MAC Book Pro 17

Ordered my new MAC Book Pro 17inch with the I7 Chip glossy screen yesterday. MBP has just left SHANGHAI CN and heading to the states EST arrival May 18. Have a new Hitachi 500GB 7200 drive and a 8GB upgrade kit waiting for its arrival.

Looking at the MCE OptiBay to use for the 500GB and then use a 80GB Intel SSD as the boot drive.

I've had my MacBook Pro for 3 days now, and just installed 8 gb RAM, and let me tell you it really does make a difference - now I just need to get my SSD firmware updated and installed!

I really love the 2010 MBP compared to the 2007 MB, it's a huge step in performance even though I easily feel the lack of a SSD! Only disappointment is the speakers, they are actually worse than the MB's....

My new MBP i7 is just 4 days old and I have a couple observations for ya,

1. I installed the 12.5mm 1TB Western Digital HD without incident
2. The trackpad click is way too loud!! Underneath the battery there is a torx screw that adjusts the click noise. I tried adjusting it and it did reduce the click noise but it also made the button less responsive.
3. When I first got it I noticed that it wouldn't sit evenly on its four rubber feet. I literally had to bend the whole computer! now it sits nice and even.
4. I have yet to have the fans turn on!! even after watching AVCHD movies, installing Windows 7 on Parallels, running parallels and lots of web browsing. I haven't even noticed it getting warm. love it!
5. Toast video player plays my AVCHD movies! they wouldn't play on my old Core Duo 2GHZ!

Finally!

My new MacBook Pro has finally arrived!

Here's how it happened for those who are curious (like I was throughout) and happen to live in the province of Quebec, Canada. I'm in the city of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada.

Notice how it spent more than 2 days in Kentucky and a full day in Ontario. Also, it went straight from Lachine at 6:45 AM to "delivered" in Trois-Rivieres by 5 PM. No "delivery scan" or "out for delivery" in Trois-Rivieres, so I spent the whole morning today wondering if I should ask my dad to house sit for me while I was at work or realistically wait until tomorrow. Good thing I trusted the date of delivery. UPS's tracking system still really sucks, though.

By the way, the reason my Mac was delivered from China is that it was custom-built, here are my specs:

MBP 15.4/2.4/CTO

I love the backpack and the stand. They're both amazing and I highly recommend them. I'm still at work and I can't wait to get home and unwrap this new Mac. It will replace my June 2009 base 13-inch MacBook Pro, which I'm selling (I don't know where yet). I can't say I'm not worried about dead pixels on the new one, though, I don't want to wait a month to exchange it...

so picked up my FIRST EVER Mac computer :D:D:D:D:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

15 inch i5, base model, Macbook Pro

And now im lost, its so confusing to get used to it...i was suggested to get one on one for $100 but im too broke at the moment

any guides you guys can point me to?? thanks. It looks soooo amazing, but i want to fully use all its capabilities, so yea any help

Well,

My new Mac turned up last week - its my first Mac and it's really a great experience. Now the debate I had with myself when ordering was glossy vs Antiglare (of course!). The Resolution choice was a no brainer (high res for me and for anyone as you can increase text sizes if need be).

I ended up getting antiglare after cancelling my original order of glossy - so pleased I did as its just a much more usable screen, and it looks really good and in all lighting situations. I have compared side to side with work mates who have the glossy and its just obvious which one is better (antiglare hi res).

I was originally concerned about the black trim (or lack of). Like a lot of people say not an issue, the silver boarder looks really good when you are using it. Also IMO the silver looks more professional, and like someone else said, less like a shiny toy (which looks beautiful I must say).

So.. If you want to use you MBP in different lighting conditions and concentrate on what you are doing on your screen (rather than whats sneaking up behind you), then go for antiglare (plus you get hi res, which is so much a bonus and I dont care what other people say about that one!!).

Also - its just an i5 2.4GHz, 4GB, 320GB HD. Seems to kick arse definitely over my work windows machine which has 4 physical cores! Must be Max OS ;)

Virtualisation also works nicely (virtualbox with Win7 as I need a couple of old win apps still). I mean it just works and is very snappy.

