Called the Raleigh NC store at Crabtree and the lady on the phone said that they did, in fact, have the upgraded versions. Having spent a lot of time on this board researchign the new 11 MBA, I was skeptical.

I went it to the store to buy and cancelled my online order that had yet to ship. I asked the guy standing around for it and he assured me that he didn't have anything besides the base models. I told him I guessed it was just misunderstanding over telephone, but asked him to check anyway.

He came back with a fully loaded 11.6 MBA and showed it to his buddies working. They had no idea they had them or why they had them but he said they only ever had a total of 2 logged in their system for sale since the announcement.

tl;dr = Call around and maybe you might find a upgraded version without having to order online :)

awesome! i live in wake forest and will be heading to crabtree tomorrow for business. if they have one, it will be mine :)

No need to apologise, my fault! BTOs will be getting delivered on Thursday i think. They're in Germany at the moment. I imagine the stock ones are stored in the UK for faster delivery.

ugh...ordered mine on Friday and it still looks to be stuck in China, but says it will be delivered this Friday to the north east United States...is that possible?

Yes agree there, just checked tracking on apple site and has no tracking through countries etc so must just be coming from uk, hope u all get your BTO Airs early , fingers crossed!
 
dilemma: i ordered a 11.6/1.6/4GB/128GB BTO which is not supposed get to me until next week, and my local apple store has the same config but with a 1.4 processor....what do i do? bite the bullet and get the cheaper, slower one or wait?
I need feedback!
 
Yeeeeeaaaah, my order is now "prepared for shipment"...ordered at 10 PM Oct. 24. Just wonder when I get FedEX tracking number...can't wait to get a new mba and to dump all of my pc and laptops!!!

I'd just wait the week and get the one you really want. A month from now you'd be glad you did.

My max'd out 13 inch arrived today, 2 days earlier than estimated. Plus I only went for the free standard shipping.

Following up. So the Apple Store employee didn't know exactly what she was saying. They didn't have all four models with 4GB, they only had the max 11.6" and 13.3".
So my only choice was to pay 400$ + tax for a 1.6GHz/4GB/128GB over my $999 for 1.4GHz/2GB/64GB.
I did it but I am second guessing myself, as I have been mistaken to buy more than I need. I think the base was exactly what I needed and for the right price for me. The money isn't a big deal for me, as I have it, but I think I can spend it elsewhere.
Either way it's good to see that Apple Stores are carrying custom configurations in stores, especially max'd out ones.

I don't understand why some who have ordered on Oct 24 have their order "prepared for shipment" whereas people like me :( that ordered on Oct 22, have status "not yet shipped"?
Does it mean Apple delivered orders from US customers first?
