I just got my MBP first Mac I've ever had, the transition from being raised a PC to now Mac has been fairly bumpy but I'm enjoying it.

I just came home from Best Buy with a 17" MBP

2.8 GHZ
4 gigs ram
500 gig drive 7200rpm (installed myself)

I am Super-Dupering over my OS right now. I never thought I'd own a 17" MBP, the holy grail... but today I just said screw it.

Paid $1200 on the BestBuy charge card, 18 months no interest
Paid the rest, $1400~, cash.

Pretty stoked. I am considering selling my Mac Pro and just using this for work.

Question though: Will any of the 60W Magsafe adapters work with this machine, or is the 85W required?

I just got done ordering a refurbished Macbook Pro, 15", 2.8Ghz, 500GB hard drive. I was tired of waiting to see if there was going to be an upgrade soon and relized I didn't need anything better than what I ordered. Even what I ordered was to much for my needs but hey, I wanted it. I have been using my non-unibody Macbook Pro 1.83Ghz since it was first introduced and was ready for an upgrade. The 80Gb hard drive that it came with is almost full, so I think the 500Gb hard drive will last me a while, LOL.:apple:

I am going to the store later this week to buy my first MacBook Pro and I have a question.

When is Apple going to release the new version of the MacBook Pro? Should I just wait a few more months for the latest version?

Thanks.

Steve Jobs and Apple's inner circle of confidants are the only people that know for sure. In short no one here knows, however I'm confident you see at least one update within the next several months.

Before any of the other yahoo's on here jump down your throat.......

There are plenty of opinions out there on this (just look at the "waiting on Arrandale" threads).......

General consensus is that the MBP is overdue for an update. So, if you are in the position to "wait a few more months", I think you can be relatively certain that a new MBP would make an appearance in that time.

Need it now? But it now. Don't need it now? Wait for update.

I got tired of waiting and just ordered a refub 15.4" 2.66GHz, 320GB HDD Macbook Pro with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB!

By the way, this will be my first mac!
:apple:

I did the same exact thing. I have two questions though for all you Mac regulars. First I realize what the refurbs are but the one I received has a dent in the corner of the case both on the base and the screen. Is this normal for a refurb? Also when I ordered it stated it was an anti glare but I am pretty sure they sent me the glossy. How noticeable is the anti glare screen? This screen is pretty glossy.

Anti-glare has silver bezel.

If the dents are really bad, take it back. Though refurbs are more likely to have nicks and chips on them.

I've recently replaced my MacBook 'White' late 2008 with a Unibody MacBook Pro 2.53Ghz model. I could have waited by decided that it was the time since I really needed it :)

I am very pleased with how everything is going right now.

Hi.

I am planning to buy a MBP 13" once the refresh happens, this will be my first Mac as I'm switching from Windows, not because I don't like windows but I just wanted to try a Mac for a change, friends who have switched to an iMac or Mac mini are happy with them. I currently have an Acer dual core intel laptop which was bought in Mid 2006 so it has lasted almost 4 yrs so far and when I get a MBP I'll be hoping/expecting the same sort of lifespan.

I was wondering, you are replacing a MB which is approx 18 months old, are you replacing it because it doesn't work anymore or is not up to the tasks you are using it for or did you just wanted to upgrade to a MBP. I don't want to start a Windows Vs Mac battle, I'm just trying to determine if my expectation of a 4yr lifespan for a MBP is unrealistic.

Thanks

Not unrealistic at all, actually, Macs should perform at a high level for at least 5 years depending on your use.

Thanks for the info. I contacted Apple and they are having me send it back and will be replacing it for me. They stated that they would never send out a refurb with any dent in it.

Thanks for the info. My laptops don't live a hard life, they get used every day but they only get carried around if I'm going on holiday or visiting family or friends.

Just bought a gently used late 2008 2.53 unibody with the 512mb 9400/9600GT. Should have it by Friday. It is my first Mac since a first generation iBook I bought in 2001. I've had two PC laptops in the last 4 years and I'm sick and tired of Windows screwing up my life. Lol.

Codename: - ?

Build Country: - Refurbished product, location unknown.

Build Year: - Your Mac was built in 2010.

Build Week - Your Mac was built in week 6 of that year (February).

Production Nr.: - Your Mac was number 444 to be built that week.

I couldnt wait for Arrandale, so I bought a new mbp NOW THREAD!!

Ok so I couldnt wait, so I bought a 13" uMBP 2.53GHz and stuck an intel SSD in it.

I decided to keep it and if Arrandale comes out then so be it! I'll just decide what to do then. In the meanwhile, I'm enjoying the hell out of this little machine!