Battery life - make sure you turn off video on Skype (yes really) to make sure the non integrated GPU doesn't kick in. I suspect I will get 5-6 hours when just doing some coding, web surfing - but I haven't done any exensive testing yet.

My first thoughts..

both screens are hi res. the difarente is only antiglare or glosy
until now I used alwayes the antiglare I am going to order the glosy one, I saw both at the Apple store find out I like the glosy

The MBP in my sig just shipped from China with 2-3 Day delivery.

Estimated delivery date: May 18th, 2010 by 10:30 AM

I hate weekends :(

Finally arrived in Canberra

I just received my new MacBook Pro 15inch 2.53Ghz 500Gb Hi Res Glossy....

So far very impressed with the machine

- smooth
- great construction
- works straight out of the box (even at the shopping centre! - couldn't wait)
- lovely clear screen (no problems with reflection in normal lighting so far)
- seems to cope with all actions thrown at it so far
- just need to get used to the large track pad and using the right combo of fingers

Had to wait for 3 weeks and a few days (CTO) and hassle the shop (JBHIFI) a lot.
Wish it had come sooner but a great outcome

MacCanberra:eek:

About to go and buy my i7 15" MBP with Hi Res AG Screen :)

This is to replace my 2.33 C2D which is pretty badly beaten up following a strap snapping on my laptop bag

I'll post pictures of the old one and you can shed a tear along with me, it works fine apart from the firewire port which makes me think the Logic Board is on the way out, although this issue doesn't seem uncommon I'm sure applecare won't cover it due to the cosmetic damage it's sustained - believe me though, I'm certain the issues are unrelated

Left FedEx location in Anchorage...haha sorry for the incessant updates but this waiting game is torture!

Had the exact same update to mine. Then this morning I receive a call from fedex asking for directions to were I live. Said I would have it before noon today. Not bad at all. I ordered the (custom) mbp in my signature on the 10th and its built and delivered by the 14th. I did get the expedited 2-3 day shipping on it. Anyway best of luck to everyone else who is waiting.

Just got my new i7 Macbook Pro with High Res Display :D

Starting to transfer files over from my old MBP now :)

Noooooo! They tried to deliver today but no one was home because I wasn't expecting it until next week. Oh well, I'll just drive down to the Fedex place and pick it up later tonight.

When is the last FedEx flight out of China on Friday?

My MBP activity reads as follows:

May 14, 2010 2:44am Shipment information sent to FedEx
May 14, 2010 3:48am Picked up Pkg received after FedEx cutoff
May 14, 2010 3:49am Left FedEx origin facility

Is there a flight that leaves today? My last MBP didn't get the above until late Friday so it sat in China all weekend. I am hoping that this one does not share the same fate and that there is a flight that this one gets on so I get it sooner. Anyone know if it should leave today, before FedEx shuts down for the weekend in China? Is my MBP already on a flight out of China? Or is it waiting to get picked up? I can't remember what "Left FedEx origin facility" actually means.

If it was on a flight it would say in transit. Since yours just says left the origin facility, I would think that it's going to be sitting in China all weekend. =/

FedEx flies 24/6 getting out of China is no problem. It's also important to know that your mac is in the hands of FedEx Intermational. They do not update their tracking status as timely as FedEx USA. The only potential delay we face is clearing customs, once in awhile they do a comprehensive security check of all pallets on a given ship. That dealay usually lasts six to eight days depending on their workload.

Woohoo, set it up and I'm using it now! Copying all my files from my external drive.

I connected my Logitech G7 mouse and it works fine, but when I press the side button it doesn't go back like it did on Windows. Where can I change this setting?

I can't answer your question as I don't use a mouse. On that note, I might suggest you give the trackpad a try. Even if you only use it as secondary to the mouse. I find the trackpad extremely versatile and fun to use. It only takes a few days to learn the various gestures and another couple of days to make it feel "normal". Now when I use my other laptops their trackpads feel dead and very limited. I give Apple a lot of credit for what they have done with this latest no button glass trackpad. I really enjoy it.

Using the trackpad is super annoying there because the MBP is off to the side connected to an external monitor which is directly in front of me, so I'd prefer to use my mouse even though the gestures are nice

Been trying to get onto the tracking page today, but it's down for some reason with this message:

Any ideas what's going on?
