LoLz. Very good!

With hindsight, as well as a "Payment authorised date" column, I'd have included a "Phoned Customer Services date" column, just to see whether there is a correlation between those who phoned up to ask/complain about their order and the timing of shipment.

No correlation for me. Had email from Customer Services yesterday saying I would see dispatch 'imminently' but still no movement. Meanwhile, three later orders have gone into prep for shipment.

*sigh*

Best wishes
Rob

Oooh, a further email from Apple. That's something, Rob! Anyone else had this?

Good morning folks. My plan for today is to fly to Austin, find the factory, ask nicely if they'll let me in to build my own nMP, hand over a brown paper bag of cash and fly back with my mMP. Can't see any issues with this. Who's in?

Count me in. Can you start new spreadsheet fields for "nearest commercial airport" and "pick me up"? I am an airline captain. I fly everywhere in the world.

Now if I can just "borrow" an Airbus for a few days - we may have to pool our credit cards for fuel. Road trip!

It's been 24 hours since the last time I did some spreadsheet stats and as it's a good way of not doing any proper work for 10 mins, here's an update.

First of all, here's how it stood yesterday afternoon 2.30pm UK time:

US - 16 out of 61 still with no dates
Canada - 3 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 17 out of 29 still with no dates
Asia/Oceania - 9 out of 12 still with no dates

And 24 hours later (changes in bold):

US - 15 out of 61 still with no dates
Canada - 3 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 17 out of 30 still with no dates
Asia/Oceania - 9 out of 12 still with no dates

I'm only looking at "January" shipping estimates.

So they've made 2 in the last 24 hours (as clearly the only orders that really count are those that we've made on this thread and added to the spreadsheet :D).

Really wish I hadn't done that.

I suppose Tim does have to have some time off. Perhaps he's hunting through some draws looking for those tiny hard-to-find screws.

Thanks AJC.

We're ~77% through this month (day 24 of 31) which almost exactly matches the percentage of U.S and Canadian orders which have shipped (~75% and ~72% respectively), according to the sample in the spreadsheet. This might suggest Apple are keeping up in North America, albeit not in order!

But then how are Apple also going to produce ~58% of all Europe orders and ~75% of all Asia/Pacific orders over the next 7 days?!

Comparing your tracking info to mine it's really bizarre,

Yours was prepared a full 24 hours before mine on the 20th mine on the 21st but from the scan times they left on the same truck from the factory to Austin, then to Dallas and then to Louisville, I cannot understand why yours went the stupid route via Philly and France when the normal route to the uk is

Expedited Louisville - Koln - East Midlands
Priority Louiseville - East Midlands direct

Most bizarre I really feel for you and can only assume some sort of misdirect on the package

May be worth a call to apple telling them you took the day off to wait for the delivery, may induce some form of compensation.

Anyway good luck and fingers crossed they get it to you monday now,

Yeah, it is weird, but these things happen. They called me today and told me it would be with me on Monday. I'm not that bothered as I already waited over a month. An extra weekend isn't going to kill me

It was in response to a phone call. It basically said 'January'. I don't think Apple UK have a clue what's going on, personally

Someone at Apple must be getting a real kick out of the policy to write to us to tell us what we already know.

One of today's preparing for shipment prizes goes to CD1212. Wish I'd ordered a few minutes later than I did - might have had it dispatched by now. :)

My CTO order with B&H just updated to "pending". We've got movement.
Hi barryp, how do you know the estimated delivery date? I got one mail from B&H 3 days ago, it told me the order has been shipped but without tracking number. I checked the website, the status is still "Drop ship order pending Standard". So far, still nothing changed...
I placed the order in Dec 19th 8am(PST) shipped to SF in CA.

AcornCinema, who also ordered through B&H, received a "shipped" email on 1/16 without any tracking info and received his on 1/21 (weekend delayed).

That really is amazing. Your computer is only a little taller than that trashcan.;)

Congrats on the new addition(edition?).

Now I've started the nail-biting waiting for my FedEx shipment to go "live." I think they sometimes post updates at midnight. I certainly hope my box isn't sitting in some dark corner of the loading dock in Austin with the tail lights of the FedEx truck disappearing in the distance...

Funny thing is, you could probably get more money for the mac in the background! I wish I had hung onto my Apple IIc...I probably could have sold it and had enough money for the nMP.

I spoke with B&H - they had bad news and good news. Good news is that my order has shipped (from Apple), hence the 'your order has shipped' email. Bad news is that even though I'm just a short hop from Texas, the box has to travel to New York first in order for them to claim I bought it from New York so that they don't have to charge me Use Tax (one attraction to buying from B&H).

I'm betting it arrived in New York today and that maybe the warehouse will turn it around by tomorrow, or Monday ... apparently I have 3-day ground service, so maybe I'll see it by Thursday.

The fact that I don't have to pay Use Tax right now helps in my particular situation, but the fact remains that (I think) all states require that you pay Use Tax on items like this purchased from states that don't require it up front. The added shipping time (and the fact that it is bouncing around the country so much) makes me rethink about ever going this route again, but it has helped in the short-term this time.

B&H will likely provide a tracking number as soon as their warehouse ships it out and assigns it one. Hopefully before I've lost all of my hair.

Shipping status has changed to "Picked Up." That should help with a good night's sleep.

The one trick I have learned is to have things shipped to my place of employment rather than to my house. I work in the next town over from where I live, and the lower tax rate in that town saves me about $100 on the nMP cost. Also, I don't have to wait around all day for the FedEx guy...the receiving dock folks just call me when something arrives.

What! No updates on the spreadsheet today? (US)

Hi vhp3, can you share a little bit more information about your local dealer "MBS"? I'm really interested in how can they get your order ready so fast :D

They made millions of those, but believe it or not a few years ago I sold my old Lisa 5.25 model (aka Twiggy) for $6000 on eBay.

Besides pre-dating the Macintosh by a year, it was rare because other than the fact that they made so few of them, when they discontinued it because of the popularity of the Mac, they offered Lisa owners a free upgrade to turn it into a Macintosh XL, and most of the Lisa owners made the switch... leaving very few 5.25 inch Lisas.

From what I know, the buyer said he was going to put it into some sort of computer museum. I remember looking at the serial number of the mouse and thinking to myself, there must've been billions of mice produced in the world over the years... this was one of the first 2000 ever made.

I still wonder if I should've sold it. I wanted the money, but from what I know now, it's worth several times that today. Ahh... I miss it.

this just isn't really true. if a company does significant business in the destination state (e.g., maintains a retail presence or distribution center), you will typically be charged sales tax for that state regardless of where the item actually ships from.

some businesses (apple) charge tax on all orders, even for states in which they have no retail or distribution presence (i live in one of those states).

if you live in cali and B&H has a physical store in cali, then it doesn't matter if your item ships from texas or new york--they'd charge tax.
