Why would you buy one right now? why would anyone. I have been sitting on 2k for about a month now. They are going to release the updated version asap. Arrandale + Better GPU + possible USB 3.0 + More

Because the best time to buy a computer is when you need it. Unfortunately with Apple, you're stuck with the one and only offering (unless you go refurbished).

Unfortunately for Apple, some Windows laptops have seen these features stream through threatening people to leave OS X for something like the Sony Vaio Z computers.

I got tired of waiting and pulled the trigger today. Been waiting since December (not really expecting an update until late jan/feb). I would've really liked to see an IPS panel and an i7 option and I am really only expecting the IPS panel to happen as them leaving the i7 out gives them a processor option for the following update as it theoretically is due before the next refresh of Intel procs and the quads aren't suitable for an apple laptop.

Update Euphoria Causes Rash Increase of Old Tech MBP Sales ~ A Drunken Bards Tale

Those are all really nice computers and all but gees the new ones are on the way guys/gals...? Did you absolutely need to have a higher end Mac laptop today?

I was in my local Best Buy today and they had 1 top of the line 17" left. I had it in box/hand and was at the check out ready to say screw it I'm buying now with that big ol' I'm getting a sweet sexy new :apple: grin on my face. These adrenaline filled emotions also stemmed from the confidence I had knowing that if I have to bite a return for the latest and greatest I have more backup return protection than usual being a Best Buy Silver Elite Reward Zone member. This was the one and only reason I was about to buy my first of many Apple products from Best Buy.

But then it hit me like an apple from a tree I say John boy! I realized it was the no damn update yet shakes getting to me and that I did not actually need this amazing Apple laptop right now - right there today! And that if I did buy it and not really need it I'd be letting the mothersh:apple:p think it was OK to string it's loyal dollar shelling customers out for so long on an update. I just wanted it sooooo bad because of the looming updates that have yet to happen. But I suddenly got Zen with it and put the box down and looked the (super hot by the way I know not so Zen but damn she was fine) young cashier in the eye and said "thanks but I've changed my mind I won't be buying this after all" and walked out the door.

I guess the rambling point I'm trying to share (not make) is that I feel at the end of the day that even though the current MBP are indeed amazing and beautiful machines and will be for many for some years to come...and even though I knew I'd be like a kid in a candy store for a week or two setting it all up and tweaking it out and dropping jaw over the stunning LED screen and how well it still plays most games even though I don't really game on a laptop ever...deep down I'd know that the new models my cousin, my brother, my buddy's on Mac Rumors, my enemy's  on Mac Rumors will all be so much truly happier that they - we - held out just a bit longer and will be blown away with their, our, newest of new Macbook Pros that absolutely trounce the current generation for years to come.

Yes indeed these new models are coming and they are coming in only weeks if not a week now. They are coming and they are far superior in so many ways. Pacify yourself with 10% restocking fee's all you want but at the end of the day those are hard bills to burn upon return day, even harder with your head between your tail hoping to get the new Macbook Pro you knew was ready and waiting in the first place... telling yourself "$250 is not that bad to return this one and get the best".

New technology is always going to come out. Something better and better. Look up moore's law if you are not convinced.

Honestly, it's not worth it waiting and waiting. If you need a new computer, just buy it. Throw in an intel ssd and some ram and your set for another 3 years.

However, for those of you who want to wait for the update, I got the release date of the new macbooks. They will be released 1-2 weeks AFTER you buy your new mac ;)

I am trying to wait but ready to bite and order today! I sold my early 2008 MacBook Pro 3 weeks ago and this waiting is getting old. Every Tuesday comes and goes and nothing new. Now I am tempted to order and hope at least something happens in 2 weeks can update for free?

I pulled the switch and bought the mid-range 15" MBP (4GB DDR3 RAM, 256MB 9600). I installed a 64GB SSD and am perfectly happy with it. Aside from a disappointing resolution (15" 1440x900 does not look quite as good as my old 14" Asus with 1440x900). I had been running my Asus laptop hackintosh for a couple of years and decided to go legit. Finally I came into some money and decided to go with it at the local Apple store (UTC in San Diego).

This is the single biggest reason I'm waiting. In all honesty, the current MBPs have plenty of power. Such a nice computer otherwise though -- I'm sure you'll love it.

I just picked up my macbook pro on wednesday and love it. Says it was built week 5 2010, nice to know its pretty fresh :) Oh yeah, this is my first mac, came from a PC...long story short I was sick of watching my GF NEVER have any issues with her 1 year old macbook while I struggled with my slow, but almost identical PC notebook.

So far after 2 days, this thing is AWESOME!!

It's unfortunate timing buying a Macbook Pro these days because it has been a long time since the last update, and they might be updated soon.

- If you have no urgent need, but still buy one know; it's insanity (regarding specs).

- If you absolutely need a new one; it's just plain freaking unfortunate timing.

Who cares? They are perfectly good computers. Everything is going to be outdated sooner than later.

Come to think about it... You're getting older every second of your life. Yet somehow I'm not seeing people writing about it ten times per day and losing sleep over it. Come on, live your life, use and enjoy what you have and don't obsess too much over hardware specs.

If I can possibly have the new fries rather than eat the soggy old ones I know which i would prefer.

If you are buying a new computer, it is new — probably was physically built just a couple weeks ago, even though model range was introduced in last year. So it's not a soggy one by any means.

The question is, would a brand new computer make you better/efficient in whatever you're doing on it? Or it is one of those "I just want it so bad for no particular reason" kind of things? ;)

That's weird. I got mine on February 15 and here's info:

Model: - MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) (CTO)
Codename: - ?
Build Country: - Your Mac was built in Changhai, China.
Build Year: - Your Mac was built in 2010.
Build Week - Your Mac was built in week 7 of that year (February).
Production Nr.: - Your Mac was number 527 to be built that week.

Probably because it was CTO.

Leon, I see you have a iMac 27" C2D. I am looking at the iMac 27" C2D or the iMac 27" i5 or i7. Just a casual user, office user and photo buff but not sure if the latter is worth the additional price. any suggestions, how's yours...is screen too big? thanks
This will be my first mac...
Anyone else feel free to chime in with their 2 cents...

I use my 24" C2D for almost exactly the same thing as you do. For your needs a Quad Core would be overkill however it would insure that you have head room if your needs change in the future. Applications that tend to use lot's of computing cycles are video production, 3D Graphics like gaming, CAD/CAM, 3D renderings and music production. Unless you have any plans for those things save your money and get a C2D machine and ignore those that say you have to have the latest and greatest.

As for the 27" display they're really nice and provide higher resolution than my 24" and if you have the need can be used for an external display.

Because this will be your first Mac I'm going to assume you are migrating from a Windows machine. I would recommend going through these Apple pages, lot's of useful information!!!
