I think I've had it with waiting. 2 kids and a wife sharing a mini and 24" iMac. Been waiting since the holidays for the new MBPs. Most likely pulling the trigger on the 13" MBP by the weekend. Can get it at the Apple store for $1127. Plus I have a $100 gift card. $1027 new out the door in NH. If the new ones are released within 14 days, will get the price protection from Apple.

I caved...

I found this site a couple months ago, and have been eagerly anticipating the new Macbook pro refresh. It motivated me to sell my 2008 2.4 ghz 15" mbp on craigslist, and went to using my ancient Dell Dimension 4550 desktop temporarily.

I just couldn't wait any longer, and ended up caving this week and got a good deal on a brand new 2.8 ghz Unibody MBP 15" on craigslist.

It seems that the refresh is imminent, but I'm enjoying my new MBP!

Haha! Yep. Got the same idea. I'm selling my Sony Vaio, right now. Headed to a MBP.

Curious to see if/when the updated Pro's come out, how much Apple will be selling the previous version, both new and refurbished.

Regardless.. I see the light.

i still haven opened the box

Hey every one ;) I just was handed my first ever mac today by the IT guy at work :D (we get a discount through our company @ CDW for personal computers).

I am crazy geeked but waiting till i make it home and my son goes to sleep before i open the box. (its VERY hard waiting).

I was a die hard HP person and each of the three HP's i owned lasted 5 years each with no problems (soild built computers i think).

Also i felt windows XP was darn stable and didnt have too many issues with it. I use XP at work and no problems either.

why did i switch?:apple:
well got a 1 year old at home and time is a precious commodity and heard macs "just work", "fast boot time", "no defrag, no updates each week, no scanning for viruses, no updating virus software each day". and with that kid i want to do movies of him, pictures, The iWeb thing looks sweet for keeping family up on my sons accomplishments :p
i just dont want to fuss with the computer i just want to get up and go.

why didnt i wait for the new macbook coming out?
well i waited 3 weeks already and nothing plus well i coming from a 5 year old laptop that was a "bargain" laptop when i purchased it, so speed isnt an issue. Im really not going to do more than the average computer stuff, the most intensive will be the home movies.

I am so geeked its crazy :D

anyone know a good repalcement program for MS Money? i found SEE financial is good?

update:
mac up and running this is so awesome, it looks like form the serial number its a W8 2010 week 9 machine :)
there is a learning curve and PC habits are showing, i guess with regular use it will get better.

I had bought a 13" MBP last September, the low end one. It worked fine all these months but sometimes it would stutter with video with only 2GB shared.

I sold it this morning and went to BestBuy and got a 15". I figured it was better to get the 15" and have 4GB ram and better speakers than to just upgrade the ram on the 13". I'm loving the bigger screen size!

I don't care if new ones may be out soon, I haven't kept any of my Macs for more than 1.5 years anyways.

CPU speed: 2.53GHz
Family name: A1286
Screen size: 15 inch
Colour: Aluminium
Memory - number of slots: 2
Factory: W8 (Shanghai China)
Production year: 2010
Production week: 07 (February)
Production number: 3182 (within this week)

Well, after following the forum for a few weeks now I finally broke down and went to Best Buy. Coming from an HP dv6445 to my first Mac ever, and so far I'm loving it. The simple build quality still has me smiling.

If the new MBP's come out in the next two weeks, I'll return this (13" MBP) and get it, but if the refresh comes after that... I'll have no regrets, I'm not going to spend my life always waiting for what will come, just enjoy what life gives me at the time.

Happy Birthday :)

I've been a long time mac desktop user, so my husband decided to get me a 13" MBP 2.53 for my birthday, I am loving it. Perhaps my favorite piece so far was picking out a case =D

Just got the 13" uMBP and its so sweet!

I just got the 13" uMBP 2.53GHz model and this thing is so sweet!

And this is actually coming from someone who had a 17" 2.8GHz antiglare uMBP!

Sometimes downgrading is the ultimate upgrade!

Now I can run around campus all day without feeling like my ankles are going to break!

Also, I have to say the screen looks so vivid! I'm blown away.

I have the 9CBD screen if that means anything. :D

Congratulations!
Enjoy your new MBP and don't listen to any naysayers

Make sure you have a backup strategy :)

Thanks!

Man the 13" is so much nicer than the 17" (portability wise).

I feel like I can use the 13" in any possible condition, whether on the couch, laying in bed, and even while walking!

Man have I been missing out! LOL.

So do you actually prefer the glossy screen?

I actually dont mind the glossy screen. When using in full brightness it does make the colors "pop" and look very vibrant.

My only minor gripe is that if you use it with low brightness its highly reflective.

But I'm not too picky.

how do you find out what screen you have? and which one is the best?

Just go to system preferences/display/color then make sure the display profile "color lcd" is highlighted and click on "open profile."

Scroll down to the last #14 row and and select it/click on it.

Look under "model"

Model: 00009CBD

It should look like this.

As for which screens are good, so far I'm starting to think that this model 00009CBD I received is the good one.

I mean I'm coming from a ati-glare 17" hi resolution display and this 13" screen is just as impressive.

As in antiglare or glossy? I'd go and check them out for yourself. I know people who use the software you noted with both glossy and anti-glare screens (although they use separate screens/workstations for work at home).

After almost 6 wonderful years...

After almost 6 years with my 12" PB G4, I finally took the update plunge with a refurb 2.53 13" MBP. As sad as I am to leave the little wonder behind, this new intel machine sure is shiny and fast.

I purchased a 2.53GHz 15" MBP from the refurb store a few days ago. I was waiting for the new models, but I really don't need the extra power. The $1489 price tag thus made it that much easier to make the purchase (extra $40 for antiglare).
