It's weird how I never had to "prove" I was a teacher when ordering online from Apple.

Some years ago (maybe like 7 or 8), I purchased something with the discount at a physical Apple Store, and I needed to show ID to prove I was actually a teacher.

But I ordered multiple times online and never had any questions asked that I remember. (Maybe they have it registered from the time I had to show ID at an Apple Store, but even then, I could have switched job since then ...) (Tim Cook, if you're reading this, I'm still a teacher, just call me.)
I use the portal 'Myunidays'. I notice had I went with a quote from a discussion with an online Apple Store Specialist they'd have required me to submit email proof of an ID card. Strange

I just ordered an 8C/8/512 in gold. Estimated to get here between Jan 7-14. I decided I better get in line because the dates are slipping day for day; i.e. it looked like if I waited till tomorrow it would show Jan 8-15.

I ordered the base model on the 9th and am still stuck in processing. Estimated arrival date is the 7th January but was hoping that, as is often the case with Apple, that it would arrive early. I’m not expecting it before the new year now.

Walked in London Drugs today and the employee recognized me and told me they just got a mba 8C/8/512 space gray. I purchased it and must say it is a nice upgrade from my sluggish 2018 MBA.

"Available to current and newly accepted college students and their parents, as well as faculty, staff, and homeschool teachers of all grade levels."

How would you prove you're a homeschool teacher? Bring a kid in to testify? :) I've bought from the online education website several times over the years and never had to show proof of anything. I haven't tried it in-store, so that may be different.

There are some odd prices. The MBA is discounted from $999 to $899. The Mac Mini is only discounted from $699 to $679.

Purchased MBA 13” 526 GB with 16 GB Ram and 8 core. I am a teacher can I still get an educator discount after the fact?
I don't think so. You would have to return it and buy a new one with the discount. Still, it wouldn't hurt to call Apple and see if they can do something about it.

As an example, I bought a machine, then traded in my machine and received a gift card. I wanted them to apply the gift card after the fact and they said it was not possible.

If you are inside the 14 days "return window" they will either do it, or accept that you return the machine and then you could purchase a new one with the discount.

(Inside an Apple Store my guess is they could probably find a way to refund you, online I doubt it.)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. They haven't technically delivered it...I won't receive it via mail and trade in until late January to early February. I just purchased it last night via Apple Pay...hopefully they can hook me up with something!

In that case why not just cancel the order and place a new one?

I did the same thing as you but with one big difference. Bought a new M1 Air, paid for it with my CC, then traded in my old Air. But when Apple received my old Air, they promptly credited my CC for the promised trade-in value of my old Air. Why wouldn't they do the same with you?

They told me I had to indicate the trade in at the time of purchase. The actual sending of the machine is done later. Did you indicate you wanted to trade at the time of purchase?

Yeah, I did tell them that I had an older Mac to trade-in at the time I purchased my new computer. So I guess that's the difference. Sorry about that. Ironically, they sent me my "trade-in package (box and label)" after I had already owned the M1 Air for about a week or so.

That’s how the trade in process is supposed to work so you essentially get to try the new machine before sending in the trade in.

I pulled the trigger last night. I ordered my 13” MacBook Air. I went with the 8-Core GPU model and the 512 GB SSD added in the Pro Apps Bundle.

Now comes the hard part. The wait. It looks like 3 to 4 weeks wait.

I was finally able to track down a 1TB/16GB at my local Apple Store last week to replace my 2018 256GB/8GB MBA. I didn't really need the extra hard drive space but I didn't want to wait on a BTO either. I wish I had grabbed one as soon as they came out instead of waiting two months. Night and day difference with my previous Air and it's nice being able to multitask during video calls and not worry about how many tabs and apps I have open.

Picked up an M1 MacBook Air 16GB/1TB last week. Loving it so far. Now I have the best of both worlds. Mac for Final Cut Pro and Asus Zephyrus G14 for portable gaming. Both laptops are 9hr+ in battery life too :)

Anyone else's MBA look like it'll miss the delivery window? I ordered a base MBA on 12/26 with a delivery window of 1/13-1/20, and it's still in Processing.
