Apple is stupid! I hate Apple! Apple hates me! Apple said my mini would be here between the 12th and 19th! And it is the 12th and it has not even begun to ship. So stupid, I hate you, Apple! Where is my mini? I want it now!

It's here. Still getting settled into it like a new pair of shoes, spent last night installing apps and tweaking system settings.

Until I get into my regular work-flow I won't know for sure, but so far it feels "100 times" faster than my 2015 iMac. Like, booting up and loading all the background processes takes seconds instead of minutes. I'm almost in disbelief.

Nice to have a computer that can respond as rapidly as I can act.

I booted up Civ 6 last night on max settings and got 30fps, but system temp. doubled to 215 degrees. Mildly warm on top of the box.

Still in processing, after 10 days! WTF Apple? Now I am thinking maybe I should not have bothered, and I'll do a fresh install of Win11 on my sig machine and call it a day. Stupid Apple!

Depending on where you live, B&H Photo and Video can do next-day shipping and has a range of configurations that usually can't be bought off the rack. I came close to canceling my Apple order and overnighting from them to get the model I wanted a day sooner.

I use(d) a MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 32GB, 1TB, that thing has lasted 3 years NO PROBLEM!

Here is something awesome... Apple just gave me an offer to extend AppleCare for $149/year for the first TIME EVER on my MAC!! Which I have ALWAYS wanted. Sooo....

I said awesome future proofing is REAL! This MBP M1P will last till 2030 easily, for couch surfing and light coding and Starbucks and such.

Now enter the Mac Mini M4 Pro, hmm... 64GBs done, I had a 2019 MBP got 16GB regretted it. Got the 32GBs M1P regretted it a "little" so this time I said ok that's that, with AI and future proofing I can keep the Mac Mini M4 Pro till 2030 and beyond... I am happy to do so... 1TB 64GB, locked and loaded!

I mean I'll be good till 2035! (gonna repeat the AppleCare) but I have some Mac Pros that have 15-18 years and some 2013s that are at 11! Runnin' strong!

2¢ Laters...

Now Apple is saying it will arrive on Monday, December 16. Definitely not complaining, but now I’m getting my Mac a day before I get my monitor.:D
Again, spoke too soon. :p Both the Mac Mini and the monitor arrived on December 13th. I left my Mac at the Apple Store since they would do the data transfer from my old 2020 MacBook Pro for free. I got it back on the 15th and set it up. The biggest things that helped me set it up was that I had USB-A keyboards and mice and a USB-C to four-port USB-A hub.

Anyway. the graphics and speed jump has been phenomenal. It's the most impressive jump in speed since I upgraded from 300 baud to 1200 baud nearly 40 years ago. 😆

I got my start at 2400 :) Then got a 56K and WOW, life was good :)

I like my mini! It is silent! I ran cinebench and got the fans to spin up to 3k or so. Yes, loud then, but ramps right back down. Looks like my use of 30 tabs open and listening to youtube will not even bother it at all :) I am very happy. Gonna move some files over to it tonight.

Can I run a 5K monitor via HDMI with my m4 Mac mini? Reading the Mac mini tech specs, it seems like that's reserved for the m4 Pro. But if I can, that would free up a Thunderbolt USB-C port to drive a hub. Thanks. :)

My new M4 Mini 512 GB arrived last week, along with a Thunderbolt 4 hub. I bought it from Costco. The 2TB OWC TB 4 drive is supposed to arrive today, so I'll actually be able to set it up and use it, possibly this afternoon.

Of course I'll have to clean off my desk before I can do that. It's beyond cluttered.

Not sure what to do with the old Mini. It's a 2020 (2018) 3.2 i7 with 1 TB and 32 GB of user - installed RAM. It served me well for the past four years, but only worth a few hundred dollars if I sell it. It will sit on the shelf while I figure out what to do with it.

I replaced my Intel Phantom Canyon with a new mini. Both have 32GB and 1TB. I must change my sig. The Phantom was the best computer I ever had. SILENT. Mini is also SILENT. Would love to get something for it because I hate having unused computers in the closet. We'll see.

Which Thunderbolt 4 hub did you get?

Didn't buy one, but a family friend got one and I assisted him getting it going. It's really really small, barely larger than my old Apple TV 4K.

The 16GB standard RAM is also a surprise.
