. They are bound to pop up again. Good luck!

I just ordered a base config 13-inch Air (1.6 GHz, 8 GB, 128 GB) on Black Friday. It'll be my first Mac, I have a custom-built PC, but I'm also an iPhone/iPad user. If I manage to make the switch to macOS, I'll probably upgrade to a 2018 MBP.

Just ordered a refurbished 2015 11" with i7, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD from a UK re-seller. Too bad that Apple decided to discontinue the 11"! I really like the form factor, two USB ports, and benchmarks indicate that its CPU performance should be slight faster than a fully loaded 2016 MacBook M7 (which would cost close twice the price of the refurbished 11" Air).

... and no, I'm not the kind of middle seat guy, who travels with USB hub etc. only to be able to do two things in parallel while on a plane ;)

Congrats, you certainly got yourself a powerful machine; and saved serious quid. I did the same recently, albeit with a lower spec Air 11. Apples marketing is second to none, it's a shame they axed the 11. But then again there would of been plenty of buyer's sharing our view, which in turn would impact MacBook sales.

Today on Black Friday I ordered a 13" MacBook Air with a 512 GB SSD, 2.2 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM. :D

I considered the new MacBook Pros -- there are so many factors that goes into a buying decision for a laptop -- and chose the MBA due to its tapered form factor (I don't care for the square edge of the MacBook Pro), battery life, keyboard, etc. I was tempted by the MacBook Pro touch bar models, but not the one sans touch bar. The 16 GB RAM limitation on the MBP and keyboard were a couple of the reasons I went for the Air (along with other reasons).

It was a tough decision for me, as there were pros and cons to each of the lines (MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro).

Hopefully I made the right choice for me. I will receive it in a few days. :)

Congrats! The Air is a fantastic machine. I had an 11" for a few years and really loved it. Just curious though, if the 16GB RAM limitation was an issue for you in the Pros why did you get an Air with 8GB of RAM?

Because I couldn't justify what would be for me an expensive purchase for a MBP with only 16 GB of RAM; the Air with 8 GB (although I wish it had 16) was more bang for my buck, in my opinion.

It looks like it is gone now. I went to Best Buy on Friday to buy the MBA you mentioned above for $999. Their website said it wasn't available at ANY stores within 250 miles.

I actually ended up getting a mint condition Early 2015 13" MacBook Pro that was only 5 months old on Craigslist for $800 last week instead.

Lots of good second deals right now. Not sure if it's the holiday season or the new models coming out, but if you don't need "the new one", there are a ton of very capable machines out there for awesome prices.

I ended up going with a tMBP and am very happy with it overall.

Good luck to everyone receiving their Airs. :)

Yup, I bought the nTB macbook pro, exchanged for a new one, and going to return that one today for that $799 deal for a macbook air. The nTB macbook pro is a great laptop, love the keyboard and screen, but I keep getting static/popping noises and a random screen flicker. I rather get a great deal on the macbook air now, and get the pro later after updates and price drops.

Studying for web dev, so macbook air should suffice for the time being.

When I saw the presentation for the new Macbook Pro I decided it wasn't the machine for me and bought my wife and I 2015 Macbook Airs. Sure it looks great but the price, keyboard and nascent ports turned me off.

After all the reports of bugs and hardware failures, I certainly glad I went with the much more stable and reliable Air. Apple product are best after the third revision.

Received my "new" 2015 MBA 11"/2.2G i7/256 GB/8 GB from the Apple Refurb store this week, for $1149. Noticeably faster than my 2013 1.3GHz i5 model. These little gems have been my rock solid, go-to laptop since 2010. This one has the horsepower and new battery for many years of service. Also wasn't ready to jump to the new MBP and since I travel a lot, I love the size & weight of the small MBA.

I have to say, after two month of intensive usage, the 13" MBA is a great machine, fast, long battery life that lasts me two days of work light and portable etc. But the pretty bad viewing angles on the screen are worse than on my 2010 11" MBA. The contrast is good though and the screen real estate is great with 1440x900.

This has been my experience too. Retina is awesome and all (I have an iPad and iPhone with Retina) but despite the hate for the Air's screen, I find it perfectly adequate for my needs and I prefer 1440x900 to 1367x768 and 1280x800 you get with the smaller Air and the 13 inch Pro-line.

This week I couldn't pass up the base MacBook Air 13" for $799 at Best Buy. With the discount, a gift card, and a few reward zone points it was a heck of a deal. After selling my 2012 MBp 13, I tried to like the 12 rMB. The screen was great, keyboard and trackpad were not too bad, but I just couldn't get used to the size and weight. It just seemed too small and not stable while sitting in my lap. This is one thing the earlier MBp was better at due to the extra weight. But resting your palms on the front edge would always make them hurt due to the sharpness of the front edge.
After using the MBA 13 for a few days, I have found what is the best machine for me. The size, the design, and it is plenty powerful for my use.
Surfing the web while sitting on the couch, checking email, playing with a few spreadsheets, and transcoding a movie every now and then to add to the WD my cloud for the family to watch.
I know it's not the latest and greatest screen or components, but I don't care. It is everything I need. I just wished that I would have picked it up sooner.

Sound like you've chosen wisely, grasshopper. Pros and cons to the models without a doubt. At that price point though, you just can't go wrong.

Just picked up a mint condition 2012 MBA 11" from eBay last week. Always had a thing for the 11" Air but went with the 13" years ago before upgrading to a MBPr a couple years ago. Really impressed with the form factor, weight and general portability of this machine. Even managed to do some light video editing in FCPX on it. I can see this replacing the MBPr for travelling!

Got my 2012 air yesturday.

i5 4gb ram and 64gb ssd, 11"

it is great and as I thought it might it out performs my 13" 2010 macbook.

small screen has not posed any issues yet, but not taken it to work yet either.

the ssd size is going be an issue so will get a 256GB drive as soon as can afford it.
In mean time will keep files to a minimum.

bought used on ebay only 18 charge cycles and 96% health.

I'm very happy :)

but my fiancee is trying to steal it.
