Still would have made sense to wait a week or two to get more for your money though...

Except that moving to a new architecture also carries certain risks and headaches, which should be accounted for in one's estimation of "value". Not saying the update is guaranteed to crap out, but a proven platform is worth something even in the fast-paced world of computer hardware. People who don't need the increased capabilities may be weighing this factor into their decisions. I know I am (though I'm still not sure which route i'll go)

Then you could have the old model for cheaper. There isn't a rule that says first revisions have problems.

How does that work? Do they sell them on the clearance section of the site or what? I wouldn't want a refurb one, but a "mint in box" MBP w/ current specs and lower price would be appealing.

I've had my 13" macbook pro (2.26 core 2, 2gb ddr3 ram, 160gb hdd, 9400m) since October and I can't put it down! It's the first computer that I truly enjoyed using. Not only is it blazing fast (super fast start up and shut down, something that I definitely never experienced in the windows world), quiet, and cool, this thing looks and feels sexy. The aluminum unibody macbooks are without a doubt the best constructed laptops out there. They actually feel solid, unlike 99% of the junk out there. Keyboard is extremely fluid. Display is very vibrant. Hinge is surprisingly smooth and I like how it closes almost magnetically. Magsafe adapter is awesome. Slot loading dvd drive is welcome change from the flimsy trays on other laptops. Battery life is fantastic. The black/aluminum contrast looks REALLY stylish and I love how it doesn't show fingerprints, scratches and annoying reflections. And I love, love, LOVE the huge multitouch trackpad. I thought that would be annoying at first, but after getting used to the space and all the multitouch gestures, it's really hard to go back to the ancient mouse pads on other laptops. And the texture is perfect; not too smooth, but not glossy like HP either. Apple is way ahead of the curve here.

I'm really happy with my purchase. At first I thought 2gb wouldn't be enough, but so far it has been plenty for my needs (browsing, email, music, videos). I don't plan to upgrade. I do plan to upgrade the hdd eventually, to a intel ssd, once it's cheap enough. I can't imagine how fast everything will be then. So long as everything continues to work like it is now, I can see myself using this laptop for many years.

New and first time owner of a 13 MBP! I'm a Windows user/developer for 15 long years and with the release of Vista was my wake up call.

My wife surprised me with the MBP at Christmas, but not simply giving me the gift, but sending me on a scavenger hunt of clue cards. In the back of each one of these little clue cards were the letters S, A, G, W and A. We live in Korea and the word for Apple is sagwa. Once I got all the clues, I had to unscramble the letters and that was when she reveled the MBP reward. It was a very difficult task for her to keep this surprise for me, because for the past 4 months before Christmas, with every Windows frustration I encountered, I was merely seconds from marching out the house and into an Apple store. I demanded a piece of mind that I only knew Apple could provide.

Now it has been a little over a month and I can't explain how extremely pleasant I feel about owning one. Apple never ceases to amaze me and I keep finding new useful ways my MBP has kept my insanity. How it made my life easier. Amazing to see how this Mac, "just works". I don't have to explain it to you all, you all already know. I just want to share my experience in getting it at Christmas and how much it makes my life better.

Thanks and I hope to get more use out of this forum.

I just got a new 13" 2.53 MBP and I love it :D

I had been using an Asus laptop with Windows XP for a few years and decided I wanted a smaller laptop to travel with easily. I was planning on making the switch to Mac in the future and figured this was the perfect opportunity

This is the first Mac I've had since the Quadra days...needless to say I'm impressed by how far Mac OS has come! Looking forward to discovering all the little tweaks and settings I can customize :D

My early 2008 2.4 MBP has been in service for almost a month so far and chances of getting it repaired are sort of slim...

So I ordered 13" 2.26 GHz MPB literally a couple of minutes ago.

Yes, Arrandale is coming rather soonish but I figured I have bigger things to worry about in my life than this. It will sure will be a great machine and far better than what I've been using for previous month as replacement.

Edit: oh yeah and if Apple releases something in next 14 days, I can exchange it for new model. If not, whatever really.

New 15" Mac Pro

I've been looking at upgrading to a new iMac or a MacBook Pro since the beginning of this year. All the news and rumors about the new Macbook's had me spending countless hours reading this forum. It was fun for awhile but today I lost interest. I signed up at Apple with refurb-tracker.com and within 15 minutes found a 15" 2009 Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo ($1,449.00 USD); 4GM/250GB. I saved a couple hundred bucks and now I look forward to going back to my life. In a few years, I'm sure I'll return to read about the next latest and greatest. Until then, thanks for all the insights.
Enjoy your Mac!

Ha, the last time I posted was Feb 27, 2008... after the last Feb refresh to the MBP line. Anyway, I sold that MBP to someone on Craigslist and was going to upgrade with the new refresh. I had planned on waiting, but decided not to.

I could only afford the $1999 model if I were to buy the refresh, but luckily came across someone selling a current 2.8GHz MBP for only $1800, brand spanking new. Checked with Apple, everything is legit and it was sealed. Even if I were to wait, the bump from the (new) mid-range model would probably be close to the current high-end model, it's just that this way I'm saving a couple hundred dollars this way. I only thing I'd probably miss is a res upgrade, but I'll live.

I'm happy with my purchase and I think the next refresh in 2011 is the one to watch! Had fun lurking for the past week though, and of course, stressing out!

Props to Apple's shipping/customer service, I recently ordered an MBP that I needed asap for school, since I was spending so much I added the $23 overnight shipping. When I got the confirmation e-mail, I noticed it said expected to ship within 5-9 days. I called customer service seeing as overnight shipping shouldn't take a week, the rep explained that it takes 5-9 days to process without shipping. She said she would waive the charge for overnight. Sure enough a few hours later I got a tracking number and it was at my door less than 24 hours later.

Congratulations on your lucky shipment. I also ordered a new 15 $1999 MBP for work last week and I just paid standard shipping. The FedEX says it will be delivered on Tuesday. However, they always give me surprises a day earlier. So I hope it would be here on Monday (Yes, they deliver on President's Day). Keep my fingers crossed

So with everybody selling their MacBook Pro Unibodies to make way for the i? models, I thought it would be the perfect time to finally buy a high end MBP. Looked around & eventually found a late 2009 uMBP 2.8 on eBay for a good price & bought it! Should arrive tomorrow, would be funny if the new models are released tomorrow too.

I have to admit, I'm jealous. I've been waiting for the i5/7 MacBook Pros for... months now, but it's especially getting tiresome now that it's mid February and still no MacBook Pro updates... I'm hoping and praying for one tomorrow so I can go out and buy one!

Just curious though, what makes you want to buy a MacBook Pro right now when there should be updates very, very shortly?

Because there a allot of people selling to make way for the update, & I don't really need an i7. A 2.8 C2D & 512MB VRAM will do everything I need for a good few years, so why not grab one for a good price? Plus I'm willing to bet to get one of the new models that out-specs the 2.8 C2D, you would have to spend allot more.

Hopefully my 15" 2.8 will also arrive today! I'll be sure to post some pics when if it does come today.

I've been using this machine for the past couple of hours, and all I can say is that I'm impressed so far. As a Windows user for the past I don't know... my whole life, it's definitely refreshing to use something different and seemingly (much) more efficient than Windows.

That said, I'm still going to slot Windows 7 in here for comfort zone purposes :p
