Just received my new Mac Mini M1 16gb 1T (late 2020) Refurb. Saved about $250.00. Connected to a new LG 27UN850-w with the display port cable supplied with the monitor. Everything is working great.
Thanks to everyones suggestions for this setup.

KenK
I've got the same setup - I'm using the USBC connector it came with which works perfectly - are there any advantages with using the display port cable?

Familychoice, Not that I have seen. I have tried bought cables and the screen resolution is 384x2160/60Hz. I believe that this is the Max for this Monitor. I have run a couple of tests from Youtube and they are the same also.

Ah ok, thanks for the reply. Not a problem, very happy with the LG/Mini setup :)

I've done a search but can't seem to find the answer...

Do the UK Apple Stores stock any BTO models of the M1 Mac Mini?

Changed from a an iMac to a Mac Mini. Got more memory and same storage space(512 GB storage) also bought a new monitor so I don’t have to share with my PC for work(I work at home and use my own PC for that.) Went with a refurbished 16 GB Memory also directly from Apple. Paid $8 extra for shipping and as a result I got my Mini today and it’s up and running.

got Mac main M1 16 gig 1T. Trying to migrate from my Mac Pro 5.1 nvme pcie drive with no luck. Tried ethernet . Is there an issue with trying to migrate off a pcie NVME?

Just ordered a maxed out Refurbished Mac mini M1 (2TB SSD, 16GB RAM, 10Gb-E). :p

Grabbed one also last night. Will sell my 2020 iMac 27" since I have two monitors already for my Windows box. It will be the main Mac desktop and when we take RV trips, I can easily unplug it and take it along. I can get a lot of video on 2TB.

Nice. Almost a $300 discount going refurbed.

What are your plans for that beast?

Replacing my primary desktop, a 2018 Mac mini i7 with 32GB RAM (which replaced a Mac Pro 5,1 last year). Unfortunately the 2018 Mac mini is very underpowered. It can't even play one 4K video in QuickTime or Photos. Everything is so choppy and laggy, even just light Safari browsing. It drives me nuts.

I have an M1 MBP base with 8GB RAM and it outperforms the 2018 Mac mini, so I decided to get the Mac mini M1 now.

Also, a new ISP will be installed in my condo within the next 6 months and will offer up to 5Gbps speeds. Will be nice to try out the 10Gb-E port!

That’s exactly what I replaced with my M1 Air.

I think I’d like to try a bone-stock MM M1 with external storage for the home server. Unfortunately, my 2012 mini is still serving that purpose handily.

Earlier this year I bought a low budget AMD gaming Windows PC. I love it. I still can run my old 32 bit Windows software I bought over two decades ago. But, I find Windows as an operating system somewhat irritating for my flow. So I purchased a refurbished M1 Mac Mini 256 8g to replace my old MBP 2011. So far I love the Mac Mini and Big Sur.

I like the name Sir. He was hilarious lol... what specs on the AMD build?

After a few weeks absence, M1 Minis are back in the UK refurb store. I've just picked up a M1/16/512 to replace my i7/32/512. Migration went well, but because it came with Big Sur, the subsequent upgrade to Monterey failed a couple of times to begin with, but it succeeded on the third attempt. All good now.

If you don’t mind me asking, why did you swap your Intel for an Apple Silicon MM?
TBH I've never been hugely impressed by the performance of my Intel mini, even when I pretty much maxed it out. Then my wife bought an M1 air, and it just seemed so much snappier. Also I wanted to sell my old one before it became worthless.

I had the exact same experience - except it was my grown daughter who introduced me to the M1 Air.

I was not impressed with my 32GB, i7 MM. I paid a fortune for it and wasn’t using it.

Sold it for an M1 Air and haven’t looked back.

My wife has the 2018 mini and performance is okay but the fans come on during the summer and she has complained about some video issues. I suspect that she was watching 4k video and maybe it isn't that great with the program that she was using. I do mean to upgrade her to an M1 mini. I have one myself and it's great - the only improvements that I'd like are 32 GB of RAM and support for three external displays. The M1 mini is a workhorse of a system. It will be interesting to see what the M1 PRO/MAX mini looks like compared to an M2 mini. I suspect that I'd prefer an M2 mini over a PRO/MAX as I want more RAM and more displays but don't need 8 CPU cores.

The graphics performance was my biggest complaint with the 2018 MM.

I also recently purchased a refurbed 256/8gb M1 Mini and I intend to use it for home media server use. Home media duty is kind of overkill for an M1 chip, but the power draw is perfect for that job, plus the M1 is great for Handbrake duty.

I hope to get as long a life out of this M1 Mini as I did my 2012 MM (which is still doing the home media server job perfectly).

My Windows desktop is also the home NAS and it's overkill for that purpose (8 core i7, 128 GB RAM) but it has a ton of storage and my design goal was that it runs cool, quiet, and low power draw. I could use an M1 mini but I'd have to attach storage to it (I have 2 large nVME drives and 1 large SATA 3 SSD). I'm not sure what to do with the Windows desktop actually but it can be the NAS for now.

Arriving today to replace my 2019 iMac 5K 6c/2TB/24GB/580X is an M1 Mini 8c/2TB/16GB/8c, pretty excited to migrate to M1 and not miss all of that power I definitely wasn't using. Got an articulating arm, 32" monitor, cables, dock, all the goodies coming too - including a foray into mechanical keyboards - very excited.

I love my M1 mini but I will be quite happy when they come out with the next version so I can hook up three displays and get in 32 GB of RAM. The nice thing about the M1 mini is that it gets you into Apple Silicon. Your 2019 iMac sounds like a really nice system too.

Yeah, I thought about waiting for the next generation of Minis for the power bump, but the M1 should be enough for my uses, for now. I want something a little more modular, I guess, and I only have the one display.

Just waiting for UPS to stop by with my monitor... ignore the mess and the temporary camera placement.
