Not worth it, in my opinion. It is the current year model, but it has 4GB. I find that 8GB is a minimum for most computers nowadays.

is this a good deal?

https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-macbook-air-13inch

how old is that model? do you think its worth it? or should I wait and see what happens with the macbook air line?
It's the mid-2013 model and a refurb. No mention if this is an Apple certified refurb or a "refurb"/used/returned MBA.
Apple sells refurb through their own website with 1 year extendable warranties, their price is $699 for this model when it becomes available occasionally. Apple's refurbs are as good as new.

The tiresome 4GB vs 8GB RAM debate boils down to usage pattern.
4GB is sufficient for most generic office type work, web-surfing, iTunes, etc.
If you don't run VMs or other large memory hungry applications that specifically call for more memory, OS X will manage memory quite efficiently, especially with SWAP memory residing on an SSD, unlike older Macs with spinning disks.

If you're looking for bottom of the barrel deals, this is an ok deal, but caveat emptor buying from non-Apple sanctioned resellers without clarification what you're actually getting. The "Value" figure was correct 3 years ago, not now!

Sure, if you can find a version with 8GB RAM that fits your budget, go for it.

Picked up a Macbook Air 11 4GB RAM 128GB Storage, from the UK refurbished store. Couldn't be happier with it, ideal for little projects as a sideline to my main rMBP. Granted a lot less RAM and storage but it's not my main machine and never intended for anything 'major'.

As a sideline to the above comment I have tested it running Parallels 10 with Windows 7 and Autodesk Revit 2016 to open a 300MB 3D building model, and it does it better than I expected! Granted I wouldn't want to work from it 8 hours a day but for showing in meetings then it is good.

I just jumped on the Best Buy Cyber Monday in July they have going on right now.

I wanted so bad to like the Chromebook I have due to it's simplicity and it's price, but my goodness, does it slow down big time the minute I open up a 3rd and 4th tab. This led me to wanting something a bit more powerful immediately. I know the Air is older and not even that powerful to begin with but I still wanted something small and portable and I feel like I got it at a price that was too hard to pass up, $599 ($100 student deal and some reward zone certs) for the 13 inch with 8GB ram and 128gb SSD.

I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase.

My wife just bought me a new 13.3 inch air from JB Hifi (10% off sale) for my birthday. After giving up my last MacBook Air two years ago to switch to Linux it feels like I've come home. Fabulous machine and with my usage and care, it will last my 5 years.

Welcome back. I've been a user for about a year and a half and I can't imagine how hard it would be for me to go back. The MBA is a solid workhorse for me.

Air is nice but she didn't consider getting you the 13 inch macbook pro? People seem to say it feels about the same weight and thickness but smaller dimensions and more powerful.

Either way, it's a nice machine. No question if you've used a mac for a while then leave it ... then come back after a long while - it WILL feel like coming home. Great way to describe it.

I wanted the Air. The form factor is my all time favourite and I don't trust Apple not to mess with it. I'm a writer and developer (web and Python) by trade so I don't need power. Much more valuable to me is the portability and the sence of familiarity.

Truely, I've come home!

Yep, this is the key gripe I have with Apple these days, they seem to change useful designs and features more for the sake of change rather than for customer use and satisfaction. The rumored elimination of magsafe and laptops with usb-c only ports doesnt help me, the user in any way.

Just grabbed an A1466 2015 MBA to accompany my 2011 MBA that I'll pass to the wifey now. I wasn't sure if I'd see any major worthy performance boost, with 1333 and 1600 mhz ram not being night and day, but the VRAM difference between 384 and 1536 is all kinds of different. Probably my most favorite is the HD webcam as it was lack-luster in the 2011. Very crisp in the 2015. Great upgrade for me. Very happy.

So I had a Macbook Pro Retina. Loved it.
But I wanted to get a computer for gaming. No more low graphics! Ha.
So I'm selling this Macbook Pro to help offset the costt. Picked up a gaming computer through ebay.
And just ordered a Macbook Air 2013 11" on Amazon for $370.
It was listed in acceptable condition. We'll see how it looks when it gets here tomorrow. Hoping to be able and keep this Macbook Air for a few years.

Just picked up an Air 11. Two days after the "Hello Again" event, and I had some trouble finding new in box at a local brick and mortar store.

Glad I didn't wait any longer, I would've ended up with my only option being a refurb.(or demo), which I'm not a fan of.

Get em while you can, or double down for a rMacbook.

Good luck.

I have a 2015 maxed 11" MBA but needed a larger screen because of the work I do on it. So, I gave it to my wife and bought an almost maxed out 13.
I really miss the 11. It is so mobile and easy to carry and easy to use... a real powerhouse as well. I've never had a better computer. Ever.
The 13 is great and the screen real estate is just what i needed, but just doesn't have the feel and portability of the 11. Man, I miss it. The only up side is that my wife has it and I can always take it when going on vacation etc.
Congrads on the 11 that you purchased. You will love it.

WOW. I purchased a refurb loaded in 2013. Took the extra $ and bought 2 backup drives, with money left over All still running great. Would do it again.

Sorry, my 11 is not for sale.

I'm coming from the dark-side(Hell, I mean Dell, Windows 10, came with it, couldn't upgrade to 8.1). I'm looking forward to getting out of that life sucking black hole, time warp continuum, legacy driver using, forever updating, joke of an OS.

Cheers

Yeah, I've read no bad with the Mac refurbs., Apple does a good Jobs with that. Demos on the other hand, you never know what they've been through. Still, glad I bought new though, I'm a picky bastard that way.

Smooth move, well played.

Thanks! The 11 inch is an outstanding computer and perfect for my wife. She hoping it will last her as long as the 2010 air its replacing :D

I'm a happy owner of a 2015 13 MBA.

In terms of value, power, portability, accident proof and ports, nothing beat the Air.

Just bought a 2015 13" MBA with core i7 2.2Ghz, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD with 42 BAttery Cycles for only 970€ incl. shipping.

I initially wanted a 11" but this seemed like too good a deal to pass on. On the plus side I'll have a SD card slot to expand the storage, more screen and most importantly better battery life.

I simply could not justify to pay 1680€+ xxx for adapters for the new MBP eventhough it should have a better screen and GPU. It would cost me almost double.

I just ordered a used MBAir 2015 256gb i7 8mb. I paid $900 and it has AppleCare for another 18 months.

The new Pros were just too ridiculously priced for my wallet with what didn't seem as big enough gains to warrant.

Did I get a decent deal?

Compared to mine, which I got now btw. with only 30 instead of 42 battery cycles, it seems like a really good deal.

That 2.2ghz i7 CPU is about as fast as the i5 in the nonTB-MBPr (I'm getting 3731 Single Core, 6947 Multicore on Geekbench 4.0.1 64bit) , it has the same amount of RAM and an SSD, which is really really fast, so fast that the difference will be unnoticable. The battery life on this thing is just incredible.

It doesnt have Thunderbolt 3, which might be interesting to you. But for convenience I'm still preferring to have USB-A ports, and the screen isnt really that good, especially the fat bezel and the bad viewing angles.

Here are two tips for the screen:

1. Use this to calibrare the screen for better contrast, its a little difference, that comes out big, imo.
http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/29/fix-dull-color-contrast-on-mac-screen-calibrate-display/

2. I use a style sheet to increase font size in Safari to be 112%. It just makes browsing more like on the MBPr, imo.

Beeing almost the maxed out MBAir available (except for the SSD, that could be 512GB), it will easily resell for similar value, if ever you decide to get the new toys.

I upgraded from an 11" 2010MBA, so this thing seems blazing fast to me.
