I got my 15" i7 with Hi Res Glossy today. It was definitely worth the extra $90(edu discount). I haven't tested it too hard yet but it's ran pretty cool. It seemed to heat up a bit playing MLB TV at full screen on high quality but still not as hot as my "high end" Dell laptop. This is my first Mac and third laptop in 4 years. The other 2 were Dells and had hardware issues from overheating most likely. Based on today I don't plan on switching back to PC!
I just got mine today. Same config as you. I'm coming from the mid-2007 with 2.4 GHz.
First impressions: love the new keyboard and trackpad. Gestural controls on the trackpad is awfully nice. Network speeds seem nice and fast. The hi-res display does not have as small of text as I was afraid of... it's actually perfect. Feels very fast. I haven't installed a lot of software yet but I'll let you know how it handles Second Life.

I just picked up mine from the FedEx place near my house. I am loving this machine. It is working so smoothly. This is a beast!
Sweet, You ordered the same as me, and coming off close to the same. I had an early 08 2.4GHz. Sold it on Craigslist.

Just got my MBP today, BTO 15" (specs in signature below)... I must say, after frequenting these boards for the better part of 5 months, I am TOTALLY stoked at this 'puter. I even got it one day ahead of the scheduled FedEx delivery date.
It's blazing fast, crystal clear, and truly a pleasure to work on. We'll see how my 256 SSD holds up over the course of the next few months (I pulled the trigger on a LaCie 1TB FW800 external, too, so hopefully if I'm refreshing from Time Machine it'll be fairly painless...)

The resolution is quite fine, though I can see where those who do a lot of work on theirs would want some more real-estate. It's perfect for me.
The biggest joy has to be the trackpad, hands down. I have a magic mouse for my iMac and while I really like it, it doesn't stand a chance against the trackpad.
Anyways, loving it so far.

I'm wondering the same thing. Any of these refurbs will run Photoshop just fine.
I went to the Apple store today looked at a 17" i7. Fully loaded out the door at $3,700 inc. warranty & the Apple One on One. Makes these refurbs look even nicer...
Reading this I decided to do the same - the apps opened really fast - safari pages not downloading as fast as I expected - not sure where to check to see if this is a broadband speed issue - or a settings issue. Any thoughts?
