Mine is now "Preparing for shipment." Actually excited - having been an Apple user since about 1979, getting excited about a new Apple hasn't happened in a long time.

Two days ago I walked into the local Apple store and bought my first MBA, 11.6", 4/256/i5.
.. . .
I don't post a lot around here but this is a great resource for information when I need it.

I was looking for something among my old content, and found the quoted message that I posted on September 20, 2013. Yes, more than seven years ago. And ya know what? That little 11.6 MBA is still going strong! It's never been my main computer so the 286GB SSD has not been crowded. But I use it a lot. It's my living/dining/bedroom option for online stuff. I've traveled with it, of course. (I think I remember travel, sigh.) I replaced its battery last year with one from OWC but that's all the attention it's ever needed. A few years ago I did a "deep clean" reformat of the SSD when I upgraded to the then latest OS, mostly to optimize use of the limited SSD capacity.

I think this old MBA will run Big Sur but I haven't tried that upgrade yet. Since owning this MBA, I have twice replaced my original Mac desktop setup (with a new mini in 2015 and a used 2014 rMBP in 2018), and have ordered an M1 mini as the potential next desktop.

The M1 MBA may eventually replace my little old 2013 11.6 MBA, but as I was deciding which M1 Mac to order? I realized that I kind of love that little old MBA and would rather not replace it just yet. 😍 So I ordered the M1 mini. I have to tell ya, this is odd. I'm usually all hot to trot to get the shiny new tech and to sell or give away my "old" stuff. I'll sell the rMPB in a hot minute if the M1 mini works out as its desktop replacement. Not so sure about letting go of the little old Air. Ain't life funny?

Just picked up curbside from BB an open box 8/512 M1 MBA for $937. Everything was in the box, and the box was in great shape. Only some easy to remove "residue" less than an inch square, looked like the remains of a small sticker. Gold color is not my favorite, but the price was right, and it was the closest BB store to me as well, less than 5 miles away.

Now comes the fun of cloning the 2017 base model MBA (that I picked up a year ago tomorrow), and then shipping it off as a trade in.

I'm on track to break up with my beloved 11.6 MBA. The lure of shiny things has been too much for my magpie-like mind to resist. I think I'll blame it on the pandemic-induced isolation. 🤣 I have an M1 mini (16/512) on the way that I ordered several days ago and should be here in 3 days according to UPS tracking.

But the M1 MBAs keep calling to me. None are available in Apple stores anywhere around here. I ordered one from Apple yesterday - 8/512. Delivery was estimated for early next month. This morning I discovered that our local Microcenter store has the 8/256 M1 MBA in stock at a slight discount (!!!!). I decided that if I've done so well with this 256GB MBA for 7 years, I don't need to pay the premium for a 512GB MBA. So - I just reserved the base M1 MBA in gold, for store pickup this afternoon. I've canceled the Apple store order. I'm going for instant gratification!

I hate keeping old tech gear around, so I will probably sell this little MBA once I've got the new gear up and running. I confess: I'm an Air fangirl, and probably always will be. From the first time the Air was unveiled, I loved its form factor, and I didn't even use Macs back then. When I finally bought one (this one, in 2013), I learned that the function was as lovely as the form. 😍 So I have a bit of logic to back up my emotional reaction. 🤣

For those of you who received your M1 Mac, does the 1-year Apple warranty begin the day the order is made, the day the laptop is shipped, the day it's received or when you first switch it on?

Just asking because I've just ordered a MBA 7C/16GB/256 and the estimated delivery date is about 5 weeks from today (Jan 18). By all accounts the delivery estimate on the order status page is quite conservative and most people do receive their orders a few days prior - but still worried as Google suggests it begins the day the order is made, which is concerning as I'll lose out on a month of warranty just because it took ages to ship.

It will be applied the day of delivery. They usually charge your account at the same time of shipment. Legally, like many things, they “can’t charge you for a service they cannot provide”. In this case, they can’t force you under a warranty time frame on a device that haven’t even been manufactured or serial number tied to your purchase.

I picked up my gold M1 MBA base model (7 core, 8GB/256GB) yesterday afternoon. Slightly discounted and in stock at my local MicroCenter store. The MBA is set up and running. It's a nice step up from the old 11.6 mid-2013 Air. I'm not an instant fan of the gold color but I'll probably get used to it, and it's a change from silver, anyway. The most power-intensive tasks this MBA will ever have to perform: photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop (and a few alternate apps). Usually when I'm away from home as the alternative to the home desktop setup. I think the new MBA is more than up to the challenge. My plan is that it will be my secondary Mac, as was the old Air. For use around the house and when traveling. (I think I remember travel, sigh.) Currently my primary Mac is the 2014 i7 rMBP which powers my desktop setup. I expect delivery today of the M1 mini that I've ordered to take over the desktop duties. We're having a little tech update party up in here. 🥳 Followed by a little sales effort to find the old Macs new homes.

Any place but here or there....
Writing from the 8 / 512gb M1 MBA. I was going back and forth as to whether or not I should buy this even though I am keeping the 16gb Intel MBP for backwards compatibility. Decided to jump this morning and I just love this MBA. Typing on it is such a joy. The screen is great and it's super responsive. It keeps cool (unlike the Intel MBP).

I've been thinking of the Air since I returned the 16gb / 1tb model, decide to use this in lieu of using iPads (for writing, blogging etc.)

Glad I gave the M1 MBA another shot.

I hope everyone is enjoying their MacBook Airs.

Ordered MBA on Dec 8 with an estimated delivery of Dec 16-23, but it still hasn't shipped. Getting worried I'm not going to get it before Christmas.

I picked up the M1 MBA 8/512 yesterday at my local Apple Retailer (Jump Plus)...Upgrading from my Late 2011 MBP, I wasn't sure if I wanted SG or Silver, but they only had SG and Gold in stock, so made the decision easy. Nice colour change too. Got my Apple pricing/corporate discount through work too on it, so saved $100. Slick so far!

Just ordered a MacBook Air M1 512GB in Space Grey from Apple online here in the UK last night. Sadly, it won't come until January 18th but I'm sure the wait will brighten up the dull weeks of next month :D Hope the M1 is as amazing as the reviews say. Also got student discount - my university hasn't cancelled my email yet so it lives on .... mwahahaha

It's weird how I never had to "prove" I was a teacher when ordering online from Apple.

Some years ago (maybe like 7 or 8), I purchased something with the discount at a physical Apple Store, and I needed to show ID to prove I was actually a teacher.

But I ordered multiple times online and never had any questions asked that I remember. (Maybe they have it registered from the time I had to show ID at an Apple Store, but even then, I could have switched job since then ...) (Tim Cook, if you're reading this, I'm still a teacher, just call me.)
