As per the previous poster, given there were no new Macbook Pros announced, I've ordered an Apple refurbished M1 Mac mini with 8GB for £589. I plan to sell once there is new hardware.

I tested my workflow on my Mum's Macbook Air M1 8GB, and it was fine (PHP Storm etc).

I may need to swap for a 16 GB Mac Mini if having dual monitors connected pushes the memory.

At work, we bought a M1 Mac mini with 16GB RAM for testing. It's okay but the Elgato Thunderbolt 3 dock and Ethernet connection seem to be a hit/miss, could be Big Sur related. The 11.4 update seems to address it.

I need to buy a Late-2018 Mac mini to run Mojave as a headless computer. Will use OCCASIONALLY for running an Aperture library, running backup tasks while my main computer is busy/away, and to have on-hand for anything I may need to run that is 32bit, etc. (The 2020 Mac mini will not run Mojave, so that is not an option.)

Looking around at Apple's refurbished offerings and also on eBay. Don't need much storage, and 16GB RAM is plenty.

QUESTION: All else being equal, am I better off with:
- 3.6 GHz Core i3
- 3.0 GHz Core i5
- 3.2 GHz Core i7
In other words, for my purposes will the higher-clock-speed, but i3 model be sufficient?
Or is there noticeable difference with the slower, but i5 or i7 models?

I won't get the Core i3, the i5 or i7 is a 6-core processor with larger cache. The good news is all models have SSD storage.

OK, good advice. Seems that the hyper-threading of the i7 would be beneficial. Thank you.

Due to lack of new hardware reveal in WWDC, pulled the trigger on a M1/16GB/1TB mini to pair it with my LG Ultrafine 5k.

I've watched some YouTube reviews talking bout Bluetooth connection issues. Is this issue really widespread? Am having to connect Magic Trackpad, AirPods and a Bluetooth keyboard to it.....

I did the same, with a 16/512 Mini.

I'm using a wired keyboard and Apple Bluetooth mouse - no issues at all with the mouse. So far, very, very happy with the Mini.

I've got a M1 Mac mini now with 16GB and 512GB drive – this thing blows my 'old' 2018 Mac mini i5 6-core and 32GB RAM out the water. So far no Bluetooth issues and I was able to remedy the RGB bug (grrrr) with the Apple TV airplay mirroring trick.

Great to hear bluetooth connectivity problem is not a widespread issue. Fingers crossed all will be good when it finally arrives.

Excited that I can finally leave fan whine behind when I run mundane stuff like outlook or adobe Ai

My M1 Mini is totally silent - bit weird to be honest, though my MBP 16" was silent too if it wasn't connected to a monitor.

Can't wait for my M1 to arrive later this week. Configured to order takes like a week to reach.

My MBP 16" fans are really noisy whenever I connect it my Dell U2720 at work or my LG 5K at home.

Couldn’t be more happier with mine. It took a bit longer as I upgraded my order too, to a 16/512, but delivery came a week early which was a nice surprise.

Yes I received mine and is putting the machine through it's paces. No bluetooth issues so far and it's really quiet. Only regret I had was not buying it much earlier. :)

I received mine last week and noticed a setup issue. Usually I don't use Migration Assistant during the initial setup process. This time I decided to try it since my old Late 2012 Mac mini didn't have a lot of stuff on it. The old Mac mini and new M1 Mac mini were connected to the same Velop router via Ethernet cables.

At first it didn't trigger the 6-digit code to start the transfer, so I disabled all the firewall settings on the Velop router. It got to the point, I was able to select what to transfer, the application crashed. I didn't check what version of Big Sur on this Mac mini, but I managed to make a 11.4 USB boot drive from another Mac. Booted it up on the M1 Mac mini and ran the install. With 11.4, I was able to do the Migration Assistant successfully.

My thoughts exactly! Wish I'd picked this up months ago, instead of waiting for the new iMacs. Totally happy with it now though, and it works a treat with the LG 27" monitor I bought last week.

Ordered a 16/500 Mini M1 last Thursday and it should arrive this Thursday. Last status was leaving Hong Kong on Friday. This was somewhat pressed by my son borrowing one of my MacBook Pros because his work MacBook Pro has bulging battery. This is a stopgap system until the M1X systems come out. I plan to get an M1X laptop and some kind of desktop. I would prefer an iMac so that I don't have to deal with cables for speakers, videocamera, microphone, and the main monitor. But I have no clue right now as to when the M1X systems will ship. I'm starting to think Fall at the earliest and next Spring at the latest.

I will probably give the M1 Mini to my wife to replace her base 2018 Mini. She has complained about video performance when she has a lot of browser tabs open. I think that the M1 would fix that.

On the LG 5K, just can't get the "highest scaled resolution" available 3200x 1800 on retina like my 16" MBP. Highest available resolution is just 2880x1620.

Tried EasyRes and Resolutionator but it just isn't available. I'm good with 2880x1620 but won't mind higher resolutions though.

I think that EasyRes only works on the internal display.

I still use a 2011 Mac Mini for a media server but decided to pick up a new one a couple of days ago. I just stacked it on top of the old one. Can't believe it's been 10 years and it looks the same. Nice to finally have new ports though I miss the audio in port.

Just received a 16/1TB M1 Mini. The performance and graphics definitely feel like an upgrade for my dual monitor setup. The M1 will be replacing my 2018 i7 Mini, so far so good!

That's a nice upgrade. You should find that it runs nice and cool. The 2018s have a reputation for running hot (we have one but my wife doesn't run too much on it).

Yeah, I was installing Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic ... and the M1 was totally silent. The intel would have been at 100 degrees with the fans running at full blast. It's a welcome change from the i7. Now I just need to swap out my hot and noisy 16" for an Apple Silicon model. Good times in computing!

Just received my new Mac Mini M1 16gb 1T (late 2020) Refurb. Saved about $250.00. Connected to a new LG 27UN850-w with the display port cable supplied with the monitor. Everything is working great.
Thanks to everyones suggestions for this setup.
