I don't understand why some who have ordered on Oct 24 have their order "prepared for shipment" whereas people like me

I ordered the 23rd and I'm in the us and still no shipping

And when I checked again today at my Apple Store Online - it now changed its estimate ship to within 24 hours! What the heck!
What! Hows that possible? I ordered mine on the 23rd and status hasn't changed. Was this a BTO?
I think the 11.6" are taking a while to build.

The guy that sold it to me said the bigger cities are already stocked with the 4gb MBA's even though they don't have them advertised on the store's floor.

How about in your case, did Apple starts to ship within the timeframe stated in the order?
It seems Apple Store US and UK promised to ship within 24 hours.
Malaysia within 3 days (now changed to 24 hrs)
Singapore within 2 weeks.
They had them as the Houston Galleria yesterday but when I spotted by today they were almost sold out. Spoke with the Apple dude and he said they MBA's have been flying off the shelves. He has never seem anything like this before.
Having ordered online last week and it still not shipped....I thought I'd call around on the off-chance they had a spec'd-out version....
Called the Raleigh NC store at Crabtree and the lady on the phone said that they did, in fact, have the upgraded versions. Having spent a lot of time on this board researchign the new 11 MBA, I was skeptical.
I went it to the store to buy and cancelled my online order that had yet to ship. I asked the guy standing around for it and he assured me that he didn't have anything besides the base models. I told him I guessed it was just misunderstanding over telephone, but asked him to check anyway.
He came back with a fully loaded 11.6 MBA and showed it to his buddies working. They had no idea they had them or why they had them but he said they only ever had a total of 2 logged in their system for sale since the announcement.
tl;dr = Call around and maybe you might find a upgraded version without having to order online
Good score. I called the Apple store at Pheasant Lane Mall in New Hampshire today, I was hoping to get one tax free. They said they had the 11" 4GB/128GB in stock. When I got there and said I wanted to buy the upgraded 11" I was assigned to a "specialist" who told me they had all models. Then he said they would upgrade a 2gb to 4gb at the genius bar and it would take an hour or so. I explained to him the memory wasn't store upgradeable, and he didn't believe that until he went to the genius bar and found out for himself. Maybe they did have an upgraded model and the salesguy had no idea what was going on but at that time I was too frustrated to deal with it, picked up iLife 11 and Office 2011 and went to Chik-Fil-A. Saved some money, but left pissed off.
mine has been sitting in newark all day coming to nyc. I thought I would get it a day early, it's due the 28th. but if it sits any longer in Newark I'll probably just get it on time
Honestly, I ordered mine on Oct 23rd and people that ordered the 22nd are still waiting for "Prepared for Shipment"....I have to say it, "Pic or it didn't happen"

Finally my new MBA fully loaded 13" is prepared for shipment. Ordered on 10/22. Waiting to find out shipping info to US - Texas. Added expedited shipping but then argued with them earlier today as my shipping dates never changed when it was added. In the home stretch!
finally left newark. My guess is it goes to brooklyn tonight, out for delivery tomorrow a day early as I originally thought.

I ordered mine the same day and its still "prepared for shipping", has been for 14+ hours. Hope they haven't left it in a corner somewhere!
I tried to understand what UPS does to deliver the MBA from Koeln to UK, it seems that the package won't fly to UK. I can't find any flight coming to UK during the 27th. UPS uses 3 airport in London and 1 in Edinburgh.
No one has a better understanding on what is happening from now?

About to pass the 48 hr mark. I bought 2 BTO MBAs config'd as above w/a couple of accessories. Decided to go with the 0% interest for 12 months and pay off within about 10 mos. Applied for the credit online. Then used the credit at checkout to pay for MOST of the order. Total cost was a little over the credit line granted ($4000) so I put the small balance on a credit card I already had.
Earlier today got an email saying there was a problem w/payment for the order. Checked the web for the Barclay card account and found that the Apple online store screwed up my order. The "system" did the exact opposite of what I asked: Apple TRIED to charge $4,000 to my existing card and put the balance of a couple hundred on the new 0% account. Since my existing card would not authorize the $4,000 charge, Apple would not process the order.
Called Apple this morning around 11:15 Eastern time and a very nice CSRep checked on the situation, straightened it out, and said he would call me tomorrow to insure everything was back on track. By this evening, the Barclay (0%) card has preauthorized the $4,000 so I guess things will soon be "on the move." CSR also took off my 2-3 day shipping $18 because it's for sure it won't happen in that time frame now!
Sounds like the same kind of stuff I heard from folks on the AT&T forums when people ordered their Iphone 4s back in the summer from the Apple online store. Maybe this will turn out to be OK and not much delayed. Status still says not shipped at this point. Coming from China?
