If i had to guess i would say he probably got the protection from Best Buy. If that is the case, they WILL NOT replace the laptop under a one year plan. I know this because it happened to me with a windows based laptop. They will send it out and get it fixed for you though. Just don't get your hopes up that you will get a new laptop because you wont.

where did you buy your laptop from? $500 in savings!?

UK Nectar Points

I've been waiting since January for the new refresh for the MBPs. I decided to wait until 23rd March. I am now in desperate need, so I ordered the base 13" today with an HE discount and Apple care it came to £837. I have the 14 days grace period to return and get a full refund or upgrade (if they come out). The thing that swung it for me was that Sainsbury's are doing a double nectar points promotion until March 12th, which means I also get about £17 worth on my nectar card to use on my shopping. ;)

Well I also got sick of waiting, so just picked up myself a 13" MPB, I figure if the new ones come out in the next 14 days I can return, if not i'm not that arsed.

Loving it :D

Congratulations. It looks good. Which 13" model did you go for and what will you be using it for mainly?

Just went for the base spec, was going to get them to upgrade the ram to 4gb but they needed 2 hours to do it and i was in a rush, seems fairly fast for what i'm using it for so might just stick with the 2gb for now. Was also gonna get a HD upgrade to but decided to get a WD passport studio instead, giving me more flexibility.

Only really use it for web/photos/email/itunes so nothing power intensive at all. :)

I finally bit the bullet and bought a new MBP 2.8GHz 15" have had it for 7 days today!!! I got a great deal on it and couldn't pass up saving $500 on a brand new MBP. I must say i love it, now i'm debating on if I should get the apple care or not? :apple:

Here is my logic on AppleCare: It protects you for three years so if something happens to your current MBP then it will be fixed. If enough issues occur then you will receive a comparable model in the current line meaning Arrandale or Sandy Bridge. If you are a student then you get $110 discount on AppleCare. It was a no brainer for me.

I would stay away from AC on eBay as I have communicated with many "reputable" re-sellers and they all tell me they won't send me the box in the mail with the serial numbers. They only provide the codes and some sellers only have the codes and not the boxes. Sounds fishy to me.

Hi, I just wondered if anyone knows whether you can return/exchange a MBP purchased online at an Apple retail Store. I've purchased a base 13" MBP, but just wanted to know if (within 14 days), I can take it to an Apple retail store if they get refreshed in that time?

Exactly the reason I just bought mine. If you need a memory upgrade, do it yourself for ~$120.

bought a 13" base MBP last night

Bought the base 13" last night after wifey's 4 year old HP died. She needs it for school so we couldn't wait for the elusive refresh. The Apple store matched my educational discount (I work at a Uni) so the pretax total was $999. Fair price, I think, and she loves it. I picked up an iMac 2 months ago to dabble in iPhone dev and find OSX a pleasure to use so I found it impossible to invest in a PC laptop at this time, even given the older internal architecture of the MBP.

Up in the air about returning 15" mbp

I bought my 15 2.53 mbp on 2.25.10 / actually was purhased for me as a 40th birthday gift. I gave my 7yr son my old G4 12 ibook, - so he could start learning how to run his own ilife. - My daughter is 12 and has a 2.16 C2D imac - she is doing well with the same.

First, I absolutely love the mbp - it is beautiful.

i primarily wanted the mbp to run some accounting/business tasks for my studio - (i have been using a Dual 2 G5 for that) and in addition some ocassional Logic editing type stuff at home when I'm away from the the studio. My main studio box is a 8core/2.8 so I am not looking for any hard core music machine in the mbp.

Tomorrow is day 14 for me - and as I suspected it appears that Friday or Tuesday will be the refresh of the mbp. I guess I am contemplating whether to return the mbp tomorrow - not so much on the basis of the ix processors.
As I think this refresh is not the one to wait for. -
Given the newness of NVIDIA's optimus, intel's inability to work with NVIDIA, and apple having to deal with making all this work in time ... and come out with a refresh to compete... well.. I think I'd prefer to stay with a tried and true C2D - at least for my needs.

I was roped into reading the "waiting for arrandale" threads - and I must confess - the anticipation and confusion is contagious - but I'm not so worried about getting the "new" one - as I'd like to get a credit for the family members that bought this for me - of course at $1699 - that is a $170 restocking fee.

This is weird for 2 reasons:

---Week 11 would be this week Mach 7-13, meaning they are giving you a laptop that was built a week after you ordered it...

---March 23rd (a tuesday?) delivery is almost 3 weeks, which seems a bit long

really, really trying squeeze something out of this here, but maybe, possibly a sign of the new MBP update coming in the next 2 weeks?

It can take 7-10 days to build and 7-10 days to be delivered from China. Usually it's faster though. My 17" shipped from China yesterday and says it will be delivered Tuesday.

My Base 13" MBP arrived today and I love it! I still have 2 Tuesdays to return it within the 14 days with no restock fee here in the UK, incase there is a refresh, but if there isn't? Who cares? I'm happy with my lovely mac. It's a huge update from my 2006 model ;)

I ordered the same model (refurb) as a gift for my son who is completing Air Force Basic Training next week. I really like it a lot and will order one for me the next time I see it listed in the refurb section.

Congratulations.

I had been watching the redurb section like a hawk! For the past week, I would see 15.4" models in the refurb section. I figured they would stay in there for a couple of days. Well, I was wrong! Soon as I saw this one pop up, I ordered it immediately.

I've recently replaced my MacBook 'White' late 2008 with a Unibody MacBook Pro 2.53Ghz model. I could have waited by decided that it was the time since I really needed it :)

I am very pleased with how everything is going right now.
