In the last 12 months Apple have won me over in so many ways - thanks Steve for making a "ding" in my world.....!

I ordered mine on the 21st, was shipped on the 25th as well. I don't know why it takes so flippin long to ship to the UK, we suck at everything haha. Mine just says shipped on the order status page. Other than that, no news at all.

Bought the base model 13" today at the Apple Store. I just wanted something to replace my school laptop that is finally dying/breaking.

First mac and its been an interesting day of usage. Compared to the SZ, which was basically the same price, I have to ask myself why I didnt do it early. Dont get me wrong, I love my SZ but this MBP is a lot better, especially the screen (Sony has a great one too, but wow) and battery life...basically almost double, if not tripled.

Based on my wife's persuasion, I jumped ship from Windows/PC to Apple last night. We utilized wifey's education discount and purchased a 15" MBP (see signature for specs) along with a Cannon all-in-one wireless printer (with $100 rebate) and 160-gb iPod Classic (with $199 rebate). I feel I made out well...

The only Apple products I've previously owned have been the original iPhone and the original iPod. I've never had an issue with either device, until they ended their respective life-cycles sometime last week. I was impressed with the build quality and durability of these Apple products. This experience seems to be the reason why I entertained the idea of switching to Apple.

I'm also looking forward the less required maintenance and superior OS.

Any must have peripherals???

I have my MBP attached to an apple Cinema display (24in) with a wired key board (I like the number pad on the right hand side-the wireless keyboard did not have this option when I bought this set up 2 years ago). and I just got a Magic Mouse. I use my MBP at home hooked up to this and then disconnect when I go traveling. My new MBP just arrived this past week and I sold my 2 yr old 15MBP.

I picked up my 13" from Microcenter on Wednesday. I absolutely love it! I've had to install Windows 7 for school via Bootcamp (Visual C++), but I'm happy to keep it out of sight most of the time.

I tried for a long time to convince myself to spend less on a PC, but the quality makes the MBP so worth it.

Woo, mine got shipped today with an ETA of Sept 1st [subject to change] :D

Same here, Sep 1st. Now it's "In transit" from Shanghai. However, it's possible that it will arrive sooner than that. I bought an iPod touch together with MBP. It was delivered one day earlier than the estimate from FedEx!!

Getting to knooow you!!!

I picked up my MacBook Pro a couple of weeks ago. I decided to make the switch from WXP since I know good ol' MS would fiddle around with the W7 just enough to frustrate the heck out of me.

So instead of setting myself up for all those annoying expectations I thought now would be the time to finally go Apple :D

Classes at our local shop don't start until next month so I've been acquainting myself slowly....making the mistake of still expecting it to be like WXP. I even posted about being disappointed with Mail and thanks to some wonderful posters here am now seeing it is more then I'd thought it was.

I REALLY like the cleanness of the hardware....no stupid stickers all over the keyboard area and none on the bottom. Apple had the kindness to actually put the SN on the OS, wow:D

I like that the power cord can be used in different lengths....and that it's magnitized.....little things like that go a long way with me. And the Apple logo on the lid is lit up....how neat is that!!!

I do wonder, is Steve Jobs left handed?...I ask because the options to dismiss/diminish/increase a page are on the upper left hand corner. That's been fun getting used to.

I also like that the arrows to scroll up and down a page are both at the bottom, how commonsense is that!! I am having trouble getting keyboard shortcuts to work...I'll do a search on that.

So that's about it for my big announcement that I've finally had the courage to go Apple or should I say Mac? I do appreciate this forum. I had used Worldstart so was very happy to find all you good folks. I look forward to a long and fun relationship.

Anna

Yeah, hopefully they arrive before the ETA :D

Holy crap, mine's in Omaha now (a city that's only about an hour away from me)! Last time that happened, it was delivered the same day!

... except it's the weekend. Doh! If it's delivered Monday, though, that'll still be two days early! :D

Just bought my first Mac

So, I just purchased my first Mac. I bought the MBP 13 3rd Gen with the Intel Core 2 Duo. First impression: I am blown away to say the least! I will admit, I was very anti-mac before a few days ago. Now, I cannot see the day where I will ever go back to a PC. We use PC's at work and they just seem so lame and cheap. I love all the "short cut" type features like the gestures on the mouse pad and the "Dashboard" screen. The battery is phenomenal also. It will last me almost all day with medium use. I also just installed VM Ware Fusion I think it is with Windows 7 for my work programs. This machine is truly amazing....

Anyhow,

What is some cool software to install on my Mac, some "Must Haves" and are there any tips or tricks that I should know about to make my Mac experience more enjoyable?

Thanks all, any info is greatly appreciated.

heyy
how have you got the tracking status of your MBP?:(

After it shipped on apples website, a "Track this shipment" button appeared:

When you click that, it takes you to a place with your order number, and a tracking number. Take that tracking number to the UPS website, and enter it there, and youll be able to track it.

BTO is built to order. so any added hi-res screens, 7200 hard drive, or other custom options. I guess they would take longer.

Mine still just says "Shipment Dispatched"... theres no tracking number or courier details yet... urgh, I am so impatient!
