Ok, so I caved and ordered a maxed out 13" MBA.Went and had a look at it in person at the Apple store. The screen was stunning and weight just perfect.

For someone that travels over 100,000 miles a year, even at only 4.5 lbs the MBP was definitely a bit tedious.

Time to sell my 13" 2009 MBP. I hope I won't miss the backlit keyboard too much. Only time will tell.

Maxed 13.3". "Prepared for shipment."

Is this the US apple.com Store where you ordered from ?

Mine (13.3"/2.16/4/256) is now preparing for shipment! Any news for you, reallybigfeet?

Now the crucial question is: how long will it take? I've seen several where it took only a day from "preparing for shipment" to "delivered". Where did your BTO MBA's ship from? US or China?

Mine just went to Prepared for Shipment in the last hour. It's Sat over there now. I doubt it will see the inside of a Fedex cargo plane today but we'll see.

My MBP came over from China as well.

I simply can not make sense of this. You ordered 30 minutes after me, same configuration, are only now preparing for shipment. I got expedited shipping and mine LEFT Shanghai last night, however my arrival estimate is 5 days later than yours?! Makes no friggin' sense...

Is it possible that both free and expedited shipping items have the same shipping from China to the US, and only when they are in the US does the expedited shipping make a difference? That might account for the different delivery estimate by Apple and FedEx, and once they are off the long first plane ride, the delivery status may change to be the same.

Some people who see their orders sitting in process may be experiencing slow approval by their credit card companies. Those who frequently buy expensive items from Apple may have quicker CC approval.

Annoyed

I ordered a BTO (11/1.6/4gb/128) and I ordered it day one. I just got the shipping notice today---set for delivery on the 27th--BUT I paid for expedited shipping.

I think that if shipping wasn't able to be expedited, then apple should have made note of that.

I think that is expedited shipping. I order my 11 inch with 4gb of ram around 3:30 pm on day one. I chose regular shipping and mine is arriving on the 28th by 4:30 pm.

Yes!!

Mine just went to Prepared for Shipment!!!

Ordered first day hours after keynote but had to cancel and order again at night because my EPP discount was cheaper then EDU discount :D

Oh. Ok. I was just hoping I could have it by Monday...but, I am glad it's on its way!

For those that are interested in some initial impressions, I just got back from the very busy Apple Store at Chadstone, VIC where they had 11" and 13" MBAs on display. I had a good 20 minutes playing around with both and I have to say i'm blown away.

For light duty email, surfing, video watching, iPhoto, Facebook, YouTube etc, these are killer machines.

Looking at the spec sheet you'd think you're in for a pretty ordinary experience but believe me, these does not feel like slow machines at all. In fact, they both leave my 2.53Ghz Late 2008 MBP for dead. Now that is mainly due to the SSD drive (ok, solely) but its amazing how much that makes up for a slower processor in terms of the overall responsiveness of the system. In general, the extra time taken in CPU cycles is MORE than made up for by the blistering speed of the SSD.

As a quick test, I fired up the 1080p version of the Cars 2 trailer on the 11inch and looked at the CPU utiliisation: ~12%. Obviously this is thanks to the hardware acceleration but given that most OSX apps support H264 acceleration, even the 11" will be a cool, stutter-free and very watchable hidef video experience. Unfortunately they didn't have Flash installed so I couldn't check out any video web sites (tsk tsk Apple, you should at least have it installed on your demo machines!) but overall the web surfing experience was brisk and satisfying (probably BECAUSE there was no Flash to slow it down ;))

All in all, stoked with the 13" purchase although I'm thinking I'd be just as happy with the 11" (well, my Wife would) but its only for around the house so I don't mind the extra bulk too much (not that the 13" is a "bulky" machine at all).

Can't wait for delivery next week!
